Macbeth's team were all around level 5, and they were no match for the werewolves.
But the guards were actively taking damage for them, letting the players attack without stress.
Their damage was low, and their efficiency wasn't great, but the experience from fighting above their level was high, so they were leveling up fast.
"John!" Macbeth spotted him now. He gritted his teeth, but two of the guards were busy fighting two werewolves, so he couldn't deal with John right away.
His eyes moved, and his expression softened a little.
"John, let's make peace. I'll give you 100 gold coins as compensation."
100 gold coins was a huge amount to John. He was sure the guy wouldn't refuse.
Once those two werewolves were dead, he'd have the guards kill Macbeth.
"100 gold coins?" John said with a playful look. He clearly saw what the guy was up to, but he didn't rush to attack.
He looked at the two werewolves surrounded by guards. He switched to a priest's staff and cast Basic HP Regeneration on one of them.
A glowing light surrounded the werewolf. Its HP slowly started to come back. The Divine Gift ability triggered, and the healing effect stayed on.
It looked at John, and for a moment, there was a little gratitude in its eyes.
Did these common monsters have some kind of mind?
John was surprised. The skill was on cooldown, so he cast it again on the other werewolf.
The second werewolf let out a long howl. It looked at John, and its eyes showed thanks. It became even more aggressive.
Suddenly, the guards were in big trouble.
Macbeth glared at John and shouted, "What are you doing, John?"
"Helping those two werewolves, can't you see?" John smiled.
"You bastard!"
Macbeth growled, wishing he could kill John right then, but he knew he had no chance.
"Macbeth, don't rush. This priest's heal isn't that strong. We can still kill these two werewolves," said one of the warriors, hiding behind the guards and attacking faster.
The others had the same idea.
John laughed coldly. The heal was on cooldown again, so he cast it once more.
His Spirit stat was now 20, and Basic HP Regeneration had increased to 3 HP per second. It could stack endlessly.
At this point, the werewolves were regenerating 21 HP every second, completely canceling out the damage from the players.
The guards were under more and more pressure, and their bodies were already full of wounds.
One guard shouted, "Are you guys even capable of this? We still haven't killed these animals yet?"
Macbeth's forehead was sweating. He noticed something was wrong and said, "This guy's healing is too high. You guys, take care of these two werewolves now."
The guards couldn't team up with players. And if they damaged the monsters, even if the players killed them, the players wouldn't get any experience or rewards.
Macbeth didn't want to wait any longer. He was afraid things would go wrong.
"Hmph, really useless!" The leading Captain of the Guards shouted in anger and attacked right away.
Plop!
-225
A single slash hit, dealing over 200 damage. The werewolf lost half of its HP.
Even common soldiers could deal over 100 damage. The two werewolves couldn't stand it.
"Howl!"
The werewolf let out a painful cry and ran toward John, begging for help.
"Hmph, if that's the case, you all die!" The Captain of the Guards laughed wildly. He ignored the two werewolves and rushed toward John.
"You really don't know your limits."
John sneered. His HP was over 600. The Captain couldn't even kill a werewolf in one hit. How could he possibly beat John?
He switched to a long sword and attacked the Captain of the Guards.
Plop!
-1465
A huge damage number appeared.
The Captain of the Guards was shocked. He stepped back in panic, staring at John in disbelief. "Y-you, your damage is so high?"
John laughed coldly and didn't bother to speak. He attacked again. His Physical Damage had now stacked up to 1685.
Run!
The Captain of the Guards didn't hesitate. He turned and ran. His HP was only 2500. Another hit and he was dead.
"Hmph, can you run away?" John's cold voice came, like a whisper from the grim reaper.
The Captain had no time to react. A single sword strike killed him.
[Kill the Captain of the Guards in the Newbie Village, Infamy +10]
A message appeared. It added a full 10 points to his infamy.
John didn't care. He turned to the other guards.
These guys were even easier. One sword strike each, and they were dead.
Seven guards were killed in seconds. His infamy jumped by 70 points. Killing guards in the newbie village gave ten times the infamy of killing players.
At that moment, Macbeth and his team stood frozen in place, staring at John in disbelief.
"N-no, it's impossible. Why is your damage so high?"
Macbeth was terrified. The last time he fought John, the guy could only deal a few points of damage. But just a few days later, his damage had jumped to over 1000. Even a 60-level damage-focused player wouldn't be that strong.
But John was still in the newbie village. He probably wasn't even 10 levels yet.
He didn't waste words. He swung his sword, the blade flashing cold light. Macbeth and his team screamed, then were instantly killed and turned into white light.
A few pieces of white newbie gear dropped on the ground. John picked them up casually.
Plop!
Suddenly, the two werewolves ran to him and knelt down, bowing repeatedly.
John was surprised. It seemed like he had tamed them.
Players could get pets, but those were usually baby creatures or pet eggs. They had to be raised from the start.
There was also the knight's taming skill, which could train monsters.
But John didn't have that skill.
John looked at the two werewolves, who were kneeling on the ground with respectful and admiring eyes. He raised an eyebrow.
"You want to follow me?"
The two werewolves nodded quickly.
John was even more surprised. It turned out that normal monsters had some kind of mind after all.
But these two werewolves were weak, and their growth potential wasn't high. They wouldn't help him much.
"Oh!" He suddenly had an idea.
He was leaving the newbie village. He could order these two to keep attacking Karlove Academy players.
If he could raise their HP recovery over 200 points, and keep them out of guard attacks, they'd be unstoppable in the newbie village.
John thought it was totally possible. He said, "I'll help you get stronger. In return, you help me deal with those players earlier."
The two werewolves blinked, then nodded quickly.
John asked again, "Can you recognize those players?"
He only wanted to target Karlove Academy students. He didn't want to fight others.
The werewolves nodded again.
"Get up." John was happy. He used the HP recovery skill on one of them again.
As for Physical Damage, he didn't plan to help them with that.
John led the two werewolves toward the newbie village. He kept casting HP recovery whenever it was ready.
Players who were grouping up to level up saw the two werewolves and were shocked.
Then they noticed the werewolves seemed to be John's pets. They were even more surprised.
It was the first time they heard of a player taming a pet in the newbie village.
Some bold players even wanted to buy the two werewolves.
Werewolves were strong 10-level monsters. If they had them, their level-up speed would be much faster.
John didn't care. He brought them to the edge of the newbie village and introduced the Karlove Academy players to them.
He didn't know if the werewolves could remember all of them, but he just needed them to focus on Macbeth and his group.
"Remember, you don't need to be too obvious. When you meet them in the wild, just send them back to the newbie village. If too many people attack you, don't fight back. Just run. Got it?" John looked at the two werewolves and told them seriously.
He had been online for ten hours straight, and the system had warned him several times.
The two werewolves nodded seriously.
Their HP recovery was over 200 per second. As long as they were careful and avoided guards and big groups, they'd be safe.
John waved his hand. "Okay, go hide in the forest. Other players won't bother you, so don't mess with them either."
The two werewolves nodded, looking a little sad. They left, taking a step back each time, until they disappeared into the trees.
John didn't log off right away. He pulled out his Basic Artifact Core.
His Physical Damage was already at 2405. That was enough to protect himself. If there were more monsters in the real world, he wouldn't be afraid.
