She sighed, guilt softening her expression. "Sorry. I don't feel well today."
"Don't worry about it."
"You must be exhausted from the long flight, and yet I'm making you massage me."
He shook his head. "Like I said, don't worry. Anything for my baby."
"Thanks." She stretched her arms toward him.
That was an invitation he would never refuse. He wrapped her up carefully, holding her as if she were something fragile and priceless.
"Oh, right," he said after a moment. "I almost forgot. I got you something. Wait here."
He released her reluctantly and went to the walk-in closet. When he returned, he was holding two small velvet boxes.
Elena sat up, curiosity lighting her tired eyes.
He opened the smaller box first.
Inside lay a platinum bangle, elegant and understated. A dragon and a phoenix were carved along its surface, facing one another as if locked in a silent vow. At the center, rose gold gleamed softly, with the letters "DX" delicately interlocked.
"For you."
