Chapter 7 - chapter six

As I stood in front of frost holdings again, I began to contemplate on how things could go good or bad, looking up at this tall glass building and not knowing what my fate would be behind them, everything in me screamed for me to run and never go back, but I couldn't do that not now.

I reminded myself why I was there, for Maya my mom and my sister Everest, they don't even know half of what is going on and I'll like to keep it that way, any moment from now I could go back being that poor and broke girl I was years ago. I've come too far to let anything get in my way, not even mr Liam himself.

I stepped inside with my head held high and headed for the elevators, the receptionist recognized me and said nothing, still smiling at an individual she was attending to, pressing the elevator buttons I stepped inside and pushed for floor 50, my heart in my mouth hoping this goes well.

The doors opened to Mr frost's office where there where other employees and staff in his office in what seemed like a meeting, how are all these elderly people his employers?

His eyes raised to meet mine and they were filled with suprised and amusement, he excused everyone and as they where leaving I stood there staring at this hot Greek god

Everyone was gone and suddenly the air felt thick and heavy, his eyes wandered all round my body. Slow and unreadable

Miss Lane" he said so infuriatingly calm " I suppose you're here to accept the offer"

I swallowed hard, lifting my chin.

"I'm here because I don't have a choice," I replied steadily.

Something flickered in his eyes satisfaction, victory, maybe relief. I couldn't tell.

He walked closer, steps echoing through the silent office. His cologne hit me hard, why was this son of a bitch so hot and sexy, why am I thinking all of these thoughts about a man I so claim to hate.

"Choice or not," he said, his voice low, "you'll address me as 'sir' while you work for me."

My jaw clenched so tight it hurt.

He pointed to the contract sitting neatly on the table, a gold pen resting beside it like a weapon.

"Full-time. Personal assistant. Salary included. Housing covered. Benefits extensive."

Housing? I blinked, surprised, but refused to show anything.

My fingers trembled as I picked up the pen. The contract felt like a trap, a gilded cage. I looked at him one last time, hoping for anything human in his expression.

Nothing.

Just cold steel and power.

Signing this felt like selling my soul.

But my signature slid across the page anyway.

The final stroke echoed in my chest like a gunshot.

Liam Frost smiled, slow, controlled, victorious.

"Welcome to Frost Holdings, Miss Lane."

I stared back at him bitterly.

"I'm only here because I need a job and I don't want to be homeless"

His expression darkened, something dangerous sparking just beneath the surface.

"Alright ," he said quietly.

"And all I want is your dedication to the job."

"Your employment begins tomorrow at 7 AM," he finished.

"Don't be late. And don't disappoint me."

I turned and walked out without looking back even though my legs felt like they could collapse.

This wasn't a victory.

This was war.

And I had just stepped willingly onto the battlefield.
