Chapter 106 - Chapter 106: A Lively Battlefield

Two scorching gazes shot straight down from the sky.

With Colonel Rogers' extraordinary reflexes, the shield barely managed to catch Corin's gaze.

The teamwork with Tony Stark just now had Colonel Rogers shouting in excitement. It felt like the shield itself could fire beams.

And he could even adjust the direction.

Even though it lasted only a few seconds, Colonel Rogers had seen a completely different view.

'So cool!'

Hearing Corin call out, Rogers excitedly prepared to turn himself into a human cannon once again.

The heat vision struck the shield, and the two beams bent as they reflected.

Holding against Corin's heat vision, the Captain slowly rotated his shield, slicing all the enemies in front of him cleanly into two halves.

Excitement flashed in his eyes, mixed with shock.

Tony's energy cannon was strong too, but it only blasted enemies away.

'But Mr. Silver Duke's gaze is unbelievably powerful!'

It even gave him the illusion: I can cut through anything!

The reflected heat beams went wild in the enemy ranks.

No matter how thick their armor was, the moment it touched them, they were finished with permanent damage.

If they were lucky, they'd at least be cut evenly.

The Chitauri infantry fell in waves under the sweeping heat vision, like wheat bending in the wind.

But unlike wheat, once they fell, they stayed down. Not the kind that pops back up.

In just a few seconds, Colonel Rogers was completely lost in the thrill of mowing them down.

He shouted in delight, unable to hold it in, "Woohoo! Cool~ AHHH! Shit—hot!"

Who would've thought that before Colonel Rogers had his fill, a burning sensation traveled through the shield.

Anyone who's been burned knows.

At first, you don't even feel pain. After a moment, your pain nerves wake up from their stunned state.

And then they start torturing your brain like crazy.

That kind of pain, if you know, you know.

Clang!

The shield fell from Colonel Rogers' hand, already heated to a faint red glow.

And the Captain's arm was visibly swelling with large blisters, red and shiny.

It was only thanks to the super soldier serum giving him strong healing ability. Otherwise, the Avengers would've gained a one-armed hero from this day on.

"Pfft! Cough! Cough!"

Tony, standing nearby, couldn't help but laugh when he saw this, then immediately realized it was rude.

He coughed twice, quickly locked onto the enemies upstairs, blasted off into the air, and continued fighting.

The enemies clinging to the skyscraper's exterior had no chance against Tony's energy cannon and fell one after another.

On the ground, it was a complete mess.

Severed limbs of Chitauri infantry were scattered everywhere, giving off a thick burnt smell.

Colonel Rogers' arm, meanwhile, carried a faint scent of roasted meat.

At this moment, Corin landed in front of Rogers. Seeing his badly swollen arm and that resentful look in his eyes, he gave an awkward smile.

"I'll help you deal with it."

After saying that, he gently breathed out cold air. A stream of frosty white mist instantly covered Rogers' arm.

The cool chill soothed the nerves in Rogers' head that were jumping like crazy.

He looked strangely at the shield on the ground. The red glow on it was slowly fading.

'That's weird. My shield is invulnerable, immune to water and fire.'

'Tony's energy cannon is outrageous too, right?'

'I didn't even feel a bit of heat.'

'So why did it stop working when it came to Destiny?'

"Shit! That burned like hell…"

Thinking of that, Rogers looked down at his arm.

With Corin's cold treatment plus his own strong recovery ability, the injury itself was no longer a problem.

But the pain from the burn was still torturing his nerves.

Like a rock guitarist wildly strumming the strings, and those strings were his nerves.

'Heh. It's just pain.'

'I can handle it!'

'The ice was that cold, and I endured seventy years of it, didn't I?'

As he thought about it, a hint of pride even showed on Rogers' face.

Seeing that the Captain's arm was no longer red and swollen, Corin stopped.

A quick fix was enough. Was he really supposed to keep blowing on this grown man's arm nonstop?

That wave of enemies just now wasn't exactly satisfying to kill, but if even Tony could pull off a combo move with Rogers, there was no reason he couldn't.

Tony had cheekily blown up his 1.5 billion earlier. Back then, Corin would've sworn to be mortal enemies with him.

But now Corin only wanted to give Tony a small crushing lesson so he wouldn't get too proud.

The only thing he didn't expect was that the Captain couldn't handle it first.

"Sorry about that. I thought your shield had pretty good heat insulation."

'What kind of apology is that?'

Rogers forced himself to accept Corin's apology. After all, on the battlefield, blades and bullets don't have eyes, and the results were impressive.

But Corin's next words made the Captain feel wronged.

'How the hell was I supposed to know that a shield that never fails would suddenly drop the ball.'

Just as Rogers felt like his mindset was about to explode, Corin suddenly looked up at the sky, his expression turning serious, "Arrow, hold it!"

On the rooftop, Barton pulled his bow to full draw. With a slight adjustment, a flash of cold light shot out.

The arrow spun rapidly toward an alien chariot.

With his sharp eyes, Corin saw it and thought Barton had fired an explosive arrow.

If that explosive arrow hit, there goes another 1.5 billion of his…

'No way!'

Calling out was already too late. He had to act.

As his arm stretched out, a directional magnetic field spread open. The chariot Hawkeye had aimed at froze firmly in midair.

The arrow that had been fired with prediction, with the target suddenly stopping, missed.

Barton's mouth twitched as he watched his arrow fly past the suddenly frozen target. He roared in his heart, 'What a waste! motherf**ker…'

His quiver was almost empty. Every arrow he fired was meant to kill as many enemies as possible.

That sudden miss made his heart bleed.

He could only yell in his mind. Actually losing his temper at Corin? He didn't dare.

Pfft!

The arrow fell far away, plunging straight into the head of an unlucky Chitauri infantry, preserving Barton's perfect hit rate.

After casually taking down the enemy and retrieving the chariot, Corin saw where the arrow had ended up. Looking at Barton's not-so-friendly expression, he comforted him, "No problem! Your accuracy's still solid."

Barton saw that the arrow that was supposed to miss had sunk clean to the fletching into an infantryman's skull. His mood instantly cleared.

From afar, he gave Corin a thumbs-up.

Only then did Corin realize that Barton's arrow hadn't been fitted with an explosive tip. He must've run out of those.

'What a mess. Almost hurt a teammate's pride.'

Whoosh!

A strong gust of wind blew past as a Leviathan brushed by Corin's face.

If that chariot had followed the original plan and been shot by Barton, it would've collided head-on with this Leviathan.

"What's going on?"

His hair was blown up wildly by the wind.

Just as he was about to strike and take down this rude thing, Corin suddenly paused.

Hulk and Thor were messing around on the Leviathan that had just passed by.

"With these two on you, you've really got it rough."

Corin actually felt a little sorry for the Leviathan.

While dealing with enemies constantly climbing toward them, Thor and Hulk were also wrecking the Leviathan's body.

Hulk tore off a large piece of metal from its side, long and sharp.

"Urrgh!"

He leapt high into the air and, roaring, drove the big metal sheet into the Leviathan's body, leaving only a small section sticking out.

It looked exactly like a giant nail head sticking there.

Thor's eyes lit up. As someone who used a hammer, how could he resist the temptation of a nail head?

'Couldn't hold back!'

Thor moved faster than he thought, stretching his body and raising Mjolnir.

Mjolnir flashed with blue-white lightning, almost as if it was excited too, and smashed down hard.

BOOM! Crackle!

Massive lightning traveled along with the force of the hammer straight into that "nail head."

Countless bolts covered the Leviathan's body, and that deeply embedded giant nail violently tore apart its internal structure.

"ROAR!"

With a long wail, the Leviathan crashed headfirst into the ground.

Its momentum carried it sliding straight into a church.

Hulk and Thor walked side by side into the church to confirm the result.

The two big guys stood next to each other, and a trace of silent awkwardness drifted through the air.

Boing!

Thud!

Just as a hint of satisfaction appeared in Thor's eyes, Hulk punched him flying and sent him crashing hard into the ruins.

On the screen, only Hulk was left at last.

He sniffed, feeling much better.
