After praying I sat down, I was provided with three pieces of bread and a glass of water. The bread was...crunchy, a bit too much. It wasn't the best of quality, the quality of this had kept decreasing day by day. Could I blame the bakers? Ofcourse not, it's not like they get money from church, it was supposed to be 'volunteer' work, I'm not really sure if it's voluntary.
I took a bite from it.
Meh.
I didn't like it, but I didn't have much of a choice as I gulped it down. Be thankful for what you got, even though I had suffered a lot in my previous life, it wasn't to this extent. What both of my lives had in common? Well, I was an orphan in both of my life.
There is indeed magic in this world, but I didn't have the privilege to learn it, you had to either work for the government or be a noble or a royal. Why wasnt magic taught to commoners or middle class people?.
Because they feared, the moment a commoner gains the knowledge of magic and sorcery, they would lose power. What would happen if a commoner becomes stronger than a noble? He would thrive for higher position, becoming a threat to those people.
The magic related books weren't permitted to be published to the normal library, most of the books related to them were kept in the National library and academies funded by the government.
I chomped down the final piece of bread and drank the glass of water.
..
After the lunch, I was carrying sac of potatoes on my shoulder. We were given free time after lunch to wander around the village, but we weren't permitted to step out of it. We could play or do something. I was currently helping Mr. Runler, he was a farmer who grew vegetables and other things in his little piece of land.
It was a side gig of mine, I helped him carry the sac of potatoes, I work out everyday, naturally I have a muscular body. But not to that extent as adult men, I was still 12 afterall. I had to make some money for myself afterall. Till now I had saved up around 23 copper coins as of this year.
I was lucky enough to make atleast that much, afterall who would give a job for a kid?. As I walked past the muddy road and old houses, I finally managed to reach his house. It was a two story building, the lower floor of his house was filled with seed sacs and other vegetables sacs.
I stacked the sac on my shoulder to the already towered up sacs of the same kind. I sighed in relief an stretched back, holding my hands on the back of my waist.
Mr. Runler wasn't old, he was a middle aged man, a bachelor too. Poor guy didn't get himself a wife he had tried a lot but I guess he didn't have good luck with women. He was counting the sacs on the other side, he looked at me and smiled, "Good job Alan, you managed to transport 5 sacs from the farm" .
"It wasn't that hard Mr. Runler" I smiled.
"Well, here's a copper coin".
I managed to catch the copper coin he tossed. I thanked him for giving me the job, I stepped out of his house. Under normal circumstances Mr.Runler would carry these sacs by himself, but apparently he sprained his ankle, it was hard for him to walk. Hiring any other to do it would cost him more since his farm was almost 600-700m away from his home almost a kilometre.
He couldn't afford a horse and a carriage. They were hefty. I put the coin in my pocket and started to head back to the church but I stopped infront of a farm, I don't know whom it belongs to but I must say it was the most beautiful farm I had ever seen in my life.
Well, I doubt I had seen a farm in my previous life.
It was covered with muddy water.
'I wonder what crop they are growing'
Thankfully this village wasn't under any nobility unlike others, I wonder why?. This village was called Mur it was at the east of the state of Luina and Luina was at the east of Aetheroin. Basically it was the most eastern part of Aetheroin, if you travel far enough, about a 180-200 km across the Aravan mountain range from here, you can enter Fridgrid, the neighouring country.
From this farm I could see the mountain range covered in the mist and humidity, but it wasn't easy to travel across the mountains. There were supposedly dangerous animals and monsters and they say there might be demons too, this very long mountain range wasn't owned by either Aetheroin and Fridgrid, thus they didn't bother with these things.
There were a lot of missing cases, people who had went into the mountain never actually came back, I don't know if it's true or just something else.
If one concentrates enough they could see the fence by the government, though they weren't any guards guarding , it wasn't just normal fence to jump outside of it. Besides I didn't bother going there in years, due to this specific farm. I had asked almost everyone in the village but I didn't know who to belong to. But it was somehow always planted with vegetables and other stuff.
This farm stretched till the fence. But it wasn't like I could trespass it, there was a strong law under the government, the civil laws has strict trespassing charges and people here didn't like you trespassing there land, they were strangely possessive of it.
I took a deep breath in, the air was fresh and clean.
I turned and continued walking to the church.
