Chapter 1 - A Guardian Rises

[Cosmodrome, Old Russia. 2114 A.C (After Collapse)]

It was morning—or so the Ghost's internal chronometer insisted—though nothing in the sky supported the claim. The horizon was smothered by a ceiling of vast, pale clouds, heavy and unmoving, like a permanent shroud stretched over a forgotten world. Their dense mass muted the sun to a dull, colorless glow.

Snow drifted lazily downward, catching on twisted rebar and shattered glass, frosting the contours of a desolate scrapyard. Rusted cars sagged under the weight of centuries. Broken ships lay like massive skeletons half-buried in tundra, their hulls split open and ribs exposed to the wind. The snowfall softened their edges, a delicate white blanket over ancient violence.

This graveyard of metal had not felt a living presence in ages. Birds perched silently on corroded engines. Wolves sometimes padded through on cautious paws, sniffing at the old bones before fading back into the trees. But there were never footsteps. Never voices.

Until now.

A gentle harmonic hum rolled through the air. A pinpoint of blue-white light drifted between collapsed vehicles, weaving through open frames and shattered cockpits. Its glow cast eerie reflections across windshields turned opaque by frost.

The little construct—angular, metallic, and floating with unnerving purpose—pulled itself to a stop above a heap of bent steel. Its Light flickered in steady, analytical pulses.

"Curious…" it mused, its voice bright and clinical. "So many creatively disassembled bipeds. Structural failures consistent with blunt kinetic trauma, arc damage, and… my, my. Someone expressed themselves quite vigorously."

It spun in a neat circle, scanning. Snowflakes vaporized when they touched its hull.

It paused over a collapsed Exo, half-entombed in ice, its limbs twisted like wire.

A beam of Light swept across the mechanical face.

"Incomplete cranial matrix, corrupted cognition caches… Resurrection would result in instability and probably screaming. Unfavorable. Next!"

It chirped pleasantly and drifted onward, bobbing between rusted pillars of bent starship plating.

Then—It froze.

A single human skeleton rested beneath a warped hood panel, dusted in snow, ribs curled like fragile ivory. The Ghost's iris dilated in a rapid spinning pattern. One scan. Another. A third for absolute confirmation.

The hum of its core brightened.

"Oh! You are… promising. Quite promising."

The Ghost descended, hovering inches above the bones.

"Biometric lattice intact. Neural pathways restorable. Structural degradation minimal. And emotional potential—ooh—delightfully unpredictable."

Its plates shifted outward, blooming into a radiant aperture like an opening flower. Pale Light poured forth, painting the scrapyard in shimmering brilliance.

Its voice softened—not kinder, exactly, but tinged with an eerie excitement, like a scientist about to begin a favorite experiment.

"Rejoice! You have been chosen. I am Guilty Spark—your Ghost. And you, fortunate specimen, will become my Guardian."

The world ignited.

Light cascaded onto the bones—reknitting muscle, reforming organs, weaving consciousness back into a mind that had been silent for centuries.

Snow spiraled upward in the shockwave as life returned to the dead.

Spark hovered over the figure it had brought back, almost quivering.

"Oh, this is going to be so wonderfully informative."

For the very first time, Spark had resurrected someone.

And it could not wait to catalog everything they did next.

Hey everyone this is Saladin! This will be my first ever book/fanfic I've written and it's completely original. I wanted to get a few things out of the way so you are all informed. I will be using AI to help me with grammar however AI isn't perfect so there will be some mistakes I'll miss when going over it, make sure to let me know!

I'm a long time Destiny player, I was a beta tester actually, man I feel old, but I fell in love with Destiny. The characters, the different factions and lore, as well as the story! (Let's just ignore Curse of Osiris and a lot of stuff after Forsaken. Beyond Light and Witch Queen weren't bad) I wanted to create a story of how I experienced Destiny. What does this mean? Well I'll be going off of my spotty memory of my first play through, what I chose to do first in the game, my first exotic weapon and armor I ever got. How I traversed the story and how I will eventually change it in this story.

Who wants to read about the entire story with no changes? What would be the point of calling this a FanFiction!? Alright I've talked long enough, I have quite a busy life so I won't promise an update schedule or anything like that. I just hope you enjoy the story! Thank you for listening.
