Allyson's POV
I stared at Michael in disbelief, my stomach twisting as I waited for him to finish his sentence. Surely this was some twisted joke, and he would laugh any moment, taking back those impossible words.
But Michael didn't laugh. His expression remained stone cold, completely serious.
What did he mean by helping Reagan grow up? Keeping him focused? Becoming the woman who would inspire him to be a better man?
Was I supposed to become some kind of life coach now? Or worse, play the role of a supportive girlfriend?
"Michael, this won't work. Can't you see that? Not after everything between us. You pride yourself on honesty, yet now you want me to lie to your son?"
He stepped closer, eliminating the space between us until I could feel the familiar, maddening heat radiating from his body. I instinctively backed away, but it wasn't enough. His breath ghosted across my cheek as he spoke.
