Chapter 160 - Chapter 160: Is This Difference Brought About by the Sharingan or Superior Talent?

Chapter 160: Is This Difference Brought About by the Sharingan or Superior Talent?

"Oh?" Orochimaru's interest clearly rose. He pulled a chair over, sat beside Kenichi, asked for the data, and began comparing it with him.

In the ninja world, most shinobi share extremely similar genetic sequences. The real differences are hidden inside a small set of variant genes, but even pulling those out one by one was enough to give anyone a headache.

Thankfully, the Uchiha were a true bloodline clan, so their genetic similarity was even higher. Kenichi's task was straightforward in theory: compare each sequence, mark every difference between the first sample and the two Uchiha samples, then categorize what changed.

In practice, it was still a slow, time consuming grind that felt like torture.

If his goal were to separate and analyze the genetic differences between shinobi and ordinary civilians, the difficulty would explode several times over. Luckily, Kenichi had no intention of tackling that nightmare right now. That kind of work could wait until later.

After all, once a unified foundation existed, they could pool national resources and do something truly outrageous, like collecting genetic sequences from the entire ninja world, building a massive gene bank, then launching a full scale decryption project.

If every gene could be deciphered, genetic programming would become possible. At that point, anyone could potentially learn ninjutsu and become a shinobi, and productivity across the world would surge.

But that was the future.

Kenichi had no plans to take steps that big right now, unless he wanted to invite disaster.

"Teacher, can this computer be programmed to automatically identify genetic differences?" Kenichi rubbed his eyes. Staring at the screen for so long was exhausting.

He had not expected that even after coming to the ninja world, he would still be glued to a computer.

Orochimaru gave him a strange look. "Can you do it?"

Kenichi rubbed his face, then quietly shook his head. He could not. He had not majored in computer science back in college.

Knowledge was never enough.

If he had the right skills now, he would not be sitting here rubbing his eyes raw while manually comparing line after line. Even with the Sharingan, the strain made his eyes feel like they were burning.

The knowledge Kenichi carried over from his previous life was his greatest asset. If he could bring entire libraries of professional books into this world, shinobi technology would explode overnight.

Unfortunately, he had no portal, and no way back.

A ridiculous thought suddenly crossed his mind. If people in his previous life had carried Sharingan genes, would students awaken their eyes in a burst of rage under exam pressure?

The odds were low, but the image almost made him laugh.

"That's research," Orochimaru said, sounding almost amused as he watched Kenichi struggle. "It's like developing ninjutsu. It always takes time."

He was not wrong. First you identify the variant genes, then label and number them, then test what each one actually does. Every step was tedious.

"I know you're not really comforting me. You're complaining too," Kenichi said with a smile.

He understood better than anyone how brutal research could be. Sometimes you worked for years and got nothing. In extreme cases, a decade passed with no meaningful result.

The fact that he had already made progress was impressive.

Kenichi glanced at Orochimaru, seated beside him with his chin resting on one hand, calmly studying the screen. The scene felt wrong in a way. It did not look like a shinobi world at all.

It looked like an internet cafe from his previous life.

Kenichi's gaze drifted for a split second, then he caught himself and immediately refocused on the data.

Once he cleared the distractions from his head, his speed improved noticeably. Comparing and marking everything line by line was still annoying, but with the computer, the Sharingan, and Orochimaru's help, the progress remained fast.

Before long, they completed the gene comparison between the first sample and the two other Uchiha samples.

"Most genes are the same," Kenichi said, resting his chin on his hand as he studied the statistics. "A total of 39,728 genes were detected. Whether there are undiscovered genes still hiding in the sequence needs further verification."

The human genome generally contained over thirty nine thousand genes. Only laboratories truly obsessed over the precise count, and it might include regions not fully detected or recognized.

But the more interesting question was always the same.

How different was a human from a pig?

Most people assumed the gap was enormous, but it was not. Humans and pigs shared up to eighty three percent similarity. Humans and gorillas were even closer, around ninety nine percent.

Of course, similar genes did not mean humans and pigs shared the same ancestor.

The differences between humans were even smaller. Modern research suggested the genetic difference between two people might only be around zero point five percent.

In that sense, the ninja world should not be wildly different.

And yet Kenichi had found something strange.

The first sample and second sample differed by 278 points, almost 300.

Or rather, it was not just differences. The first sample contained 98 more genes than the other Uchiha sample, and the remainder were genes with variations.

Kenichi frowned and pointed at the table. "The difference between sample two and sample three is more normal. Only 197 differences, and no extra genes."

Unless there were still undiscovered genes, there should not be a sudden jump like that.

"How did you get this first sample?" Orochimaru's expression turned sharp with surprise.

The difference between the second and third samples was within expectations.

But the first sample having ninety seven or ninety eight extra genetic information appearing out of nowhere was bizarre. The total number of human genes rarely changed. Even when it did, it was usually an isolated case.

This kind of surge was not normal.

"I got it from Shisui," Kenichi said without hesitation.

The moment he saw the extra genetic information, he knew he needed a reasonable explanation.

"Shisui?" Orochimaru paused, then immediately connected the name to his memory. "That Uchiha genius."

Kenichi was not surprised Orochimaru knew him. Shisui had earned a frightening reputation during battles against Kumogakure and Iwagakure.

That title carried the same weight as "White Fang of Konoha."

If Kenichi followed that naming style, he might end up being called "Demon of Akatsuki."

Just thinking about it made his skin crawl.

"Yeah. When I brought the supplies out before, I fought him and got a bit of tissue," Kenichi said with a smile.

He could not talk about Obito's eye. The owner of that thing was still alive.

If Obito ever found out, the situation would become entertaining in the worst possible way. Kenichi had no idea whether Obito had any special feelings about his missing eye.

But what if he did?

That would be a headache.

"Interesting," Orochimaru said, smiling now, clearly intrigued. "So much genetic information, but he's still Uchiha."

He looked at the data like it was a treasure map. It had been a long time since anything had truly grabbed his curiosity like this.

"It's from the Uchiha, and it has the Sharingan," Kenichi said, rubbing his temples. "But the sample size is too small. I can't tell whether every Mangekyo user looks like this, or whether awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan, is what causes these genetic changes."

There was not enough proof yet.

Kenichi did the math in his head and spoke in his head. "Right now, Shisui still has Mangekyo in the ninja world. We can also look forward to Itachi later. As for Sasuke, that's too far in the future."

Itachi could wait.

Sasuke was out of the question. If Kenichi waited for Sasuke, he suspected he would not even need Sasuke's Mangekyo by then.

So for now, the most convenient target was still Shisui.

"As for Madara," Kenichi shook his head, "he no longer has the Sharingan. He has the more advanced Rinnegan. And the real problem is that the Rinnegan is with Nagato. Getting close enough to scrape anything from Nagato's eyes would not be easy."

So Shisui was still the best option.

"The Sharingan…" Orochimaru fell into thought again.

He was considering what those extra genes truly meant. Finding different genes, extra information, and identifying differences were not the same thing as understanding what those differences did.

"Teacher, I want to draw another sample for comparison," Kenichi said calmly.

Shisui was still in Konoha, and in the future, countless Uchiha lab rats would be delivered to Kenichi's laboratory anyway.

He was not in a rush.

Besides Shisui, he still had four little shinobi who needed his careful guidance. He could draw their blood as well and build up a sample pool. That would be interesting in its own way.

"Uchiha?" Orochimaru asked.

Kenichi nodded immediately. Of course it was Uchiha. If it was not Uchiha, he would not even bother drawing it.
