Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The unpalatable fruit and the suicidal childhood

Time flew by and the seasons changed. Before he knew it, Leo had already lived in the world of One Piece for over a year.

During this time, he fully adapted to his new environment. And honestly, even a baby's life in the world of One Piece was exciting. Ever since Leo was three months old, Suzanna carried him everywhere in a small backpack, no matter what she was doing.

His mother, Suzanna, was the strongest female hunter in the village. Every day, she led the hunting team into the forest to slay wild beasts. The entire hunting party consisted of muscular, powerful women—each one explosive in strength. Leo grew up surrounded by these lioness-like warriors.

The first time Leo witnessed a hunt, he was almost scared to death. Beasts in One Piece were often more than ten meters tall. Faced with such monstrous creatures, the tiny Leo couldn't even move from fear.

That was until Suzanna demonstrated what it truly meant to "discipline a child." After that, Leo no longer feared large creatures.

Through careful observation, he discovered that every member of the hunting party wielded both Armament and Observation Haki. No wonder they handled giant beasts so easily.

Today was another ordinary day. Leo stood inside the tiny backpack, resting his chin on Suzanna's shoulder, enjoying the thrill of moving at high speed.

On their way, they encountered many beasts. Suzanna killed all of them effortlessly. Even though Leo had seen similar scenes countless times, he still waved his arms excitedly, thrilled by every hunt.

"Mom, ahhh…"

Seeing Leo so happy, some teammates teased her."Suzanna, it looks like little Leo loves watching you fight. Look how excited he is."

Suzanna only pouted in irritation. After all, she had to carry Leo on her back, and the mischievous little guy never behaved inside the basket. After countless scoldings failed, Suzanna snapped. She grabbed Leo with one arm, tucking him under her armpit, and yanked him out mercilessly.

Unexpectedly, Leo enjoyed this position even more. Watching her fight from the front was far better than bouncing on her shoulder. But before he could savor the moment, tragedy struck.

After they brought down a massive crocodile, the team cheered. Suzanna seemed to forget she was holding Leo. She swung her arm in celebration—and Leo's face slammed into a tree trunk. Stars filled his vision, and his newly grown baby tooth practically flew out from the impact.

The culprit didn't even realize her mistake; she even laughed the loudest at Leo's missing tooth.

Angry and embarrassed, Leo curled back into the small backpack. As he sulked, something suddenly caught his attention.

Amid a pile of red berries lay a strange blue fruit. Covered in swirling patterns, its skin shimmered faintly as if it were breathing.

Was this… a Devil Fruit?

Leo froze for a few seconds before excitement consumed him."Call me the Emperor of Luck today."

He didn't know what power it held, and yes, eating it was risky. But the fruit looked so terrifyingly mystical that Leo didn't hesitate—he took a huge bite.

An indescribable flavor flooded his mouth. Like expired yogurt—sour, salty, sticky, bitter.

A truly infamous taste!

Leo's face turned purple as he forced himself to swallow. The look on his face said it all: humiliation mixed with disbelief.

After a long day, Suzanna cleaned her weapons while chatting with Rick about amusing events. Leo had recovered and was now lying on the bed, trying to study his new power.

First of all, Leo confirmed that eating a Devil Fruit did not magically give him knowledge of its abilities.

Aside from the atrocious taste, he felt nothing special. That meant he had to discover its power on his own by feeling for changes in his body.

Leo tried everything. He squeezed and twisted his body until he turned red and purple, but nothing happened.

He wondered—was it because he was still a baby? Or did he eat something like Chopper's Human-Human Fruit… but in "otaku form"? That thought terrified him.

Still unwilling to give up, Leo continued experimenting for days. Eventually, under Suzanna's concerned gaze, he finally stopped.

All his efforts were for nothing. Maybe the fruit only looked like a Devil Fruit.

After the dream of becoming a superpowered individual shattered, Leo began planning his future anew.

Sphinx Island was a good place for beginners. It was remote, and its people were tough. At the very least, his parents were incredibly strong—Leo had witnessed them drive off pirates effortlessly many times.

So Leo planned to train under them. Once he mastered Armament and Observation Haki, he would lead his people to explore the world.

As a transmigrator, Leo understood the importance of choosing the right path. He would prove with his actions that going with the flow could lead to a happy life.

Leo had a notoriously small appetite. He mostly ate and slept all day—hardly the foundation for winning at life. But when he turned three, he discovered his grand plans might end before they began.

Suzanna refused to teach him the Sphinx combat dance.Hunting, she said, was a woman's job. Men shouldn't interfere.

Not only that, she forced Leo to study under Mr. Allen.

Mr. Allen was a scholar and an outsider. He and his son Cluson washed ashore after a shipwreck. His knowledge quickly won over the villagers. He introduced new fishing and medical techniques that greatly improved life on the island.

Seeing Allen raise a child alone, Suzanna helped take care of Cluson. Soon, the two families became close.

Thus, when Leo turned three, he and Cluson—one year older—began studying under Allen.

Allen initially planned to teach only basic subjects. But he soon realized both boys were geniuses.

Cluson had near-perfect memory, while Leo, thanks to his transmigrator spirit, possessed strong mental power, excellent memory, and sharp analysis.

After only three days, Allen expanded the curriculum to include history, legends, social skills, shipbuilding, navigation, and first aid. He knew everything about everything.

And so Leo enjoyed two more years of peaceful study.

Now it was Sea Circle Calendar Year 1490.

Five-year-old Leo had become the child everyone loved yet also wanted to smack. He was too mischievous. If he weren't cute, he would've been beaten daily.

"Leo, you brat! Stop right there or I'll beat you!"

"Haha! Lina, you dummy. You fell for such a simple trap!"

The village had many kids Leo's age, but he loved teasing one girl in particular—Lina, Suzanna's disciple and future Sphinx huntress.

They met often. At first, Lina was shy and quiet, but now she was like a little leopard.

As she grew stronger, she relied on force more and more to subdue Leo. After many failed attempts to catch him, today Lina finally succeeded.

"Hehe, I've got you now! Let me show you how I deal with you!"

She sat on top of Leo, waving her fists threateningly. Leo struggled but couldn't escape, so he reached up and tickled her armpit.

"Hahaha—! Hmph! Don't even try that on me, you little brat! I'm not letting you go today!"

Thud! Leo's face turned blue.

Just as Lina was having fun, Suzanna's voice echoed through the fields."Lina, where are you? Afternoon training is starting soon."

Leo tried to call for help, but Lina quickly covered his mouth.

However, Suzanna had already spotted them. When she came closer and saw her son being beaten, she only sighed.
