"So, you turned down the offer to join the Quidditch team?"
After listening to Tom explain what happened, Hannah looked genuinely disappointed.
She had been hoping that with Tom's flying skills, Hufflepuff might actually make a run for the Quidditch Cup this year—maybe even the House Cup.
Still, regret was just regret. Since it was Tom's own decision, she wasn't going to push it.
"Forget about that for a second!"
By this point, the embarrassment Ron had been suppressing with curiosity finally boiled over. She lunged forward, grabbing Tom and shaking him violently. "Turn me back! Right now!"
Tom was shaken so hard his tongue lolled out of his mouth. He quickly recovered, though, planting a paw firmly against her face and ruthlessly pushing her away.
[It will wear off naturally when the time is up. As for turning you back early? No such thing!]
He, Tom, was a cold, heartless cat. (Mostly because he knew it was Ron. If it had been Luna, well, that would be a different story.)
"Then can I drink another bottle? Would that work?"
[If you want to drink it, go ahead~]
As he signaled this, Tom leisurely pulled out another vial of potion. He was just about to explain something when Ron snatched the bottle out of his paw.
Right as she was about to down it, Tom casually added:
[However, the effect of this potion isn't gender reassignment. Even if you drink it, it'll only extend your current state, you know~]
Ron froze mid-motion. Her eyes went wide as she looked at Tom in disbelief. "Why didn't you say that sooner?!"
One second—literally one second later—and she would have chugged it!
[You're the one who snatched it so fast~]
Tom flicked his tail, looking the picture of innocence.
[Besides, you hadn't actually drunk it yet~]
In reality, this wasn't the spiked potion he had given Ron that morning. If she had drunk this one, Ron's gender would have reverted, but her physical appearance would have shifted based on her current form—meaning she would have turned into a boy that looked exactly like Harry.
And once that wore off, the effects of the original potion would have kicked back in. That was why Tom had stopped her just in time.
"You...!"
Ron glared at him furiously, but combined with her currently adorable appearance, she just looked like a bristling, angry little fuzzball.
In fact, Draco, who had been secretly watching from the sidelines, felt as if Cupid's arrow had just struck his heart.
"So when exactly will we turn back?"
Harry, noticing Draco's stare, felt a sudden chill run down her spine. She yanked Ron behind her protectively, though the movement only served to draw Draco's gaze onto herself.
[ The effects should wear off by tonight. ]
Admiring the chaotic scene, Tom felt his mischievous streak being thoroughly satisfied.
"Tonight? You mean I have to stay like this until tonight?!"
Ron looked like she was about to have a mental breakdown. "George and Fred are going to find out. They absolutely will!"
"Don't worry too much, they might not recognize you," Ariana tried to comfort her. "Right now, standing next to Harry, there's a high probability they'll mistake Harry for you."
"I know you're trying to comfort me, but why do I feel even sadder now...?"
Seeing Ron's complicated expression, Harry wanted to offer some comfort but didn't know what to say.
Compared to Ron, Harry actually felt this state wasn't too bad—at least it was very useful when dealing with Snape.
However, remembering Draco's look earlier, her resolve hardened: Yeah, definitely better to avoid turning into this again in the future.
---
Originally, everyone had some free time. According to the plan, they were supposed to go find Hagrid to ask about Professor Quirrell. But Ron insisted: She would rather go study in the library than risk being recognized by anyone she knew.
So, in a very rare occurrence for a non-exam week, Harry and Ron stepped into the library.
Maybe it was because no one expected Ron to be in the library, or maybe her prayers were actually answered, but the Weasley twins didn't show up before dinner. Ron breathed a massive sigh of relief.
Unfortunately, her luck only held out until dinnertime. Despite Ron's insistence on waiting until she turned back to eat, who knew exactly when that would be?
If they had to wait until after dinner to transform, they'd starve. So, dragged along by the group, Ron wore an expression of grim determination as she followed them to the Great Hall.
"Well, well~ Look who it is. Isn't this our little brother—or should we say, sister?"
"I didn't expect our little Ronnie to have this kind of hobby. Do you want to go back and check with Ginny? Maybe borrow a few dresses?"
The inevitable finally happened. George and Fred popped up on either side of her, grinning like foxes that had just raided a henhouse.
Watching the twins close in, Ron closed her eyes in despair, bracing herself for the prank.
However...
"?"
"..."
The expected teasing didn't land on her.
Ron opened her eyes in confusion, only to find the twins circling Harry, looking her up and down with grins plastered on their faces.
Did they... did they really not recognize me?
Seeing this, Ron's feelings were mixed. She was relieved to have dodged a bullet, yet weirdly disappointed.
My own brothers understand me even less than Snape does? They actually mistook Harry for me!
"Haha! Look, George! Little Ronald actually looks disappointed!"
Seeing her expression, one of the twins slapped the other on the back, laughing loudly.
"That's right, my dear sister! How could you think your brothers wouldn't recognize you? Also, I'm Fred!"
The other twin stepped forward and ruffled Ron's hair, his face full of mischievous delight.
"...George! Fred!"
Ron instantly realized: These two had recognized her from the start; they were just acting to mess with her! Why does the world have brothers who enjoy tormenting their siblings so much?!
"Haha, little Ronnie is mad~"
"But puffy-cheeked Ronnie is way cuter than normal Ron!"
"That is enough, you two!"
Flustered and angry, Ron yelled and pounced on them. The three siblings instantly dissolved into a wrestling heap.
Watching this scene, a trace of envy flashed in Harry's eyes. That kind of intimate, chaotic family bonding... she wanted that too.
---
"So, they turned into this because they drank a potion you made?"
The twins crowded around Tom, eyes sparkling with curiosity. "The Cat Wizard of Hogwarts... we've heard plenty of stories about you."
Definitely stories about me causing trouble in class, Tom deadpanned internally, though he remained perfectly polite on the outside.
[Likewise. Nice to meet you.]
"We heard you've got a real knack for Alchemy. We're developing some little gadgets... could you give us some advice?" Fred leaned in closer.
Tom was a bit surprised. This was the first time someone had sought him out for something other than his classroom antics. Though, where did they hear he knew Alchemy?
Still, another avenue for making money? He couldn't be happier.
[Of course~]
He nodded readily.
"Brilliant. We'll leave it at that for today and chat properly later."
George patted Tom on the shoulder with a grin, then waved at Ron. "Later, little Ronnie~"
The two of them strolled back to the Gryffindor table, snickering.
"I don't get it. They didn't actually prank me today?"
Ron, still trembling slightly from the adrenaline, watched their retreating backs with a surprised expression. She had fully prepared herself for a disaster.
"Maybe because the current you is a sister, not a brother, so they went easy on you?" Hermione guessed.
"Is that it?"
Ron touched her long hair. Suddenly, she felt that being in this state... maybe it wasn't so unbearable after all.
