CHAPTER 10
> La Push Beach
Bella and Jacob walked along the sand under the grey, cloud-covered sky. The air was freezing, and something in the atmosphere felt… off.
Bella kept her eyes on the ground, trying to gather the right words.
"Your friend… what did he mean about the Cullens not coming here?" Bella asked, anxiety clear in her voice.
Jacob looked uneasy.
"Who, Sam?"
Bella raised an eyebrow, giving him that look that said she already knew the answer. There was no way out of this.
"So you noticed, huh?" Jacob tried to smile, but it came out awkward.
He took a moment to think, breathing in and stepping a little closer to her, almost matching her height.
"We're… not really supposed to tell anyone," Jacob admitted, sounding unsure.
"I can keep a secret, seriously!" Bella tried giving her best playful smile.
Jacob laughed softly, embarrassed by her attempt to get him to talk.
"It's just… you know, an old scary story."
He paused before continuing, "Have you ever heard that the Quileute are descended from wolves?"
Bella blinked.
"What… like dog breath?"
Jacob snorted at her joke, and Bella encouraged him to go on.
"So… what do the Cullens have to do with that?" she asked.
Jacob went quiet.
"Well… supposedly they descend from an enemy clan."
"But they were different, you know?" he added, suddenly serious. "Yeah. Different. So we made a treaty with them."
"Didn't they just move here?" Bella asked, confused.
"Or came back…" Jacob said with a crooked grin.
Bella gave him an awkward smile in return.
"So… what was the treaty about?"
"If they promised not to cross into our lands, we wouldn't tell anyone their secret — that they were different."
He whispered the last part near Bella, giving her chills.
He stopped walking and looked at her.
"But it's just a story," he teased. "Don't take it so seriously!"
He kept walking, leaving Bella with even more questions.
"Jacob… why did your family fight with Jimmy?" Bella finally asked.
Jacob lowered his head.
"It's complicated, Bella. My dad said he'll tell me when it's the right time."
He glanced up at the sky with a sadness Bella wasn't expecting.
"I miss Logan sometimes… We used to be really close. One day everything was fine… and the next day he left. Just like that."
Bella realized she wouldn't get any more answers, so she stopped pressing him.
They headed back to the group, where Eric was chasing everyone around with a dead crab.
---
> Swan House
Bella lay on her bed, staring up at the ceiling. After shaking her head, she opened her laptop and typed "Quileute legends."
An ad popped up — a bookstore in Port Angeles.
She clicked it.
---
> School
The sun was out. Everyone wore t-shirts and shorts. The whole school was outside enjoying the rare warmth… except Bella, whose eyes were scanning the crowd.
"He's not here," Jessica replied. "Kinda weird you're not with Logan…"
Bella pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. Logan hadn't answered her messages. The last time she saw him was before the La Push trip, and that worried her.
"He won't answer my calls… I went to his place, but nobody was home."
"Do they just disappear?" Bella muttered, clearly referring to the Cullens.
"Dr. Cullen takes them on camping trips," Jessica said. "Hiking, whatever. I tried suggesting that to my parents once and they almost kicked me out."
Bella laughed awkwardly, but her attention snapped to Angela, who came running.
"I'm going to prom with Eric!" Angela squealed, hugging Bella. "I asked him and he said yes — I took control!"
She thanked Bella.
"Do you really have to leave town?" Angela asked sadly.
"Yeah… it's a family thing," Bella answered.
Jessica clapped her hands.
"We have to go — the Port Angeles stores run out of dresses fast!"
"Port Angeles?" Bella repeated, a plan forming in her head.
"Of course!" Jessica replied. "We need your opinion."
---
> Forest
Logan walked in a straight line, breathing fast, palms sweaty.
This was probably the dumbest thing he'd do in his life.
---
> Port Angeles — Clothing Store
Bella felt uncomfortable and distracted while Angela and Jessica tried on dress after dress.
Outside, some guys stared at Jessica through the window, throwing vulgar comments.
"Bella?" Jessica called, embarrassed.
"It looks great," Bella replied, not even knowing which dress she was talking about.
"That's what you said about the last five!" Jessica complained.
"You're terrible at this," Angela added.
Bella sighed. She didn't care about dresses right now.
"Sorry, girls. I just want to check a bookstore," she said, walking toward the exit. "I'll meet you later for dinner, okay?"
They nodded and told her to be careful.
---
> Bookstore
Bella looked proudly at the book she bought about Quileute legends.
Feeling satisfied, she headed toward the restaurant.
The streets were darker now. She heard footsteps behind her.
She glanced back casually… four young men stared at her with disgusting interest.
She put the book in her bag and crossed the street quickly, heading toward a parking lot — but the footsteps got closer.
Someone pushed her.
---
> Forest
Victoria, James, and Laurent ran through the night. Their movements were so smooth, so inhuman, they blended with the darkness.
Victoria hadn't been the same since they killed the man at the dock.
That scent she detected earlier… it was driving her insane.
She wanted to know what it was and why it affected her like that.
---
> Highway
Logan stood in front of the massive glass house.
The darkness pressed against his chest; his hands wouldn't stop sweating.
His legs felt heavy — even with his inhuman physique.
"Well…" he muttered, stepping forward. "Only option now is to not die."
To be continued…

How are you all? I hope you're having a great day.
This is the last chapter of the day.
It was easier to translate because most of it already exists in Spanish on my profile.
From now on it might be a bit harder, so maybe I'll do one chapter a day — but I'll try to keep the updates regular.
I don't want to sound like a crazy guy talking to himself, haha.
Thanks for all the support.
I'll be reading your comments 😎
