Chapter: Letters, Vows, and the Road Ahead
The morning sun rose gently over Silverlake, gilding the calm water and the stone paths of Saint John's estate. For the first time in years, the mansion felt… quiet. Not empty—just aware. As if it knew something precious was about to leave.
Aurelia
Aurelia stood by the window of her room, fingers resting against the cool glass. Below, servants moved with purpose, packing crates, securing carriages, whispering rumors they didn't dare speak aloud. Daniel and Lady Leslie were leaving today.
Her chest ached in a way she didn't know how to name.
I knew this would happen, she told herself. He was never meant to stay.
But knowing didn't make it easier.
A knock sounded.
Aurelia: "Come in."
Daniel stepped inside, dressed simply, a small satchel over his shoulder. He looked the same—and yet not. The truth of his blood, his future, hung around him like an invisible crown.
Daniel: "You didn't come down for breakfast."
Aurelia forced a smile.
Aurelia: "I wasn't hungry."
Daniel watched her for a moment, then spoke softly.
Daniel: "Aurelia… come with me."
She blinked.
Aurelia: "Where?"
Daniel hesitated—then straightened, resolve settling in his eyes.
Daniel: "On a date."
Her breath caught.
Aurelia: "A… date?"
Daniel: "A proper one. Not practice. Not sneaking glances. Just you and me."
Her heart leapt, then trembled.
Aurelia: "But today—"
Daniel: "Is our last day here."
Silence stretched between them.
Then Aurelia nodded.
Aurelia: "Okay."
---
Daniel
He had faced assassins, nobles, even kings without flinching.
But asking Aurelia on a date?
That terrified him.
They walked beyond the estate, down the familiar path that circled Silverlake. The town greeted them with warmth—vendors smiling, children waving, the scent of baked bread drifting through the air. Daniel bought honey pastries from a stall Aurelia loved, pretending not to notice the way her eyes sparkled.
They sat by the lake's edge, shoes off, toes brushing the water.
Daniel: "I wanted this to be… normal."
Aurelia laughed softly.
Aurelia: "With a prince asking me on a date? That ship sailed."
Daniel smiled.
Daniel: "Then let's pretend I'm still just Daniel."
Aurelia turned to him, serious now.
Aurelia: "To me, you always were."
The words settled deep in his chest.
They talked for hours—about silly memories, about books they loved, about fears they never shared with anyone else. Daniel listened as Aurelia spoke of expectations, of being watched, of learning to smile even when she wanted to scream.
Aurelia: "Sometimes I feel like my life was planned before I could even walk."
Daniel nodded.
Daniel: "Mine too. Just… in the opposite direction."
She reached for his hand.
Aurelia: "I was scared to say this."
Daniel's heart raced.
Aurelia: "But I don't want to be separated from you ..i don't want you to go to capital and leave me all alone here ."
She inhaled shakily.
Aurelia: "I Need you here , Daniel."
The world went quiet.
Daniel didn't answer immediately—not because he didn't know, but because he wanted the words to be right.
Daniel: "I also feel the same Aurelia.. i don't want to leave you behind..not now or ever ..it is just that the situation is not in our hands..but I can promise you Aurelia..i also need you here right beside me ."
Tears welled in her eyes.
Daniel: "I can't promise an easy future."
Daniel: "But I promise you this— I will write you all the time from capital and the place besides me will always be yours."
He squeezed her hand.
Daniel: "If you'll have it."
Aurelia laughed through tears and threw her arms around him.
Aurelia: "I was already mine before you even asked."
They hugged each other— full of promises unspoken.
---
Both
As the sun dipped low, they returned to the estate hand in hand.
The courtyard was filled with people.
Music.
Silk banners.
And at the center—
King Orean Evercrest stood beside Leslie Heartlock, both dressed in ceremonial white and gold. The air shimmered with ancient magic as vows were spoken—not of power, but of protection.
King Orean: "I swear, before the gods and this realm, to honor you—not as possession, not as symbol—but as my wife."
Leslie's voice trembled, but her eyes shone.
Leslie: "And I swear to walk beside you—not in fear, but in truth."
When the oath was sealed, light surged skyward, and the crowd erupted in cheers.
Aurelia smiled for Leslie—truly smiled—even as her heart ached.
Daniel watched his mother, pride and relief washing over him.
Daniel (softly): "She's safe."
Sensei: "For now. But the world has shifted."
Daniel: I know.

Goodbyes
The celebration was warm, but brief. Carriages waited.
Baron Dean clasped Daniel's shoulder.
Dean: "You'll always have a home here."
Octavia hugged Leslie tightly.
Octavia: "You deserve happiness."
She turned to Aurelia, brushing her daughter's hair back.
Octavia: "And so do you."
Aurelia stood before Daniel, trying to be brave.
Aurelia: "You'll write."
Daniel smiled, pulling out a small stack of letters and a quill
Daniel: "Already prepared.". Aurelia I hope you too keep our promise and writes to me
Daniel: "Every week. No excuses."
Aurelia laughed, then cried.
Aurelia: "You'd better keep that promise, Prince Daniel."
Daniel leaned close, whispering.
Daniel: "I'm still just Daniel… to you."
The carriage doors closed.
As they rolled away, Aurelia finally broke, tears spilling freely.
Octavia wrapped her arms around her.
Octavia: "You know… when you both attend the academy in the capital…"
Aurelia sniffed.
Aurelia: "Yes?"
Octavia smiled knowingly.
Octavia: "No one will question you wanting to be his wife."
Aurelia froze.
Octavia: "I always knew how you felt."
Aurelia's cheeks flushed.
Octavia: "And I only want your happiness."
She kissed her daughter's forehead.

The Road to the Capital
Night fell as the carriage moved steadily forward.
Daniel sat beside Leslie, watching the countryside pass.
Daniel: "Sensei… this is homecoming, isn't it?"
Sensei: "Yes. But also a beginning."
Daniel: "The palace will change."
Sensei: "So will you."
Daniel looked ahead, determination steadying his heart.
Daniel: "Then let it."
Behind them, Silverlake faded into memory.
Ahead lay the capital—secrets, power, danger.
And a future rewritten by love, choice, and letters yet to be written.
