Chapter 201: Deidara Wants to Learn the Art of Explosion

"An explosion is not just about yield. It also depends on the type of explosive, the initial velocity at the moment of detonation, and a lot of other factors."

Kenichi smiled faintly as he looked at Deidara, who was listening with almost frightening focus.

No wonder people said teaching was a uniquely human habit. The feeling of passing knowledge on and earning someone's trust was, annoyingly, wonderful.

Kenichi had once heard about a parent who wanted their child to study harder, so they deliberately asked the child to teach them what they learned at school. In the end, the child's grades really did improve.

"So, Amamiya senpai," Deidara raised his hand seriously, "how can I increase the power of my explosions?"

Kenichi paused, then fell into thought.

The destructive force of a conventional explosion depended heavily on the explosive itself. Black powder was one thing. Chemical explosives were another. Thermobaric weapons and airburst bombs each had their own strengths and effects.

And then there were nuclear weapons.

Nuclear weapons did not just have terrifying blast power. The radiation they produced could cause long lasting, widespread harm, turning the aftermath into a nightmare for anyone unlucky enough to survive.

Yet all of those weapons had one shared trait.

Their explosive materials were fundamentally different, and they could be replaced. Thermobaric weapons used thermobaric explosives, which were not even in the same category as nuclear weapons.

But Deidara was different.

His explosions relied entirely on Explosion Release, which meant every "explosive" he used was the same at its core. If that was the case, then simply swapping materials was not an option.

If he wanted more power, the most obvious route was still increasing yield.

"Simply piling on chakra will not work," Kenichi said after a moment. "You will only waste a huge amount of chakra for damage that does not scale properly. Under certain conditions, your bomb's power should reach a maximum."

As he spoke, Kenichi's mind drifted to his own ongoing notes. Lately, he had been quietly collecting data on the relationship between a shinobi's chakra output and the actual power of their jutsu, trying to find an optimal ratio.

Of course, he was not bringing Deidara to his main laboratory. Even if Deidara was a loud fan of his, that level of trust did not exist yet.

Nearby, Sasori sat on the ground, casually playing with a small ball like it was the most important experiment in the world.

"The leader is actually a pretty good person," Sasori said without looking up.

Kenichi's mouth twitched.

No wonder the Third Tsuchikage had pushed Deidara out of the village. Otherwise, Iwagakure would have to pay a fortune every year just to cover the houses he damaged and the people he injured.

Kenichi had confidence in Deidara's talent and persistence. The boy was just too persistent, so obsessive it crossed into something unhealthy. Aside from that, he did not have any major flaws.

Then, for some reason, Kenichi's thoughts jumped to Jiraiya.

"I wonder which book Jiraiya sama has published by now," Kenichi muttered.

That was… strangely cool.

A normal hydrogen bomb could already reach a maximum destructive effect. If someone kept stacking more and more yield onto a single bomb, what was the point if it could be intercepted before it ever reached the target?

Kenichi exhaled, then made his decision.

"Let's go. I'll explain some basic facts about explosions first."

He reached out and tugged Deidara along, leading him outside without hesitation.

The idea of him being asked to teach someone still felt absurd. Did Nagato really think Kenichi had something in common with Sasori and Deidara just because explosions kept happening around him?

As they walked, Kenichi's mind wandered into another analogy he liked.

If a game was developed by ten thousand people, a hundred thousand people, or a million people, the speed and precision would obviously change. But no company could actually hire a million people to develop one game.

Ninjutsu was similar in principle. Just in reverse, explosions were similar too.

Deidara kept close, eyes shining.

Kenichi's brain supplied a historical reference from his previous life, and it refused to shut up.

The Tsar Bomba, the so called king of nuclear bombs, had a yield of fifty million tons. When it was first designed, it was supposed to reach a hundred million tons, but it was lowered because of radiation and other severe issues caused by an explosion at that scale.

Then Kenichi thought of Nagato.

Nagato was ruthless and decisive. To fulfill his best friend's ideals, he would kill even his own mentor, Jiraiya, without hesitation.

Kenichi's expression remained calm, but his thoughts sharpened.

Maybe that was why Nagato simply told Deidara to learn from him. It kept the brat busy, and it kept him from blowing up something truly important.

Fine. If that was the arrangement, Kenichi would do the bare minimum.

He would teach Deidara the fundamentals, then let him run wild and see what the boy could create on his own.

"Deidara, come here," Kenichi said, stopping and turning. "I'll show you some basic knowledge about explosions."

Deidara nodded hard. "I understand, Amamiya senpai!"

The adoring stare hit Kenichi again, and he felt a flash of embarrassment. This was probably what people meant by a fanboy.

Deidara immediately tried to apply what he heard, hands moving too quickly.

Kenichi almost laughed.

Then he saw what Deidara was about to do, and he stopped him in an instant.

"Hold it." Kenichi grabbed his wrist. "Not here."

This was Sasori's research base. If Deidara blew it up, Sasori would lose his mind.

Kenichi glanced sideways.

Sasori was still playing with that small ball, focused as if the world could end and he would not notice. Sasori really had caused explosions constantly before, to the point of blasting out deep craters. That was impressive in its own destructive way.

And Deidara, staring at Kenichi with pure admiration, was exactly the same kind of person. He was the type who called explosions art. Expecting him not to love detonations was like expecting fire not to burn.

Kenichi's thoughts ran in a cynical circle.

Black Zetsu manipulated Madara. Madara manipulated Obito. Obito manipulated Nagato.

Calling Nagato a puppet was not unreasonable.

And Kenichi himself had been branded with the title Heavenly Demon.

So what was this now?

The Akatsuki's explosive trio?

A puppet's puppet's puppet, and then three people with a shared hobby of making things go boom.

"It seems the leader really trusts us," Kenichi remarked quietly.

Sasori glanced at him, sensing there was something under those words, but with Deidara present, it was not the time to ask. He swallowed his curiosity.

Kenichi turned back to Deidara. "Did the leader assign you any missions?"

Logically, Akatsuki was short on people right now. Even a dog like Nagato would throw new members into work.

"No," Deidara shook his head immediately. "The leader just told me to learn from you, Amamiya senpai!"

Kenichi's lips twitched.

Learn from him?

He had no experience leading a team. He barely tolerated leading his own shadow clones.

Even more strangely, neither Kenichi nor Sasori had received any missions from Nagato for quite some time, and they had no idea why.

At least it kept Deidara from blowing up his own base, Kenichi thought.

Sasori's earlier comment returned to Kenichi's mind, and he gave a small snort.

"He's a good person, but his ideals are naive," Kenichi said flatly.

Nagato's dream could not be realized because he was someone else's puppet, and puppets did not build peace. They built tragedies.

Deidara listened without understanding any of that, eyes still glued to Kenichi.

Kenichi sighed, then decided to answer the question Deidara actually cared about.

"Deidara, have you ever considered compressing all that chakra?"

Deidara blinked, then leaned forward. "Compress it?"

Kenichi nodded slowly. "You asked how to increase explosive power. When something detonates, it creates a shock wave, and air is forced outward at terrifying speed. At that speed, even steel balls can pierce a person's body."

He let the words sink in, then smiled slightly.

"It's similar to a fragmentation grenade. When it explodes, fragments and debris fly out at high speed, and that is what kills."

Sasori huffed, clearly remembering Deidara's earlier reckless attempt. "This idiot actually tried to test it here."

He put away his puppet with annoyance. If Kenichi had not stopped him, Sasori would have sent his puppet over to break Deidara's hand on principle.

Kenichi ignored the threat and continued thinking out loud.

In this world, there were no real missiles like in his previous life, partly because the explosive power could become so strong it might melt internal metal structures. But Deidara's Explosion Release allowed fine control.

If Deidara could control output precisely, then maybe he could try something along those lines.

After sending a shadow clone to fetch materials, Kenichi explained the concept step by step.

He still did not know how to directly increase the raw power of Explosion Release itself, but there were ways to improve lethality, efficiency, and application. Deidara had developed multiple jutsu on his own already. With proper guidance, he might create far more.

Even the Tsar Bomba had not been pursued further, despite its terrifying destructive effect. There were many reasons, and one of them was that the yield was simply too large to be practical.

"You have to consider the surroundings when you run experiments," Kenichi said, half laughing and half exhausted. "You cannot just blow things up anywhere you feel inspired."

Deidara looked mildly confused, as if the concept of "anywhere" had never mattered to him before.

Kenichi rubbed his forehead.

The Akatsuki usually worked in pairs for mutual supervision. But now there were three of them together, and Kenichi genuinely did not know who was supervising whom.

In the end, Deidara proved that obsession could be useful.

"Amamiya senpai, is this like this?" he asked, hands moving quickly.

He assembled something crude but functional, following Kenichi's explanation.

A simple fragmentation grenade, made by hand.

Kenichi stared at it for a second, then let out a slow breath.

Deidara really did learn fast when he wanted to.
