Nick Fury and Tony didn't talk for long before ending their conversation.
Daniel withdrew his gaze from the ceiling and turned to Natasha, who had quietly moved several meters away.
"Why did you run off so far?"
Expressionless, Natasha replied, "It's cooler over here."
She blamed Daniel for it entirely. The man was acting like a walking translation device, live-translating the explosive conversation between Fury and Tony. Each sentence was more classified and outrageous than the last.
Natasha had been sweating bullets on the side. The last thing she wanted was to be accidentally implicated for overhearing major confidential intel.
Soon after, Nick Fury walked down the stairs.
"Agent Romanoff, continue monitoring Tony Stark until Agent Coulson arrives to relieve you."
After assigning Natasha her task, Fury turned to Daniel.
"As for you, Agent Daniel, I've got a mission for you."
"I need you to proceed immediately to Midtown High School and locate a man named Bruce Banner. I just received intel that General Ross is preparing to take action against him. Report to me the moment anything happens."
He emphasized the final line specifically—just to prevent Daniel from repeating past mistakes.
[NPC Nick Fury has issued you a new mission]
[Mission: The Green Monster at Midtown High]
[Objective: Go to Midtown High School, find Bruce Banner, and report developments to Nick Fury in a timely manner]
[Reward: EXP +1000, S.H.I.E.L.D. Reputation +20, Random Item ×1]
"Understood, sir."
Daniel nodded and left Tony's mansion.
Outside, the driveway that had previously been filled with luxury cars was now empty, except for a few S.H.I.E.L.D. vehicles.
Too late.
Daniel clicked his tongue in disappointment.
He had originally planned to steal a luxury car after the party to fill out his garage.
But since he was already here, returning empty-handed didn't feel like his style.
A few minutes later—
Having wrapped up everything, Nick Fury strode out of the mansion and instinctively reached for his keys, ready to drive back to HQ.
Then he froze.
The driveway was completely empty.
The conspicuous spot where his personal car had been parked… was now vacant.
Nick Fury: "…"
Where the hell is my car!?
At the same time—
Peter Parker was in a very foul mood.
Not far down the corridor, a couple was openly engaging in a highly energetic microbial-exchange and genetic-material-transfer project.
One was Flash, the school bully who constantly picked on him.
The other was his long-time crush and next-door neighbor, Mary Jane.
Watching the girl he adored being treated like that filled Peter with indescribable anguish.
"What a perfectly matched couple."
A voice suddenly sounded right beside his ear.
Where did this blind guy come from!?
Peter turned around and saw Daniel standing next to him in casual clothes.
"It's you! The guy from the alley—"
Halfway through the sentence, Peter abruptly swallowed his words.
That was close—he nearly exposed himself!
Peter immediately recognized him. This was the nutcase who had cracked a man's eggs like a capsule toy in that alley a few days ago.
Back then he had appeared as Spider-Man, so Daniel shouldn't know who he really was.
Daniel didn't expose him. Instead, he asked with mild curiosity, "Judging by your face, you seem really invested in that couple?"
Peter laughed dryly. "No, not really."
"You can lie to me, but don't lie to yourself. Your eyes already betrayed you. Actually, you like that red-haired girl… or the white jock next to her?"
Peter: "???"
"Relax, just kidding. But here's some real advice: that girl's not right for you."
Daniel wasn't making it up.
He had taken a quick glance at Mary Jane's character information, and her stats were… not flattering.
Peter couldn't help asking, "Why?"
Daniel grinned. "Isn't it obvious? She screams 'green tea'. She flirts with every guy around, casting a wide net. If you became her boyfriend, you'd be blessed—free green hats every day."
Hearing his goddess being insulted, Peter shot back immediately, "Mary Jane is not that kind of person! I'm her neighbor—she's never flirted with me!"
Daniel: "…"
He said nothing, only patted Peter's shoulder sympathetically.
The silence conveyed everything.
Peter looked confused. "Seriously, who are you?"
"Name's Daniel. I'm the new transfer… in the sports department."
"You're a student too?" Peter asked, stunned.
"What, do I not look like one?"
Peter's mouth twitched.
Which student pulled guns on people at the slightest disagreement and turned guys into Beyblades?
"You seem more like a writer," Peter muttered. "You're good at making things up."
He refused to believe Mary Jane was a green tea, just like every good simp believed his goddess really did go shower and sleep.
Daniel looked genuinely surprised. "Huh, how'd you know I used to be an author? My novel went unfinished and readers mailed me razor blades. While running from them, I found out I was extremely fast, so I switched careers to athletics."
Peter: "…"
At that moment, Peter suddenly sensed something and snapped his head toward the windows.
Daniel followed his gaze and saw several heavily armed soldiers rushing into the school campus. Dozens of military tactical vehicles were parked around the perimeter.
Clearly, General Ross had begun his operation.
Students quickly noticed the odd situation, faces filled with confusion and growing panic.
What was happening?
Had terrorists invaded the school?
Before they could figure anything out, the ear-piercing school broadcast blared across campus:
"All students evacuate immediately! This is not a drill! I repeat—this is not a drill!"
The hallway erupted into chaos. Students fled in terror.
"Daniel, let's go!" Peter called out.
Only when he saw Mary Jane and Flash running safely did he relax enough to turn back and warn Daniel.
Daniel waved him off. "I'm a sports student. Even if something happens, I'll just get a scratch at most."
Peter: "?"
"ROOOOAAAARRRR!!!"
At that moment, a deafening beastlike roar exploded through the entire school!
A violent shockwave swept outward, visible to the naked eye.
The corridor windowpanes shattered instantly, shards spraying everywhere amid screams.
A massive green figure burst through the building's structure and emerged into view.
Nearly three meters tall.
Skin a healthy, refreshing deep green.
Wearing nothing but an oversized pair of purple shorts.
Muscles bulging like they were sculpted from stone—definitely not protein-powder results.
Its glowing green eyes burned with pure rage as it glared at the panicked crowd.
