Chapter 103 - Chapter 103: Full Assault

"Hulk seems even stronger."

Corin felt sympathy at this moment for the Leviathan that had almost flipped end over end on the spot.

Compared to having its brains splattered everywhere, Corin thought being frozen solid and then smashed to pieces was a much cleaner way to go.

The Leviathan's head experienced the same effect as smashing into a wall in front of the Hulk, while the rest of its body curled back under the force of inertia.

"Hang in there!"

Seeing the Hulk pushed back several meters by the Leviathan's massive momentum, Tony reacted quickly. Taking advantage of the moment when its body flipped over, he fired a missile straight at the weak point where the spine connected.

BOOM!

Trailing a long plume of smoke and fire, the missile detonated the instant it collided with the Leviathan's body.

Fragments filled the sky, whistling as they shot in all directions.

The explosion was very close to everyone. Although the fragments were far less lethal than shrapnel, they were still mixed with metal.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Nearby vehicles were battered by the fragments, left riddled with damage and scrapped on the spot.

Ordinary people like Barton and Natasha couldn't withstand this kind of splash damage at all.

Clint immediately took cover behind a taxi.

Natasha's position, however, was a bit awkward. Aside from Captain Rogers beside her, there was nothing else to shield her.

But the shield in Captain America's hand was sturdier than a car. It was the perfect tool for the job.

At the moment before the blast flared, Colonel Rogers raised his shield, blocking both himself and Agent Natasha behind it.

Flames swallowed everyone's view.

Behind the shield, Agent Romanoff's hair looked vividly red, yet not a single strand was scorched.

When the thick smoke cleared, the massive head had separated from the body and slid down onto a taxi beneath the overpass.

It looked exactly like a scene where a general was cut down and fell from his horse.

This sight enraged the continuously descending Chitauri soldiers. One by one, they tore off their metal masks, revealing skull-like faces, and roared at the group.

"ROAR!"

When it came to volume, the Hulk had never conceded to anyone.

Tiny alien ants daring to show off their muscles in front of the Hulk?

Faced with the enemy's provocation, the Hulk's response was simple.

Roar back.

Sure enough, the Hulk's roar echoed repeatedly between the skyscrapers, tormenting everyone's eardrums. The Chitauri soldiers immediately lost any desire to compete with him in a shouting match.

The alien squad lost another round.

At this moment, enemies surrounded the group from all directions.

After firing his missile, Iron Man Tony Stark slowly landed between the Hulk and Captain Rogers. On his display, JARVIS rapidly scanned the enemies' data.

Thor weighed Mjolnir in his hand, his face full of fighting spirit.

Hawkeye Clint Barton drew his compound bow to full tension, explosive arrows ready at all times.

Black Widow Natasha Romanoff swapped in a fresh magazine, racked the slide, and chambered a round.

Captain America Steve Rogers tightened his grip on the shield, his sharp eyes constantly sweeping over the enemies.

After roaring, the Hulk sniffed and looked at the group of little ants in front of him, disdain shining in his eyes.

At this moment, the six Avengers stood back to back, united against the enemy, forming a circular formation.

Facing the growing number of enemies, the Avengers' gazes were sharp, fully prepared. Something called unity quietly took shape.

In stark contrast to the Avengers' shared sense of purpose was Corin. There wasn't the slightest hint of tension from being in the middle of a war on him. He squinted slightly, raised his head a bit, and his expression froze—

"Achoo!"

From the bottom of his heart, Corin didn't want to ruin the Avengers' rare moment of unity. After all, this could be considered a classic scene.

But the pungent smell brought by the thick smoke made him unable to hold back a sneeze.

"Strange. I've got a demi-god body now, so why am I still sneezing?"

No one knew.

A burst of cold air, misting white, brushed past Barton's and Thor's ears and blew toward a car engulfed in flames ahead.

Whoosh!

The nearly ten-meter-high flames were instantly extinguished, a wisp of blue smoke curling upward.

At the same time, a large patch of ice was left where the fire had been, sparkling as it reflected the sunlight.

Barton felt a sudden chill drift past his ear. He shrank his neck, glanced at the ice on the ground, then turned back to Corin, his tone full of disbelief.

"Mr. Destiny, is this the kind of catching a chill I'm thinking of?"

Noticing that Corin seemed a bit off, Thor also expressed concern.

"Brother, are you alright?"

Tony didn't even turn his head.

"Maybe worry about ourselves first?"

That's right. Standing at the very center of the Avengers' formation was Corin.

Right in the spotlight.

Corin couldn't figure out why everyone was standing in a circle around him, an outsider to the Avengers.

'Do they think I'm some weak rookie who needs protection?'

'Probably not…'

'Then does that mean I've become the core of the team?'

Corin was only half right.

After the earlier battle, regardless of what they said out loud, the Avengers had already acknowledged Corin's strength in their hearts.

At the same time, they had developed a certain level of trust in him.

The kind where you're willing to turn your back to someone.

Placing him at the center wasn't to protect him, nor was it outright recognition of him as the team's core. Rather, it was the idea of letting Corin anchor the formation that was at work.

After all, Corin's ability to handle almost any sudden situation gave the Avengers a strong sense of security.

If an encounter broke out now, everyone was counting on Corin to lend a hand at the critical moment.

"I'm fine. I didn't catch a chill. Thanks."

At this moment, the portal in the sky underwent a new change.

Loki looked down at the Avengers gathered below, especially that older brother with nothing but brute strength, and snorted as he issued an order.

"All units, attack!"

Upon receiving the command, the Chitauri army poured out of the portal like a flood, including several new Leviathans.

You had to know, a single Leviathan carried hundreds, even thousands, of enemies.

"Everyone, look!"

"Give the order, Captain."

Natasha realized that only Colonel Rogers, someone who had actually experienced real war, was suited to issue combat orders at this moment.

Captain America knew this wasn't the time to be modest and laid out the tactical plan briskly.

"Before we shut down the portal, we need to keep them occupied."

"Barton, get to the rooftops and figure out their movement routes."

"Stark, hold this position. Any enemy that gets close to these three streets, force them back. If they won't retreat, take them out."

After accepting his assignment, Barton looked over at Tony.

"Can you give me a lift?"

"Hang on tight."

Tony moved behind Barton, grabbed his belt, and with flames blasting from his feet, shot up into the air.

"Thor, you need to find a way to block the portal. Call down lightning and burn them to ashes!"

Captain Rogers continued assigning roles.

As the hammer swung, Thor's figure vanished into the distance in the blink of an eye.

"We have to keep the battlefield on the ground…"

"Hulk!"

At this moment, Captain America called out to the Hulk.

The Hulk immediately bent down and turned his head, offering a focused gaze. At this point, Banner clearly had much better control over his emotions after transforming.

"It's up to you!"

After a brief pause, Colonel Rogers didn't give the Hulk any specific combat orders. The Hulk's destructive power was already off the charts. As long as he was happy, that was enough.

It was clear that Colonel Rogers' on-the-spot arrangements were very on the spot.

The Hulk laughed heartily. His face, usually fierce with anger, looked unusually simple and honest now, revealing two rows of big white teeth.

Turning, he leapt up from the ground, landed on the wall of a skyscraper, and amid the continuous destruction of the building's structure, efficiently took down enemy after enemy.

"Destiny! Huh? Where did he go?"

When Rogers was about to assign Corin a combat task, Corin was already gone from his side.

In midair, a spark-filled donut vanished in the blink of an eye.

Nearby, Natasha stared in shock at the spot where Corin had disappeared.

She had just witnessed another of Corin's abilities, which seemed to be, 'Spatial travel?'

Through that hole just now, she thought she saw the rooftop of Stark Tower.

Even the Tesseract was right there.

"What just happened? Where did Destiny go?"

With only Agent Natasha left in front of him, Captain Rogers had no choice but to ask her.

"You absolutely wouldn't believe what I just saw…"
