Rain's POV:
I tossed and turned against the cool silk of the pillowcases, the weight of the previous day still pressing heavy on my limbs.
A strange, rhythmic patter pulled me toward the surface of sleep—something wet and slippery was hitting my face, cold against my warm skin.
I groaned, my fingers blindly searching my cheek to scratch at the moisture, wiping away the droplets before I felt another splash hit the bridge of my nose. My eyes fluttered open, blinking against the soft, golden light filtering through the ivory curtains.
I saw blue eyes smiling at me.
Danny was hovering over me.
His hair was soaking wet, dark and heavy, and he was grinning like a kid who'd just pulled a prank. He gave his head a deliberate, dog-like shake, sending a fresh spray of water drenched me further, effectively snapping the last threads of my slumber.
"Danny! Stop it!" I squealed, pulling the duvet up to my chin as I laughed, the cold droplets making my skin prickle.
