If I return to ten thousand years ago to participate in the War of the Ancients, I can just fill up a few vials of the Well of Eternity's water then. In an era where the Well still exists, obtaining the water will be relatively easy.
Furthermore, Rhodes was confident that Illidan would give him the water. After all, their ultimate goal was the defeat of the Burning Legion.
"Capurnia, don't forget, Rhodes went to save Illidan alongside Tyrande, the Night Elf leader," Jaina added from the side. "That counts as a life-saving favor. Asking him for a vial of the Well's water shouldn't be an issue. In fact, we could ask for two; it's not like he has much use for them anyway."
The water from the Well of Eternity was the real deal. Jaina had only ever seen it mentioned in the history books of Dalaran, described as a treasure without equal. If the Blood Elves received one vial, the humans could take another.
If Dath'Remar Sunstrider could use a single vial to build the Sunwell, then humanity could use one to create a source of magic of their own using similar methods. As a high-ranking mage of Dalaran, Jaina knew all too well how much of a boost the Sunwell provided to the High Elves. Its power radiated throughout Quel'Thalas, forming a massive arcane shield and nourishing all elves with abundant mana. It allowed them to cast spells with half the effort, and it was even said that the creation of the Guardians relied on the Sunwell's power.
"Rhodes, I hope it's as you say. Such matters are beyond our control for now," Capurnia said. "But if you truly can obtain the water of the Well of Eternity, it would be best for everyone. In that case, we will accept the phoenix mounts. I hope the Prince truly reacts the way you predict."
Though they had changed their name, the Blood Elves were still High Elves at heart—an incredibly proud race. Getting the entire race to rejoin the Alliance, let alone follow orders, would be no easy feat.
"I'm certain of it. You'll see once we reach the Eastern Kingdoms," Rhodes replied.
He didn't even need to speak; to ensure the survival of his race, Kael'thas would eventually volunteer to join the Alliance and end up serving a certain idiotic human Grand Marshal. Now, with Rhodes—the legitimate Prince Regent and an old friend—arriving with a way to save his people, it didn't take a genius to figure out whose side Kael'thas would choose.
"Then I'm at ease, Rhodes," Capurnia nodded. At this moment, she couldn't help but admire the Prince's foresight. He had been the first to recognize Rhodes' value and potential. Back then, Kael'thas had given Rhodes numerous benefits during their trade and had stood firmly by his side during Alliance meetings.
At the time, Capurnia hadn't seen much benefit in it; Rhodes was just an envoy. Who knew how much the Great Titan Watchers had invested in him? Now, it seemed there was likely more than one Watcher backing him—perhaps even higher-level beings. Every sign pointed to Rhodes' supporters being unimaginably powerful.
"Now you're willing to accept these special familiars, right? Oh, right—let me give you each another special one," Rhodes said, as if remembering something.
He immediately summoned two creatures about five meters tall. They wore red hoods and robes and radiated a brilliant magical glow, though their forms appeared illusory beneath the cloth. These beings emitted a terrifying magical aura, as if they were the literal embodiment of magical energy. The eyes of the two women lit up.
These mysterious creatures were the **Magic Elementals** Rhodes had summoned—colloquially known as "Flashers" because of their habit of flinging open their robes to reveal their internal energy. In his Conflux city, the Basic Altar of Spirits produced four Psychic Elementals a week, which could then be upgraded to Magic Elementals at a Hill Fort.
Magic Elementals were a formidable Tier 6 unit, arguably at the top tier of their rank, with combat power second only to Dread Knights and Nagas. They boasted 15 Attack, 13 Defense, 15–25 Damage, 80 HP, and a Speed of 9. At a glance, these stats didn't seem overwhelming—their Attack and Defense were lower than even the "iron trash" Manticore, their HP was comparable, and Manticores could fly. One might assume Magic Elementals were the weakest Tier 6 unit.
But that would be a grave mistake. First, Magic Elementals were immune to all magic. Along with Black Dragons, they were one of only two creatures in the game with total magic immunity.
Their attack, like that of dragons and phoenixes, was an area-of-effect strike. Most broken of all, they possessed the ability to **Attack without Retaliation**. Combined, these traits propelled Magic Elementals into the top tier.
Furthermore, their cost was the cheapest of all Tier 6 units—so cheap that players used to joke that the developers set the price with their feet. An upgraded unit cost only 800 Gold. A Dread Knight cost 1,500; for 100 Gold more, you could buy two Magic Elementals.
"What kind of creatures are these? So strange... Rhodes, I feel a powerful magical resonance from them," Jaina said, observing the energy beings. Despite the robes, she could tell they weren't physical lifeforms but an elemental type—unlike any element she knew.
"The magical aura is intense. This is a very powerful elemental being. Rhodes, don't tell me the Watchers gave you these too?" Capurnia asked.
"Exactly. These are Magic Elementals," Rhodes smiled. "Their combat power far exceeds standard Earth, Water, Ice, or Fire Elementals. They have a special ability—why don't you two try hitting them with your spells?"
The two women looked at each other and stepped back. Capurnia launched a *Fireball* while Jaina fired an *Ice Lance*. To their shock, both spells dissipated into nothingness the moment they touched the Magic Element, as if negated by a mysterious field.
Refusing to give up, they tried everything: *Blizzard*, *Flamestrike*, *Fire Bolt*, *Dragon's Breath*, and *Frostbolt*. They cycled through almost every offensive spell they knew, yet nothing worked.
They shared a look, took a deep breath, and cast the **Magic Arrow** Rhodes had just taught them. Deep blue energy coalesced and struck, but even this Titan-tier magic was useless.
They were truly immune to magic.
"Don't waste your energy. They are Magic Elementals, a powerful form of elemental life. As for their origin, you'd have to ask the Titans; perhaps they come from the Astral Plane.
Their special trait is Magic Immunity—all magic is ineffective against them." Rhodes introduced their terrifying nature. In terms of magic resistance, even the Tier 7 Phoenix couldn't match them.
"You're kidding. How is this possible?" Capurnia asked. "Your Iron and Diamond Golems are only resistant; they aren't immune. But this thing is just... untouchable."
Standard golems could be damaged by the physical side-effects of magic, like extreme heat or cold. These energy beings clearly operated differently. It meant only physical melee classes could take them down—but at five meters tall and radiating such power, they clearly weren't easy targets.
"Rhodes, if our mage spells don't work, what about a Druid's nature magic? Or an Orc Warlock's Fel magic? A Shaman's elemental spells? Or even the Shadow magic of the Faceless Ones?" Jaina asked.
"I said *all* magic," Rhodes smiled. He had already tested it with *Chaos Bolts*, *Shadow Bolts*, and even Holy magic. Nothing worked—they couldn't be harmed, and they couldn't be healed by magic either. While certain physical nature spells like *Entangling Roots* could trap them, high heat or cold meant nothing. (He wasn't 100% sure if this would hold up against a god-tier being like Sargeras, but for now, it was a massive "bug" in the system.)
"Incredible. How is their attack power?" Capurnia asked.
"Their attack is a combination of psychic force and raw magical power. It isn't purely physical; it deals magical damage," Rhodes explained.
"Which means," Jaina realized, "your Diamond and Gold Golems would actually be their hard counters."
Rhodes nodded. In the game, Black Dragons dominated Magic Elementals because the Elementals' attacks were magical and thus dealt zero damage to the immune dragons.
