Saraphina and Lillian hit it off so soon it surprised everyone, no one actually thought the new girl would prefer spending her time with a weirdo, but Little did they know that she was a weirdo herself.
Reuben on the other hand thought it would be an opportunity for him to get closer to Lillian, he has always had eyes for her but unlike the other girls Lillian never showed any interest in him, it was obvious that she did care much about him, that was why Reuben was extremely happy when he learnt that Saraphina and Lillian has hit it off already, since he was friends with Saraphina he decided that he would approach Lillian using Saraphina. Today on his way to school he couldn't stop smiling, he had everything planned already but only one thing bothered him, how was he going to use Saraphina to get closer to Lillian without Saraphina finding out his intentions.
"Good morning Saraphina"
"Well good morning to you too Reuben, you seem unusually happy today"
''Well is there a day that I am not happy?"
"Well you are right, but today own seems to be beyond your usual jolly self, so tell me what happened "
"Ehm, actually I rather not talk about it " Saraphina stares at him.
"Well if you say so "
"By the way I couldn't help but notice how friendly you and Lillian are right now, it's kind of peculiar, no one thought you both would hit it off so easily"
"Why cause am a weirdo"
"Well to them yes, but you know I don't really care about stuffs like that " Saraphina stares at him.
"Why are you staring at me like, stop it, it's creeping me out"
"Sorry but I can't help but wander if there's something that you would like to say to me"
"Say to you, like what?"
"You know, like there's something you aren't telling me yet"
"Huh, what are you talking about"
"I don't know, but am sure you do, so tell me, what is it?"
"I -i - I don't know what you are talking about. And stop staring at me like that, you are creeping me out "
"Okay if you say so, and sorry for making you uncomfortable I get too carried away some times "
"Look I know I don't care what people say about you but that aside you should try to restrain yourself a bit, you shouldn't always try to intruding into people's private affair "
"Intruding into people's affair, so I was right huh?"
"Huh, what are you talking about? Are you still going on about me having something to say"
"Oh not really, sorry for that " said Saraphina smiling. Reuben stares at her silent, it was times like this that he often realizes how much of a pain Saraphina really is you can't even hide anything from her, he wasn't sure if Saraphina already figured out what he had in mind but there was no don't that she was already suspicious of him, if care isn't taken, she did find out in no time.
"Oh excuse me for a moment " said Reuben.
"Sure thing'' said Saraphina, she watches him till he exit the door, then she smiled.
By the time Reuben got back Lillian was already in class and was chatting with Saraphina, ''Now's my chance'' he said. He walks to his sit and sat down.
"Phina am back, oh sorry I didn't notice you there am Reuben'' Lillian stares at him and smiled.
''Yes you did, infact you notice me the moment you stepped into the class''
''Ooooook'' said Reuben ''waw she's just like Phina, no wander they got along so fast'' he thought.
''So as I have said before my name is Reuben ''
''Am Lillian nice to meet you''
''Lillian huh, I guess I will just call you Lilly after all you are as beautiful as a lily flower''
"Are you trying to be smooth with me right now?'' asked Lillian.
"Well that's one way to put it, by the way you can call me Ruby''
"And why would I want to do that"
"Because am going to be precious to you just like a gem stone''
"Keep daydreaming"
"You don't have to believe me yet but one day am going to be your precious Ruby'' Lillian stares at him it's obvious that he was trying to flirt with her but yet she couldn't help it but smile, he has a unique way of approaching someone, he didn't come using pickup lines and being all smooth, instead he just came out and declared that he's going to be precious to her just like a gem stone, he didn't say he wants to be but rather declared that he's going to be, to sum it all up he was so confident it was almost frightening. She made up her mind she was going to play with him a bit longer, "let's see how long his confidence will hold before breaking''
''You are going to be my precious gem stone huh, good luck with that, but I should warn I don't really treasure gem stones''
''that makes it even more better because that would mean that I will be the first gem stone to be treasured by you'' Lilly smiles, he seems to have a come back speech for every word she said. ''But it doesn't matter anyway at some point he'd break, I'll take my time, I have all the time in the world" she thought.
While Reuben was busy wandering how to make Lillian his, Lillian on the other hand was trying to entertain herself with Reuben, that day after class during their game time Reuben had approached her again, "Hi"
"Hi"
"Wanna grab some desert after school?"
"Nah thanks I will pass"
"You sure cause you pretty much need it"
"Huh, how come ''
''Because it means me being alone with you, and that's what I really need right now ''
"From what you just said that means you are the one who needs it not me"
"You're right, so how about it"
"Nah, I'll pass"
"Oh okay, so do you think we can go on a date" Lillian burst in to laughter.
"Seriously, so straight forward "
"Well it's just that I don't do well with all those smooth talking, I know what I want and I said it, I mean you are beautiful, really beautiful and I like you so I would like to go out with you " Lillian stares at him, he wasn't lying, every single word he uttered was how he really feels, for a split second it made her wonder if being telepathic was actually working against her.
"What so ever, you are so straight forward it's almost scary"
"So you think we can go out sometime"
"Nah, I'll pass "
"Okay, I guess I'll just have to keep trying then"
"Keep trying?"
"Yeah I will just keep asking you out until you finally accept "
"And you think just because you are persistent I will then give in to your demands"
"You never could tell until you try "
"Oh really, I guess time will tell then"
"Can I ask you a question "
"Huh, yeah sure "
"How come you get along with Saraphina so well" Lillian stares at him.
"Why that question?"
"Well it's just that many people avoid Saraphina saying she's a weirdo but you on the other hand seem to not care at all"
"What about you, you do get along well, if I say so"
"Oh my case is different, my friendship with Saraphina goes way back, we've been friends for as long as I can remember, I guess I should say our friendship was inherited "
"Inherited?"
"Yeah, my mom and her mom were best friends, also my dad and hers were also best friends, so it's only natural that we ended up being friends"
"I see, it could actually be called an inherited friendship indeed, but what do you think about her, do you often feel insecure when you are around her, I mean do you often think she did try to poke into your private affair or something?"
"No, not really. Actually I envy Saraphina, I know others find her supersensitivity uncomfortable but I think it's great, I think that's what makes her who she is, that's what makes her special, funny enough no one will ever suspect that I of all people will be envying a loner due to all the attention i get, I mean of course I love being recognized, I really love the attention but sometimes I can't help but wander how it feels to be different, to be gifted" Lillian stares at him, once again not even a single word he had uttered was a lie, he had meant each word for word and although he was talking about Saraphina, she couldn't help but wander if he did feel the same way about her too if he eventually finds out that she's a weirdo too. It made her want to befriend him the more, all her life people has always avoided her because she was different, but for the first time she was meeting someone who admires those that are different, it was something that had never happened before, something that made her towant to get to know him more"
"Huh"

"Nothing, it's just that I couldn't help but notice that you get even more beautiful when you are blushes"
"Hay stop that, you don't just go around telling girls that they are beautiful and stuff "
"Oh i see, but you are the only one I told "
"All the more reason why you shouldn't do it"
"Okay, okay. You know you are funny, a minute ago you were brimming with confidence but now you are blushing and stammering and avoiding my gaze"
"What don't get ahead of yourself, why would I be avoiding your gaze" she stares at him dead in the face.
"That's much better just leave your face that way let me see how beautiful you are" she blushed and turned around.
"I told you that you can't go around saying those things to any girl that comes your way"
"And I remember saying that you're the only one I told "
"Whatsoever, I thought you said you weren't good with sweet words "
"Nah, am not I just say what I think, funny enough you would think a guy well known as i am would know how to sweet talk a lady but I don't, I just say what I think, I don't play with words just to make anyone happy, I only say what I think is true''
"Oh really?"
"You could also say that am a weirdo in that aspect"
"Hahaha, not funny, so what are you doing this weekend"
"Nothing that can't be changed, why do you ask?"
"If you are really serious about going out with me I might be willing to concede I don't think there is anything wrong with going out with a friend but not it's not a date, I ain't going out on a date with you"
"Really not a date, then what should I call it?"
"I don't know, an outing, like when you asked me if I would like to go grab some desert after school"
"Actually if you had accepted to go get some desert I'd say I went out on a date with you"
"Wait you mean you would have called it a date?"
"Well of course, it's kinda like going out on a date afterall " Lillian stares at him and once again he wasn't lying.
"You know you never seize to amaze me but still am sticking to the original plan, it's just a friendly outing, not a date"
"So what should I do so that we could call it a date"
"Nothing, no matter what you say or do we ain't calling it a date" Reuben was silent for a minute or two.
"Fine, you can go ahead and call it what you like, but when I talk to Saraphina about it, am going to call it a date" he smiled and left. Lillian stood there smiling.
"Ruby huh? You never seize to amaze me"
