Chapter 1 - Forged in darkness

My father, Kenji, a black-haired boy with eyes shining gray, was born without any elemental abilities in a world where everyone has one, making him the only human on Earth without abilities.

For this reason, he made the decision to train his body gruesomely, attempting to break his limit and learning the way of the sword and practicing everyday.

Nevertheless, he was still weaker than the average person because of his lack of abilities.

His family were nobles who knew of Kenji's lack of powers. To avoid tarnishing the Hikari name, they hid him from the public and never allowed him to leave the palace.

His brothers and sisters were the best and most powerful element users that created and mastered techniques for their specific elemental power.

One night, the Adjons a gang that kills and enslaves people for money came at the darkest hour of night to kill every member of the family. Unfortunately for them, Kenji's father was awake, working on a research paper in his room. He stepped outside for some fresh air to rest his mind. At that moment, he noticed the eerie silence. An uneasy feeling swept over him.

SHING!

In a blink of an eye, Ryo, Kenji's father, swerved as an unexpected weapon flew near his face, almost killing him. His eyes kept track of the speeding weapon, realizing that it was a dagger that seemingly came out of nowhere. In that very moment, the Adjons emerged from the darkness, revealing where the dagger came from. They were ready to kill, with their blades in hand, and with one saying, "It is nothing personal," as they all attacked him at once.

Kenji's father dodged hits from all angles, hitting an Adjon in his stomach, sending him back flying a great distance away. A CREEK! One of their legs was broken from a hit that Ryo gave him.

As Ryo was ready to use his elemental ability, his neck was slashed by a founding member of the Adjon group who appeared out of the darkness and said, "I have a funny idea," to his grunts with a sinister grin on his face.

In that time, Kenji's mother was in the room Ryo had just left. She was waiting for him to come back. She couldn't sleep because her husband wasn't next to her, so she waited on him to come back into the room.

The door opened, and she said, "Honey, why did you take so long?" Her husband didn't reply. She opened her eyes to see his figure in the darkness slowly walking towards her.

She decided that she wanted to see her husband's face before she tried to sleep. With the biggest smile on her face, she used her flames to bring forth a little light to see him.

The joy turned to confusion after seeing that his skin on his face didn't look right. Then confusion turned into shock as she realized that the skin on the person's face was falling off to reveal an Adjon assassin.

In that moment of her realization, the assassin slashed her throat and took her face off.

The 10 Adjons stealthily made it to Kenji's siblings' room. Two entered the room wearing the faces and clothes of their parents, while the others waited outside.

Entering the room carefully and confidently, the killers pretended to be their parents, ready to kill them at a moment's notice.

The eldest and the pride and joy of the family was asleep and felt the calm atmosphere change to an immense pressure with killing intent as his parents entered the room. The other four woke up anxiously, wondering what that pressure was they felt, and then realized that it was their mother and father entering the room. The eldest, feeling weirded out, went to ask them what happened.

SWOOSH! A sword slashed after him with full force, cutting through the air silently and not alerting the others. The eldest dodged and ran away from them, saying, "Mother! Father!" as confusion took over him. The others, wondering what happened, saw their brother's confusion and called to their parents and got up, ready to defend their brother for whatever he did.

As the eldest realized what was happening, he yelled, "RUN!" He used his wind power to send a powerful pulse of air to destroy the room they were in.

Then the siblings gathered together and saw the two Adjon members stepping into the light.

The children's faces became filled with rage and despair as they saw the faces of their parents on the body of the men in front of them.

The other Adjon members stepped out of the shadows, ready to toy with the children.

Seeing this, the children separated from each other and, out of rage, began to take on the enemy. The youngest used his ice ability to freeze the area around him, trapping an Adjon's leg.

But as that happened, one more appeared and tried to cut off his head swiftly with a sharp and very thin blade, piercing through the air without a sound, but failed as the youngest dodged and launched a large ice spear at top speed, breaking the sound barrier. Nevertheless, the Adjon dodged it with remarkable prowess.

This gave another Adjon time to hold the arm of the boy that he had used to throw the ice spear and break it and tear his arm off, making him bleed profusely. He was crying and screaming from the pain, but with his determination, the youngest used his ultimate technique.

Saying, "It's the only way to win,"

KINETIC FREEZE

(a technique that stops all molecules that are near him in a 20-meter radius for 20 seconds, which means he stops everything from moving except himself), but it was too late. A sword went through his body, piercing his heart, and then was dragged upwards, making a wide tear on his body.

With massive blood loss, the boy cried. His emotions flooded out and his eyes watered as he said, "What a way to die, on the path of greatness, dying like a peasant," as his body softly fell on his knees, looking at the midnight sky above.

The eldest, seeing this, swelled with anger and said, "KNOW THAT YOU'VE DONE ENOUGH! THAT IS THE LAST STRAW!"

As he used the wind to increase his speed, becoming faster and even faster than before, moving past the speed of sound.

He reached his target instantaneously and sliced them into pieces as he moved as if there was no gravity and moved in every direction, killing three of them in a flash. However, an Adjon adapted to his speed and caught up to him, saying, "Too slow," with a grin on his face. He started mocking him.

His sisters, fighting the other Adjons, tried to attack the Adjons but missed every time, making the Adjons mock them.

His sisters shouted to him, saying, "We can't fight them one on one! We need to team up!"

One sister wields the power of lightning, while the other commands the earth. Together with their brother, they unite their power to combat a great evil.

CRACK! A beautiful blue lightning bolt flew towards the enemies and reached instantaneously to where the target is located, but yet still the Adjons dodged every attack.

"THEY'RE TOO FAST!" one of the sisters said.

GROOM! The earth rose up and trapped one and sank him in the ground, and using the force of the whole planet to crush him, but only saw him stepping out, brushing off dirt and mud as if nothing happened, cracking his neck with a bright smile.

"WE CAN'T HANDLE THEM!" they both screamed.

Two daggers flew towards the girls at top speed, the girls trying their best to survive as the daggers grazed their face, barely missing them.

"It felt as if time has stopped," a sister thought as the blade of the dagger scraped her face when she attempted to dodge it.

The girls realized they couldn't win; the Adjons weren't even trying to take them seriously, just toying with them. They broke down, tears flowing freely, standing tall, resigned to their fate. "We recognize our limitations, and our end is near. We've made our peace and leave it to you, our brother," both sisters said. With that, two daggers pierced their skulls, ending their lives instantly.

The eldest, hearing his sisters' last words, snapped. He went insane.

"I... WILL... KILL... I WILL KILL YOU ALL!"

He used his ultimate technique called "Airless," taking the air from everything.

Looking at his dead siblings, he focused and said, "I will avenge you," in a monotone voice, ready to kill. "This is my final move to end this all."

Airless.

"What a wonderful technique," a founding member of the Adjons said, blending in among the grunts which were dying from the lack of air. "It's just that, it doesn't work on me," with a devious smile as he moved in an instant to lop off his head.

Before the eldest could comprehend his words, he wondered, "Why am I looking at the sky?" "I can't move my body!" Then his head landed on the ground, with him looking at his own body. "Oh. I couldn't do it. I wasn't strong enough." With a feeling of nothingness and void of emotions, the eldest is forced to look at his failure as he can't explain what just happened to him.

His consciousness fades away, and the now "Future of our World" is dead.

During this moment, Kenji hid under his bed, believing his siblings would take care of it.

GROAN! The door opened.

Kenji, who was waiting for this to end and his brother to come to say, "It's alright, we won," and comfort him in his distress, emerged from underneath the bed, but the silence filled the room as he did. The Adjons wore the faces of his parents and siblings, his own face twisted in fear and terror. Kenji felt reality slipping away as he grappled with the horrifying truth: all his family members were dead.

"Is he a part of the family?"

"Hey kid, why didn't you fight with your brothers and sisters?" the Adjon member asked.

"Were you that afraid?" They laughed.

"We're giving you a chance to do something. Come on, let us do a quick battle."

Kenji, just coming from underneath the bed, ready to burst with tears, pissed himself and was slowly losing his mind.

"What happened?" "How?" "Am I... am I gonna... DIE??"
