Chapter 262 - Restoration

One drop, two drops... three.

As Kael'thas poured the small vial containing the primordial essence of the Well of Eternity into the parched basin, time seemed to freeze. A vast, unfathomable magical energy began to coalesce within the pit.

"Woom—!"

A low, majestic resonance—like the heartbeat of Azeroth itself—shook the entirety of the Isle of Quel'Danas. Before the onlookers' eyes, the scorched and cracked walls of the well peeled away and reshaped as if time were flowing backward, revealing the original golden splendor of the Sunwell.

The ley lines of the island hummed in sympathy, producing a deep thrumming sound. Centered on the Sunwell Plateau, a pillar of azure arcane light shot into the sky, piercing the clouds as if reaching for the depths of the universe.

One by one, the remnant runestones of Eversong Woods flared to life, greedily absorbing the radiating mana. The ashen forest began to show signs of life at a visible pace; tiny buds of fresh green even sprouted from withered branches.

"We did it! The Arcane foundation is rebuilt!" Grand Magister Solarion's voice trembled with emotion. Every Blood Elf mage felt the long-lost, surging fountain of mana reconnect to their bloodlines, instantly soothing the maddening hunger of their magic addiction.

For the first time since Arthas and Kel'Thuzad defiled the font over a year ago, they felt the true power of magic. The entire island was shrouded in an awe-inspiring magical aura.

Truly, the legends of the Well of Eternity's water were true: their ancestors had created the Sunwell from a single vial, and now, they had used another to restore and even enhance it.

The Sunwell was less a simple "well" and more a colossal magical engine that drew power from Azeroth's intricate network of ley lines. Its construction had been modeled after the original Well of Eternity—though that ancient fount had been created by the Titans to heal the world's wounds.

It was that very magic that had transformed the elves from trolls into the noble beings they were today. For thousands of years, the Sunwell had protected them; without it, they withered.

But this was only the beginning. Kael'thas intended to inject an even greater power into this magical spring.

"Rhodes, now!" Kael'thas shouted. He held his hands high, guiding the massive arcane energies to keep them from turning volatile, creating space for the Light to merge.

"Infuse the Light!" Rhodes barked. He funneled his internal mana to summon the holy power. A golden torrent of Holy Light slammed precisely into the core of the well, which was already being violently activated by the purple arcane energy!

"BOOM—!"

The two Archangels acted first. Spreading their snowy wings, they flew to either side of the light pillar and drove their holy blades into the ground. Pure, concentrated Light flowed like two golden streams from their arms and weapons into the azure arcane vortex. Kael'thas worked feverishly to stabilize the terrifying holy energy, encouraging the two forces to blend.

Next, Rhodes's Holy Light Phoenix let out a cry that pierced the heavens. It circled the apex of the golden pillar, shedding countless glowing feathers. These feathers dissolved into the column, neutralizing the lingering, icy death energy that remained from the well's previous defilement.

The two hundred Light Elementals Rhodes had summoned resonated in the sky. They formed two massive golden rings, raining down terrifying amounts of holy power to wash over the Sunwell. Meanwhile, Rhodes used his remaining mana—boosted by his upgraded Air Magic—to summon thirty more Light Elementals at a minimal cost.

These temporary elementals served as "sacrifices." They transformed into golden meteors, plunging one after another into the swirling blue-and-gold pillar. Their pure holy essence acted as a catalyst and stabilizer, forcing a deep-level fusion with the arcane energy to aid the well's rebirth.

At first, the two powers repelled each other violently. The azure radiance and golden light twisted like two giant serpents, clashing and producing blinding lightning and deafening energy roars. The plateau shook so violently that fragile structures began to crumble.

Jaina gripped her staff tightly, while Finnall dropped to one knee in prayer, her own light responding to the well.

"Kael, hold it! Guide them! Find the balance!" Rhodes roared.

"Praise the Light! Let me offer my humble strength to this miracle!" Finnall cried out, her body erupting in golden radiance as she funneled her own power into the well. Nearby Blood Elf priests joined in, chanting praises and raising their staves to help Rhodes complete the ritual.

Kael'thas was sweating profusely, his eyes fixed with iron determination. His millennium of magical mastery was on full display as he precisely manipulated the arcane flow to accept the Light rather than reject it. It was a perilous process; the slightest slip could cause an explosion large enough to wipe the island off the map.

Through their collective effort, the turbulent energies finally calmed. The azure and gold ceased their struggle and began to spiral together in a perfect union. Rhodes allowed a small smile to cross his face—it was a success.

Finally, a magnificent gold-and-blue pillar of light stabilized!

The core was a deep, profound azure, representing the pure Arcane source, while the outer layer was wrapped in a warm, brilliant golden glow, symbolizing the Light of protection and purification. Unlike the original timeline where the Sunwell became purely golden (a font of Light), this version maintained a perfect balance between both energies.

The new energy swept across Quel'Thalas like a warm tide. Near Silvermoon, the nauseating stench of the Dead Scar was largely dispelled, and the remaining undead vanished. Redemption had truly fallen upon this scarred land.

Many elves, suffering from withdrawal and grief, wept. It wasn't just the relief of their magic being sated; it was the soothing of their very souls. Prince Kael'thas had fulfilled his promise.

"We... we did it!" Kael'thas's voice choked with emotion. He could feel that the potential of this new Sunwell far surpassed the old one.

The gold-and-blue brilliance lasted a full day and night before settling. The new Sunwell no longer pulsated with erratic magical waves; instead, it beat like a steady, powerful heart, pumping Light-infused Arcane energy through the ley lines to every corner of the kingdom.

Rhodes let out a sigh of relief. This was exactly what he had envisioned. Furthermore, the coverage of the Sunwell was now broader; every being in the Eastern Kingdoms who followed the Light could potentially draw upon its resonance, making their training and spellcasting smoother.

Rhodes rubbed his chin. I should find a place to build a similar fountain for humans, he thought. Fel, Death, and Shadow are out... but Life, Light, and Arcane? I can handle the Light. The Well water provides the Arcane. For Life energy... I'll have to ask the Wild Gods for a favor.

At the same moment the Sunwell was restored, in a remote farmhouse in the Eastern Kingdoms, a girl in a white dress with golden hair suddenly trembled.

"The Sunwell... it's reborn!"
