Chapter 1
MIRIO TOGATA
In a world filled with people having special powers called 'Quirks,' every child dreamed of being a Hero. Yet it was a calling that few could answer, for all 'Quirks' were not created equal. That was the harsh reality of this world, and Mirio knew that better than most.
Some quirks were simply more suited for Hero work than others. That was the truth of it, but he had decided on his path years ago. Suitable or not, Mirio was going to be a Hero.
A hero who saved people, just like the one who had saved him from drowning all those years ago. He would do that no matter what, and right now he was on the cusp of achieving that dream as he ran through the streets of the UA examination centre as a two Pointer chased after him.
"I have to time it right," and sounds of carnage filled the arena as the two Mirio suddenly took a turn, and found himself in a blind alley.
"Well, I guess this is it," and with that, he turned around and watched as the green robot barrelled towards him, blocking his exit as he took his stance.
"Target in sight!" and he saw that red eye of the robot, and unlike any sane person, Mirio began to run towards the massive robot, and as its massive arms extended towards him, he slid under them. Yet just as he had reached the massive robot, a hidden gun came out of its chest, aimed squarely at him.
PEW. PEW. PEW. PEW!
And there was little heroic about his quirk, but Mirio was not going to let that stop him. Not when he had made a promise to a friend, and as it unloaded its barrel, he screamed as he activated his quirk, utilising years of effort, as the bullets slid through him while his clothes were all left behind.
"AGHHHH!" and to the shock of the robot, he phased right through it as he appeared behind it, and saw the little red button up on its back.
"You are mine!" he screamed, and before it could attack him, he had slapped the button, and the robot stopped. Suddenly, a sound began to ring out of it.
RING. RING. RING.
BOOOOM!
"AGHHH!" he grunted as he rolled on the ground, as the two pointers exploded, and as he looked up, he saw his shirt burning, and lamented.
"My shirt," and he quickly pushed himself back up and pulled away his trousers, and they had burn marks on them as well.
"Father's not going to be happy," and yet despite his ordeal and the pain, the smile had never left his face as Mirio rewore his trousers with practised ease, and ran out of the alley once more.
"Help! Help!" he heard a boy scream as he ran away from a one-pointer, and without thinking, he raised his hand and shouted.
"Here!" he shouted, and the boy turned towards him as he picked up a rock and threw it straight at the robot, hitting it on the eye.
"Hey! Where do you think you are going?" and he was still in pain from his last encounter with that two-pointer, yet he did not care as the one-pointer turned towards him, leaving the bleeding boy alone.
"You are going down!" and he ran towards it just like before, yet this time he avoided its arm rather than using his quirk, before he slid down under it, and located the red button on its shoulder.
"There it is," but as if suspecting his attack, it spun its arms, but by now it was too late as he activated his quirk and let them phase through him, as he jumped up and slapped the button again.
"POWER!" he screamed, as the one pointer exploded, sending him back again.
"OUCH!" he rubbed his shoulder and saw the bruise forming there as he picked up his trousers once again.
And if he was right, he would have around fifteen pints by now, which was not nearly enough.
"Hey! Hey! Anyone!" he heard from the side, and saw one of his fellow test takers stuck under some rubble, yet many simply ran past him, ignoring his pleas.
And why wouldn't they? The UA practical exam was no joke, and there were no points for saving any person. The exam gave them ten minutes to destroy as many robots as they could, and given how few points he had gained until now, he should have left him alone and gone after another robot.
But he had long decided on the kind of hero he would want to be.
"Don't worry, I am here now," and the boy was crying, with tears in his eyes, as the steel bar pinned his leg down.
"I am sorry, but I hit my arm earlier," the boy explained.
"Don't worry, I will move it," and he walked to the side and grabbed the steel bar from the edge.
"Slide out on three," he said, and the boy nodded as Mirio used all of his strength to pull up the steel bar.
"AGHHHH!" and even after that, he could only move it a little.
"POWERRRR!" he yelled, and just as the bar budged, the boy slid away as Mirio let go of it again.
THUD
"HAaaaHAaaaa," he huffed, as he fell on the ground, and the boy grabbed his leg and cried.
"Thank you," and Mirio simply smiled.
"There is no need to thank me. I am just doing what a hero should," and the boy seemed taken aback at his answer, and he had simple, plain black hair and round purple eyes, and he, for some reason, reminded him of his best friend Tamaki, and he wondered just how he was doing in the exam.
"Well, not everyone felt the same," the boy said as Mirio helped him up.
"Do you need me to take you anywhere?" he asked, and the boy shook his head as he used the wall to support himself.
"No, you should go. You have wasted enough time. The exam is about to end," and he was right, and as Mirio glanced at his watch, he realised that there was but half a minute left.
"Well, I don't think I will be able to find another robot now," and that was a shame, but he was not one to give up.
"I will be..."
"There is a three-pointer on the street to our right," the boy answered, and Mirio saw his eyes were glowing and he was looking straight at the walls, as if he could see through them.
And he was wondering what his quirk was.
"You should go before someone else takes it," and Mirio nodded.
"Thank you," and with that, he ran out of the alley and then turned right, and indeed, there was a three-pointer standing there, cutting off his path, and its eyes glowed red as it turned towards him, and Mirio had not yet taken down a three-pointer, but he had no time to choose.
CLUNK. CLUNK. CLUNK.
"You are going down," he shouted, as the robot took out his guns, though before Mirio could run towards it, he heard another voice from behind the robot.
"HELP! HELP!" and he saw a pair of students standing there, with one holding up a large stone slab with his arms, protecting a girl lying underneath it.
The three Pointer ignored them as it remained focused on him, yet Mirio's focus shifted towards the pair of fellow students, and it had taken him years to master his quirk, but even then, using it on his entire body was still rather hard.
But he had no other choice.
"I can't hold on for much longer!" the boy screamed, and Mirio nodded.
"Don't worry! I am coming!" he screamed, and felt his pants vanish, once more, and immediately a wave of nausea as he pushed through the ground until he was just where the boy and girl were, and he slid out of the ground and reached for the stone slab.
"I have got it. Take her," he said to the boy, who fell away and smiled.
"Thank you," and he began to pull away the unconscious girl, yet before he had pulled her out, suddenly sirens began to ring out, and the very ground began to shake as the boy stopped.
BOOM! BOOOOM! BOOM!
And it was the sound of buildings falling that hit them first, before a large shadow came over them.
"RUN! RUN!" he heard screams as a dozen students ran past him, while the brown haired boy backed away in horror.
"No! I thought they were joking," and he had thought so as well, but as Mirio looked up, he saw a massive robot, nearly five times the size of a three-pointer, looking down at them.
"Pull her out!" he said to the boy, who looked at the girl and then at the massive robot pulling, and then, to his shock, he turned around and ran as Mirio grit his teeth and held up the slab of stone.
"SHIT! SHIT!"
"SURGE!" Suddenly, he heard from behind, and a yellow spiral blast hit the stone slab.
BOOM! BOOOM!
And the weight on his arms vanished, as he looked up and saw a blue-haired girl fly away.
"RUN!" he shouted in his direction, but he couldn't. He couldn't leave the girl alone, and with his quirk, it should have been easy for him to avoid the zero pointers' incoming attack, but Mirio was going to be a hero.
"You...shou...go," the girl whispered as Mirio stood infront of her as the giant robot hit the building to their right, making it fall right onto them.
"Don't worry. Everything will be just fine," he assured her, even though he knew that was a lie.
"After all, I am..." and he closed his eyes, just as the rubble was about to fall onto them.
"Barrier!" he heard, and he heard it all fall, yet the pain never came, and as he opened his eyes, he saw a green hue covering his head, holding up all of the rubble.
And then he heard footsteps behind him and turned to see a boy standing there, his hand outstretched in a lazy manner.
SHOOOOOOOO!
But the massive robot was not yet done, as it pushed past the rubble and tried to attack them once again, yet its attack failed to reach him, as the green barrier stopped it again and again, as the boy's lips moved again.
"Grand Fall!"
BOOOOOM! BOOOOM! BOOOOM!

In a world filled with heroes, UA was the most sought-after destination for every young aspiring Hero, and as he glanced at another batch of young prodigies fighting for their dream on the screens in front of him, he could not help but feel some elation at their zeal and commitment.
Getting admission into UA was not easy, and one had to excel both in academics and practical aspects to be even given a chance at the Exam, and the young heroes in front of him had all done that and more to stand here.
Yet now, only a handful of them will be allowed to attend their prestigious school.
His faculty sat right behind him, their gazes focused on the screen as they evaluated the students and their performance, yet unlike the years before, they were joined by a new face as well, one who stood just beside him as he stared at a particular boy on the screen.
"I must say I was not expecting the young and rising Star to grace us with his presence," Nezu commented, and the young Hero smiled at the praise as he rubbed his head.
"I wouldn't call myself young anymore," and Nezu chuckled.
"I would," and he was still young, just entering his twenties, yet despite that, he was amongst the most promising heroes in all of Japan, climbing through the ranks in an unprecedented manner.
The Wing Hero: Hawks, and if his own calculations were right, the young man would break into the top ten of the Hero Billboard rankings within the year at his current pace, yet that was not even the most surprising and intriguing thing about him.
"I just wanted to see the fabled UA High School," he lied, yet Nezu did not call him out on it, for the young Hero ran a rather respected agency and had agreed to host their students this year for internships because of this little favor.
"Well, that is quite natural. Still, I do hope it was up to your expectations," and as the exam neared its end, they let loose the zero pointer, and the entire room grew silent as they focused on the gigantic robot tearing through the made-up city.
Though despite his lies, Nezu already knew his reasons for being here, and soon enough it came on the screen as well, for as most of the students ran away from the gigantic robot, a singular student simply walked up to it.
He wore a sort of formal suit, with a sword hanging on his belt, and a cloak at his back, and just as the gigantic zero pointer threatened to crush the one student holding up a slab of stone over an unconscious girl, he raised his hand as a green barrier emerged over them and stopped the rubble from crushing them.
His name was Hyakuya Yuichiro, a young prodigy who had come out of nowhere yet had absolutely dominated the exam until now, and might have broken quite a few records with his marks if Nezu's calculations were correct.
The zero pointer did not relent and coiled back its fist and tried to tear through the barrier, yet despite its strength, the barrier did not budge, and Nezu saw those green eyes of his glow as his lips moved in a whisper.
"Grand..." and a giant translucent green pillar emerged over the Zero Pointer.
"...Fall!"
And fell down on it, causing the entire building to shake, as a cloud of dust and rubble covered the screen, causing many of the teachers behind him to raise brows as the young hero beside him smiled.
"That was quite impressive," Nezu commented, and Hawks nodded.
"It was, wasn't it," and there was a proud smile on his face, as the young Hero turned around, and as the cloud of dust began to clear, they saw that the zero pointer had been crushed to pieces, and the two young students stood there, safe and sound behind a green barrier, as a loud alarm sounded to indicate the end of the exam.
"Hyakuya Yuichiro," Nezu whispered, as all the screens in the room showed the boy from various angles, while the central one brought up his point tally and credentials, and as he had spoken up.
The boy had racked up over a hundred points, leaving the rest of the students behind in the dust, and he could have had much more if he so desired, yet it was obvious to him that he had held back.
"He is quite impressive, isn't he?" Nezu whispered, and the young Wing Hero nodded.
"That he is," and of course, he would know, for the two of them had a shared origin story, for they were not regular students.
"But I would have expected nothing less from someone recommended by someone like you...."
