Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Mouri Ran, the Phoenix

Facing Suzuki Sonoko's praise, Hoshimiya Yuu smiled and replied modestly, "I just performed a simple relaxation massage. The effect is probably so good because Mouri-san was truly exhausted."

"Ran is very tired."

Suzuki Sonoko nodded in a serious manner. "She not only has to take care of the housework but also look after that perpetually drunk old man, and sometimes she even has to help that Kudou guy…"

"Oh dear, class has started. I haven't even requested a leave of absence for Ran yet."

Midway through expressing her indignation on Ran's behalf, the class bell rang, and Suzuki Sonoko stopped her nagging, rushing to the classroom.

"Mr. Hoshimiya, I'll leave Ran in your hands."

"Understood."

After watching Suzuki Sonoko leave, Hoshimiya Yuu finally mumbled to himself in a low voice.

"I didn't get a draw count… sure enough, I can't repeatedly use similar interactions to farm rewards…"

This system, which arrived so many years late, didn't come with an instruction manual, so he had to experiment and verify many things himself.

In a blink, two class periods passed.

During the lunch break, Suzuki Sonoko returned to the infirmary.

Looking at her friend sleeping so soundly, Sonoko almost couldn't bear to wake her up.

But to prevent Ran from being unable to sleep tonight and performing poorly in tomorrow's competition, she decided to wake her up.

"Ran, wake up. It's time for lunch."

"Ugh… is it lunchtime already…"

Ran opened her eyes, her beautiful violet pupils still slightly hazy, clearly not having slept enough.

"Yes, you can't sleep anymore, or you won't be able to sleep tonight."

Fighting off the sleepiness, Ran sat up. "Okay… thank you, Sonoko."

"And Mr. Hoshimiya, thank you for the trouble."

After clearing her head a little, Ran immediately thanked Hoshimiya Yuu.

"No problem. I'm glad I could help you."

"Mr. Hoshimiya, we're going for lunch. Why don't you join us?" Suzuki Sonoko held up a pink bento box, inviting him.

After a moment of thought, Hoshimiya Yuu declined. "You two go ahead. I still have some matters to attend to."

Although he really wanted to have lunch with the two girls and continue interacting to see if he could trigger a reward again, his empty wallet meant he could only eat at the school-provided canteen.

"Oh, I see. Well, we'll be going then."

Suzuki Sonoko took Ran's hand, planning to leave, but Ran stopped her.

"Sonoko, wait for me."

Smoothing the sheet of the examination bed she had slept on, folding the blanket neatly, and bowing to Hoshimiya Yuu once more in thanks, Ran finally left with Suzuki Sonoko.

"Truly a good girl. Kudou Shinichi really doesn't deserve her."

Hoshimiya Yuu somewhat understood why Suzuki Sonoko always egged Ran on to find a new boyfriend, even though Ran hadn't officially confirmed a relationship with Kudou Shinichi yet.

After watching the two girls' figures disappear, he locked the infirmary door and headed to the cafeteria.

The midday sun in autumn was perfect, and the vibrant, youthful students strolled throughout the campus.

Hoshimiya Yuu finished the free lunch provided by the school and sauntered back to the infirmary.

His gaze occasionally swept over the students, teachers, and staff on campus.

Ordinary people rarely possessed talents.

Even if they did, they were mostly useless White-quality talents with severe limitations.

In contrast, Destiny Characters had a much higher probability of possessing talents.

For example, Ran, Sonoko, and Kudou Shinichi all had talents, which could serve as a condition for judging whether someone was worth interacting with.

However, it wasn't absolute.

"No matter the world, ordinary people are always the majority."

Hoshimiya Yuu sighed inwardly, unable to help but recall the inspection he performed on Ran while she was asleep a short while ago.

Don't misunderstand; he merely used the System's 'View' function to check Ran's panel.

[Name]: Mouri Ran [Talents]: Lady Luck's Favor (Red), Sixth Sense (Orange), Natural Beauty (Purple), Strong Bones and Tendons (Purple), Emotional Resonance (Blue) ... Lady Luck's Favor (Red): A person favored by the world. Luck value is greatly increased. Always draws better rewards in various lucky draws, and the probability of escaping danger safely increases when encountering it. Sixth Sense (Orange): Naturally possesses powerful intuition. Choices made based on feeling have a significantly higher probability of being correct. There is also a chance to sense unfavorable events in advance. Natural Beauty (Purple): Possesses flawless, transcendent beauty that attracts attention without the need for embellishment, and resists aging. Strong Bones and Tendons (Purple): Bones and tendons possess superhuman toughness and strength, significantly enhancing the effects of physical training. Emotional Resonance (Blue): Naturally possesses greater compassion. Physical abilities are comprehensively enhanced during moments of intense emotional fluctuation, and the enhancement increases with the intensity of the emotion.

Five talents, not only of extremely high quality but all incredibly useful.

With such talents, no wonder Ran appeared nearly omnicompetent. Except for being overly compassionate, bordering on being a 'Saintly Mother' later on, she was practically the perfect female lead.

Hoshimiya Yuu felt an intense itch of desire, wishing he could copy them all immediately.

Unfortunately, the plot hadn't started yet, so he had no opportunity to participate in a Destiny Event and gain the rewards.

"It should be soon, though…"

Returning to the infirmary, Hoshimiya Yuu took out a white piece of paper and began scribbling, using the Chinese characters ingrained in his memory.

"According to Sonoko, Ran and Kudou Shinichi are going to Tropical Land on Sunday, the day after tomorrow. If I remember correctly, the main storyline starts here…"

Detective Conan, older than Hoshimiya Yuu himself, had over a thousand chapters and hadn't finished before he transmigrated. He had watched most of it, but certainly couldn't remember every plot point.

Furthermore, over twenty years had passed since he arrived in this world, and his already imperfect memories had become even blurrier.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have failed to recognize the Conan World upon seeing Ran and the other two, only realizing it when the System activated.

Fortunately, the first chapter of Detective Conan, the Roller Coaster Murder Case, was one of the few segments he vividly remembered.

"I wish I had drawn a talent that enhances memory."

After racking his brain for a long time, the white paper was covered in messy scribbles, yet he could only recall the general flow of events. Specific details were completely missing.

Hoshimiya Yuu leaned back, staring blankly at the pure white ceiling.

In this world, besides the System, the plots he had watched were his greatest cheat.

But now, that cheat was practically half-useless, which genuinely frustrated him.

Avoiding various dangers was secondary. The main thing was the locations of various hidden treasures.

Finding just one would solve the financial problem that had plagued him for so many years.

If he were financially independent, Hoshimiya Yuu actually wouldn't want to get involved in the conflict between the Black Organization (BO) and Conan. Ideally, he wouldn't even cross the BO's radar.

As long as he wasn't targeted by the BO, he was confident he could handle the dangers posed by others.

After all, everyone else, apart from the BO, adhered to certain rules.

Unlike the BO, who could and dared to deploy armed helicopters to fire on the Tokyo Tower.

Now, to acquire the System's rewards, Hoshimiya Yuu was compelled to interfere with the BO and Conan's conflict.

As the starting point for everything, the Roller Coaster Case was bound to offer excellent rewards, and he absolutely had to find a way to get involved.
