Chapter 17 - Not so intimidated

Raven had arrived expecting many things, but the "are you retarded" look Sombra gave her was probably not within expectations.

"I am quite sure that I have introduced myself plenty, young lady."

"You are corrupted… You reek of dark magic, corruption, and evidence of madness and malice; you are almost as vile as demons."

Now that!… Had gained Sombra's attention fully.

'So she can feel such things?… It is either that she can due to her empath abilities, or maybe because she is a magic user…. Of course, there is the possibility that she could feel it clearly due to her demonic heritage.'

Sombra gave a small theatrical pose as he opened his hands and gave a nod, saying, "You flatter me.. Truly."

Seeing her unmoving face, Sombra shrugged, saying, "And?…" Sombra tilted his head in amusement because, quite frankly… So what? Does she think she is the only one holding blackmail material against him?… He had a certain "daddy identity card" against her… He wasn't worried.

"You are no king of this place…. This thing, this heart, radiates pure joy and happiness and love…. There is no possibility in any reality that it belongs to the likes of you…. You took it from somebody… someone that was pure enough to be the true owner of this artifact."

'Okay….. This is quite accurate to what the original Sombra did... He took the Crystal Empire from Princess Mi Amore and tried to corrupt the Crystal Heart while enslaving all the empire... And he succeeded until Celestia and Luna got involved, and then it was survival by pure pettiness until a certain purple-colored pony that loved friendship paid him a visit.'

Sombra's eyebrow started twitching as he laughed dryly. 'Is Sombra's original story this predictable?…. This feels slightly insulting, to be honest.'

'But then again…. What the original Sombra did has nothing to do with him…. He hasn't enslaved anyone, he didn't kill anyone, he didn't try to corrupt the source of hope for an entire population….. He was Sombra; he had his memories, but he wasn't going to carry the guilt of something he knows that he did not do.'

'Superman could possibly hear everything we are saying, although he could be limiting himself… but being careful won't hurt.'

And of course, by being careful, he meant not giving a villain monologue regarding the secrets of the little empath in front of him…. That isn't his problem. "So, a demon spawn is judging me?….. You are quite arrogant to act as if you have any moral high ground here, child."

The next second, Raven's eyes glowed as two orbs surrounded her hands, and she slammed her hands together: "Azarath Metrion Zinthos!"

Sombra didn't move as the dark purple energy covered the crystal room.

The energy didn't seem to target the Crystal Heart in any meaningful way, and if Raven was half as smart as she was good in magic, then she should know that she would have no way to kill Sombra without causing enough chaos to bring attention.

And then the League would ask questions… Raven's eyes remained glowing as she said, "What do you know?"

Sombra didn't rush to answer as he glanced around, watching the magic at work; it was interesting… 'This proves that my magic and the magic of this universe are quite different, although some rules seem to still apply.'

'Silence spell?…. Quite simple, but a useful trick. It seems I was not the only one worried by our Kryptonian.'

"Nothing of importance…. But just as you can see the corrupted nature of my magic, I can easily see through the demonic heritage that you carry….. You resenting it doesn't make it any less true…... Although I see that I definitely have touched a sensitive point."

'Time to use the greatest technique of all times… Known by some as bluffing… Known by most as lying!'

Sombra made sure to give her his best performance of a questioning look, saying, "Family issues, perhaps?"

Now, unfortunately for Sombra, he didn't notice the increasing volatility of the young woman in front of him as he continued, "I can tell you aren't fully demonic…. At least not yet, which means that one of your parents is not a demon."

"I must say, I find it quite amusing how foolish people can be… To think that they thought birthing a child to a demon was a good idea.. What did they expect? That the demon would grow a heart and turn into a family-loving dad?"

"But considering your anger and apparent hatred for that demonic heritage of yours, I can say that it hasn't ended well….. Let me guess, he slaughtered your family? Or am I thinking too little? Maybe he did something worse.. In a way, I suppose they paid a heavy price for their mistake… Unfortunate, but expected."

The next second, a dark shadow was in front of Sombra; Raven, covered completely in her cloak, had grown three times her height, shadows covering everything except her red glowing eyes as she was towering even over him. Her eyes turned red with a new pair of eyes formed atop them, with shadows behind her turning so dark that everything behind her was covered in pure darkness.

And through the darkness, countless red eyes stared at Sombra.

'Okay….. Maybe mentioning a dead parent so casually wasn't a smart idea.'

The sight was quite terrifying… Sombra was willing to bet that any normal human and some weak-willed villains or heroes would have probably screamed their souls out already… or at least bolted.

But he wasn't normal…. His human self may have been unable to handle such a thing and could have ended with him running to the end of the planet….

But the original Sombra was a tyrant that was so arrogant and prideful that he cursed the empire along with himself for a thousand years just so that his enemies wouldn't be able to claim victory.

Sombra fought Celestia, an Alicorn that played with the sun like it was a tennis game, and Luna, who did the same with the moon and was literally the master of dream magic…. And in the end, he forced the result so that even the combined might of them both resulted in…. nothing.

There was no victory; the empire wasn't saved, and Sombra lived to fight another day… although he lost quickly after the thousand-year curse had ended, which… is quite humiliating.

The sheer pettiness of it all is quite staggering…. But all of it came from the same source of arrogance, pride, and hate!

He killed, tortured, and enslaved countless subjects of his empire.. He mastered dark magic to a high degree and bathed in its corruption for decades.

The point is…. He wasn't scared of a teen that he knew for a fact was more afraid of her own powers than anything else.

With a completely flat face, he met the four pairs of red eyes, saying, "I can see that I misspoke about a dear person to you, and for that, I apologize…."

"But when you are ready to expose the secrets and regrets of others, then you should be ready to be dealt the same hand… so calm down, because the only thing you will be scaring is your own shadow."

It was slow, and Sombra almost thought he would actually need to fight her for a moment, but thankfully, the shadows started moving slowly back under her purple coat as they disappeared, while her normal body returned slowly.

"Now that we are both in a more calm state of mind, do you need something? Because if the only reason for your presence is the concern about my intentions, then you should be assured that I have no interest in anything other than taking care of my new home."

Raven stared at Sombra for a long minute, saying, "Do you have a method to... kill powerful demons… permanently?"

That was not something Sombra actually expected….. It is quite flattering that she actually thinks Sombra can do anything to her walking "world-eater" of a dad...

"Depends…. How powerful is the demon you speak of?"

"Very…. powerful."

'Is this supposed to make him understand the level of power by just saying "very"?' But even he can tell that she wasn't going to say more.

"Anything that bleeds can die…. But normally, very powerful demons can be dealt with much easier with temporary results... But yes…. If the right conditions are available, then I may be able to kill such a demon…"

The Crystal Heart is the literal anti-dark entity… as long as enough charge is provided…. He was quite sure he could fry her dad….. or he could use a spell/curse similar to the one the original Sombra used on the empire to keep him occupied for a thousand years.

The Celestia-style method…. Banish things and let it be a future you problem.

(One day later)

About twenty or so agents had decided to leave, some returning to S.H.I.E.L.D. while a few simply had things that actually deserved returning for…. Whatever their reason was, it wasn't Sombra's concern anymore.

Superman was actually trying to keep a good relation with Sombra… which Sombra appreciated greatly; there was no reason to kick a man that was actually trying to give him a chance.

The League did search the empire, or well, Green Arrow seemed more of a tourist than anything; in fact, Sombra even saw him take a few photos as memorials.

Batman was…. Batman. He couldn't really get a read on the man, but Superman seemed to work as an anti-paranoia filter for him, which once again made Sombra almost ask him to stay…. He used to see Superman as too good as a human, but now?… He was on Superman's side.

In fact, if Superman kept being a "bro" like that, Sombra might just decide to ball and do an Injustice route with him if things went south…. or maybe just freeze the Joker in stone or crystals to avoid the matter entirely.

Although he would admit that going full "Injustice" with Superman was quite a temptation…. although he would try to save Billy Batson if things ever reached that point.

'Children are a line no sane man crosses… My grandfather would literally throw me off a cliff otherwise.'

Now… all of this is not important because Sombra has finally settled on a plan, which was the reason he didn't fight this much for the agents.

By tomorrow…. He would have hundreds or maybe a thousand or two new residents, and he would not have to even talk to convince any of them.

They would come to him, and he would not have to advertise anything to them…

Sombra's face showed a shark-toothy smile… 'I am a genius.' If anyone saw Sombra's face at the moment, they would probably have been willing to bet that he was going to kill someone.

Sombra didn't really understand why the League seemed flexible with the matter; after all, he wasn't even questioned yet about the Crystal Heart… Sombra knew they probably discussed the matter and decided on something, but it wasn't his concern.
