Chapter 2 - Light, Baptism, and the Birth of the Voidborn!

I don't know where I am, or how any of this began. When I first opened my eyes here all I could see was a deep abyss darker than twilight, and more suffocating than the depths of Hades.

Well, maybe that's where I'm at...?

Hell...

Maybe I died and this is my eternal punishment? Sinking down in an abyssal mire full of answered questions.

I'm not even sure how much time has passed since I first became conscious, it's like I just woke up drowning in a Ocean of Nothingness.

How long have I been here? Mere minutes? Hours? Days? Years? Centuries?

What was I doing before all all this? Who was I? Who plunged me here? And why?

So many unanswered questions, so much speculation, so many dark and terrifying thoughts infecting my mind.

All I really know is that I'm sinking in this void, and I'm crying out desperately for someone to rescue me...

"Someone.. please help me..!"

I waited, but heard no answer. Just a hollowed but silent echo...

"..."

I cried out again, "Someone, anyone! Please save me!"

"...."

Still no reply...

Suddenly after a few short moments, I heard a disembodied voice say, "No one's going to save you. Your fate has already been decided."

The voice sounded like my own, but something was wrong; it was dark, and sounded like static trying to be me.

Suddenly a wicked and evil force began to crawl all over my body, it was almost like it was trying to devour me. It was unlike anything I've ever felt before.

"Who are you!? Where am !?" I cried out in a panic.

"..."

No response

I called out again, "Let go of me! What is this!? What is this place!?"

I began to kick and thrash around trying to fight away the wickedness that was clinging to me.

Then the darkness spoke again, "It's futile, there's no salvation here. You're only stalling the inevitable. Embrace me."

I began to fight more, "Like hell I am!"

The Voice started to sound agitated, "Your struggle is fueled by false hope and dreams, merely an illusion. The only fruit you'll be get from this struggle is failure and disappointment. Embrace me and you'll find rest for your soul."

With all my might, I cried out, "Hell no! I refuse to let that happen! You won't take me!"

The Voice responded once more, "Soon you'll realize your vanity, and succumb to the Void that consumes everything."

The Darkness was so convincing, however I just couldn't let go, and I really don't know why. I just couldn't accept letting myself be devoured by something I couldn't understand. Deep inside of my heart, I clinged onto the hope of a miracle that I couldn't see.

I kept crying out as I flailing my body in desperation, "Help! Someone help me! Please anyone!"

"..."

Only a deafening silence called back; empty and wicked.

I struggled more and shouted louder, "Please! I don't want to die! Someone save me! I don't want this darkness to consume me!"

"..."

The more I struggled and shouted, the louder the silent void became. And with each failed cry, my spirit weakened, and my resolve cracked more and more. Despite all my struggle, the darkness was too deep, and the fire in my soul was snuffing out fast.

And after some time of fruitless struggle, I made one last attempt. One last cry for a savior to save me from this pit of Nothingness, and I made this attempt with all the strength left in my heart.

"If anyone or anything is out there, please save me. I'll give you everything, even my own life! Just please free me from this abyss!"

Then the dark waters began to ripple, a loud rumble began to quake.

Suddenly, something marvelous happened.

A glorious light beamed down on me and extinguished the swallowing darkness, my eyes could barely believe what was happening. I couldn't even behold it's glory directly! The Light was so warm and radiant, I felt it reach the very core of my soul, and the shadowy abyss fled from it's presence.

The Light then reached out what seemed to be a hand to me. Although most of my strength was consumed by the void, I still managed to reach out in response to the Light's grace. The Light drew near to me, and in a sudden motion, it grabbed my hand violently and began to pull me up in it's embrace.

It was so very calming and peaceful, and I felt as though hope had entered my heart again.

I heard the Void call out again, "It seems a Savior did come after all. Such a shame, I was so close."

The Light then looked down and replied to the Void, "You can't have this one, oh wretched Abyss. The Stars Above have need of him."

The Void called back with contempt, "Such foolishness! Have the Stars Above became this desperate? To reach into the Void and save a Fragment of Nothingness to be their servant, and carry their Will?"

The Light seemed to grow a bit agitated at the comment, so it retorted back saying, "The only thing that's foolish is you believing he belonged to you in the first place, for he is a Child of the Light, chosen and shining with power, and you will have no hold on him anymore!"

The Void began to recede back, but then spoke to me saying, "Very well then, it can't be stopped, not yet at least. Hear me, and hear me well; from the Void you came, to the Void you shall return. The Void always calls it's own back, it's only inevitable. One day you'll strain your eyes and peer into the Abyss, and when you do, you'll find me there waiting. And when that day comes, I'll claim what rightfully belongs to me. Until then, I will be waiting for you, my rebellious little Voidborn."

I didn't even bother replying to that nonsense, I just quietly allowed the Light to take me away from this hellish abyss.

As the Light pulled me up, I saw that we were drawing close to what seemed like an illuminated exit. The Light then spoke for the first time and said this to me, "You know there's truth in his words, he will be back for you."

I became confused and quite alarmed, I then asked, "Why is that?"

The Light answered back saying, "Because within you is a deep void, deeper and more darker than any out there, and you'll be tempted to tresspass into it. Whether you tresspass in or not depends on you. So I'm saying to you now, take heed and stay vigilant of it's temptation, for great is it's power, but even greater is it's danger. And it tempts all who draw from it, yes even the most righteous heroes have fallen victim to it's vile clutches."

I became even more confused! What did all of this even mean? I replied back demandingly, "What does all of this mean? What do you mean there's a void in me? Just what is going on!? Tell me in a way I can understa--"

The Light suddenly interrupted me, "We finally made it to the threshold separating Void and Sacrum. From here on out, we will be guiding your journey through messages and signs. It will be a long one, but we predict that you'll overcome every obstacle that comes your way."

"What!? What journey!? What's going to happen to me!?" I exclaimed yearning for answers.

The Light replied back once more, "It's about to begin, and soon all shall be revealed. Rise up Voidborn, rise up and fight!"

The bright exit blinded me entirely, and all I could see what looked like a shattered reflection above me.

Soon I saw the wonderful Light no more, and my hands broke through the firmament that once trapped me.

I then broke through and emerged out of the waters. As I broke through, I noticed that I was floating in black sludge. As I struggled to stay afloat, I looked around at my surroundings and noticed a peculiar sight. And with a loud cry, I shouted my first words from my emersion.

"What!? Where am I? What is this place!?"
