For half a second, she considered getting up and running to him. Then she decided against it. He had longer legs. She remained reclined like a queen awaiting tribute.
Jin Di stepped forward and immediately felt something cling to his leg.
He looked down.
An orange blur was climbing his pants, screaming triumphantly. On the floor, a grey kitten stared up at him with grave intensity.
He crouched and scooped them both up, one in each hand.
"Hm?" He examined them seriously. "Are these my kids?"
The kittens meowed in unison.
"Why are they so fat?"
"Not fat," Elena corrected calmly. "Just healthier. They were too thin when we brought them home."
"Hm…" Jin Di accepted this explanation without argument, carrying the two kittens toward her.
Ice Cream pressed her little head against his hand in greeting, then promptly lost interest. She stared at the floor with regal patience, silently requesting to be put down. Jin Di, tragically untrained in feline telepathy, failed to notice.
