Chapter 321 - Chapter 321: The Escaped Prisoner

This could be considered a butterfly effect caused by Yuu Hoshimiya.

If he hadn't intervened, Reiko Kuroiwa wouldn't have been arrested, wouldn't have had the chance to seduce the guard, and the subsequent events wouldn't have happened.

But ultimately, it was Wataru Takagi and the others thinking with their lower halves, willing to sleep with such a loose woman.

Paying the price after the fact was only natural.

Yuu gathered his thoughts, ignoring the wariness and annoyance in Miwako Sato's eyes, and turned back to flirt with Yumi Miyamoto.

Yumi broke free and stepped forward. "Miwako, I can introduce myself!"

She stood before Yuu, beaming with a smile that revealed two dimples.

"Yuu-kun, I'm Yumi Miyamoto from the Traffic Division of the Tokyo MPD, and Miwako's best friend. But more importantly, I'm your fan! I love watching you solve cases—you're fast, accurate, and super handsome!"

As she spoke, Yumi leaned closer to Yuu, looking like a fan who wanted a hug but was afraid of rejection.

Veins popped on Sato's forehead. She hadn't expected her best friend to be so spineless. Seeing Yuu's smug expression made her even angrier.

Looking at Yumi, Yuu felt the benefits of being a celebrity and an idol for the first time.

A beautiful, sexy female fan with naturally high favorability, practically throwing herself at him...

What official could withstand such a test?

Ignoring the flames in Sato's eyes, he pulled Yumi into his arms, immediately feeling two soft mounds press against his chest. Miss Miyamoto was quite well-endowed.

Yuu patted Yumi's excited shoulder, released her, and then signed his name in her logbook.

Then he turned to the slightly angry Sato. "Sister Miwako, you've taken care of me a lot, both past and present. I've been wanting to thank you, but haven't found the time. are you free tonight? How about I treat you to dinner?"

Hearing this, Sato's expression softened slightly. She was about to agree, but seeing Yumi behind Yuu nodding furiously, clearly wanting to tag along, she hesitated.

Just then, the window of a car beside them rolled down, revealing Takagi's face, dark as charcoal.

He looked at Yuu warily and hurried to say, "Officer Sato, we still need to transport the prisoner back to headquarters!"

Sato had already blacklisted Takagi and stopped mentoring him.

Now, Ninzaburo Shiratori was mentoring the rookie Takagi.

Aside from being assigned missions together, Sato barely spoke to him.

But Takagi didn't know this and still thought he had a chance, treating any man close to Sato as a rival!

And the most outstanding one, closest to Sato, was naturally Yuu—his number one enemy.

Takagi guarded against Yuu, but Yuu just found him laughable.

He didn't consider Takagi a rival at all.

Setting aside the fact that Takagi had zero chance now, even if the timeline hadn't changed much, Yuu could crush him and take Sato completely.

Hearing Takagi, Yuu frowned. "You're transporting a prisoner back to headquarters?"

"Yes!" Takagi answered quickly.

"Then the guy who just ran off is your prisoner, right?"

Sato and Takagi's faces changed drastically. Takagi looked at the seat beside him; it was empty.

The moment Yuu appeared, Takagi had focused all his attention on him, allowing the prisoner to escape.

Sato immediately chased in the direction Yuu pointed, scolding Takagi as she passed.

"You idiot! You can't even watch a prisoner properly!"

Takagi apologized profusely and chased after her. Seeing this, Yuu followed immediately.

Behind them, Yumi could only shout anxiously, still needing to handle the traffic accident.

"Yuu-kun! Yuu-kun! How can I see you again?"

Hearing this, Yuu turned back quickly, pulled out a small piece of paper, and wrote down his phone number.

His business cards were gone with his jacket, left with Reiko Akiba, so he had to write it by hand.

After writing, he stuffed it directly into Yumi's breast pocket—indeed, very well-endowed.

"Miss Miyamoto, remember to call me!"

Dropping those words, Yuu burst into speed, chasing after Sato.

Leaving a stunned Yumi behind. She touched her chest, her face turning red instantly, murmuring, "Yuu-kun!"

Yumi took out the paper from her pocket, carefully placed it in her wallet, and stared in the direction Yuu left, unable to turn away for a long time.

"Officer, can you handle this accident now? I've been waiting forever!"

The middle-aged man behind her interrupted Yumi's fantasy. Yumi turned around with a dark face and roared like a lioness.

"What's the rush? I said I'd handle it!"

The man cowered again.

Once Yuu accelerated, he quickly passed Takagi and reached Sato's side.

Sato looked at Yuu approvingly. Few officers in the MPD could keep up with her speed, yet Yuu caught up effortlessly.

Takagi watched the two running side by side, unable to catch up, helplessly watching them disappear from his sight.

Unwilling but exhausted, he stopped, bent over, and panted heavily.

"Are they even human? Running so fast!"

The middle-aged man running ahead seemed to have taken something; his speed was incredible. He kept turning into alleys, trying to shake off Sato and Yuu.

He led them into an abandoned building and ran up the stairs. The building had about ten floors, and Yuu and Sato chased after him.

Yuu looked calm and composed, running beside Sato. Watching her impressive bounce, he smiled and asked, "Miwako, what crime did this guy commit?"

Sato rolled her eyes at him. Just chasing the guy had exhausted her strength; she couldn't answer.

She pulled out her gun and fired a warning shot.

"Freeze!"

The man jumped in fright but continued running upstairs, ignoring the gun.

On the seventh floor of this abandoned building, the Detective Boys were rehearsing a play for the New Year's fair. Hearing the gunshot, they turned toward the stairwell.

They saw a stubble-faced middle-aged man running up, followed by Yuu and Sato.

Seeing the kids and the abandoned building, Yuu realized what case this was.

No wonder Conan slipped away so fast earlier; he was rushing here...

While Yuu mused, the man rushed to the children and grabbed Ayumi, the easiest target.

He acted as if he would throw her off the building and shouted, "Stay back! Don't follow me!"

The abandoned building was just a concrete shell with no windows and a large hole in the middle—extremely dangerous. Fearful of hurting the hostage, neither Yuu nor Sato dared to act rashly.

Yuu had many ways to save Ayumi, but knowing the man wouldn't actually hurt her and wanting to maintain the original trajectory of the event, he chose to hold back.

His only goal now was to replace Takagi, who was lagging far behind, and experience this event with Sato.

Then, the man carried Ayumi to the roof.

Seeing him disappear, Sato chased after him immediately.

Yuu followed, then the children led by Ai and Conan.

Yuu sped up, reaching the stairwell instantly. Seeing Ayumi left tearfully on the stairs, he picked her up and rushed to the roof.

Safe in Yuu's arms, Ayumi stopped crying, her big eyes watching him run.

Reaching the roof, they saw the man trembling as he crossed a long ladder to the adjacent Beika Art Museum.

Seeing them catch up, he kicked the ladder down, broke the door, and entered the museum.

Yuu put Ayumi down and handed her to Ai, only to see Sato sprinting in her high heels.

Running along the edge of the roof, looking completely reckless, she grabbed a plastic water pipe and shot at the connection point on the wall.

This was the tenth floor; falling meant certain death!

"Tch, stupid woman..."

Seeing Sato take such a risk, even Yuu, who was prepared, found it absurd and cursed under his breath.

But worried about her, he stood at the edge, ready to catch her.

Sato fired three shots, hitting the connection. The pipe came loose and swung toward the museum opposite.

Suddenly, a worn section of the pipe couldn't bear the pressure and snapped. Suspended in mid-air, Sato turned pale as she fell.

The children screamed in horror.

Seeing the accident, Yuu knew fate had shifted slightly.

Without hesitation, he pushed off with both legs, cracking the concrete floor.

With immense force, he leaped toward Sato, catching her in mid-air. They crossed the four-meter gap between buildings and landed on the external stairs of the art museum.

Yuu adjusted his posture in the air, shielding Sato with his body while he slammed into the ground back-first. His thin shirt was completely shredded.

But Yuu himself was fine; this impact was nothing to his physique.

Ayumi gasped, "Amazing!"

Conan was stunned too. A standing long jump of over four meters while catching a person weighing over 50kg? That was physically impossible!

Holding Sato, Yuu scolded, "You idiot! Chasing a fugitive is one thing, but do you have to be so reckless? Do you know you almost died just now?!"

While scolding her, Yuu felt her body, checking for injuries.

Sato lay in Yuu's arms, her purple eyes staring fixedly at his face, a shimmer of water in her gaze. Her lips slowly curved into a smile.

Soon, Takagi's voice came from the opposite building.

"Officer Sato! Consultant Hoshimiya! Where are you?"

Sato's eyes cleared instantly. She shouted to Takagi, "Officer Takagi! The suspect ran into the Beika Art Museum next door! Flank him from below; don't let him escape!"

"Yes!" Takagi replied immediately.

Fire burned in Sato's eyes. She shot the lock off the stairwell door, and she and Yuu chased into the museum.

Yuu burst into speed, surpassing Sato and rushing in the direction the man fled.

With his speed, Yuu soon cornered the man in the men's restroom.

"Run! Why don't you keep running?"

Cornered, a look of ruthlessness appeared on the man's face. He clenched his fists and charged at Yuu.

Yuu extended his arm, grabbed the man's arm, and executed a shoulder throw instantly.

He threw the man into the air, smashing a stall door before he landed in a stall, knocked unconscious instantly.

Sato arrived, delighted to see the subdued suspect. She followed Yuu into the stall.

Yuu lifted the man up but found his hand stuck on a thick pipe. He reached out to grab the man's hand from around the pipe.

Just then, seeing the man's handcuffs broken from the fall, Sato pulled out a pair of old handcuffs from her pocket. She cuffed the hand on the pipe and then cuffed the other end to herself.

Blocked by the stall door, Sato didn't realize the hand wasn't the fugitive's—it was Yuu's.

seeing himself cuffed to Sato around a thick pipe, Yuu looked speechless. "Sister Miwako, you cuffed the wrong person. Unlock me, quick."

Sato realized her mistake and frantically searched her pockets.

But after searching her entire suit, she couldn't find the key. Frustrated, she said, "What do we do? I don't know where I put the key! I shouldn't have been so impulsive!"

Yuu paused slightly. Although this was all part of his plan, seeing such a coincidence actually happen left him a bit speechless.

When the Detective Boys and Takagi arrived, seeing Yuu and Sato cuffed together while the fugitive lay unconscious, they burst out laughing.

Two heroes reduced to such a blunder—it was hard not to laugh.

The laughter woke the fugitive. He opened his eyes and pleaded, "I'm really innocent! I didn't kill anyone, Officer!"

"I'm not the killer. I don't even know what happened. When I woke up, Miss Muranishi was already dead."

Takagi spoke up: "Mr. Higashida, stop joking. The victim, Masami Muranishi, lived in the same apartment building as you. She was found dead in her bathroom, and you were sleeping in her bed."

"The door and chain were locked; it was a perfect locked-room murder. No one else could be the killer but you."

"Furthermore, your fingerprints were found on the cord used to strangle her."

"And on the day of the murder, you were heard in an izakaya saying you would teach that woman a lesson before going home. Therefore, a crime of passion while drunk is highly likely."

Higashida argued excitedly: "I hated Miss Muranishi because of work, but I had no reason to kill her! And I don't remember anything from that night. If I really killed her, I would have some impression!"

"Please believe me, Officer! I'm telling the truth!"

Sato turned to Yuu. "Consultant Hoshimiya, what do you think?"

Yuu remembered the case and knew the truth.

Looking at the despondent Higashida, he said, "There might be something suspicious here."

Hearing Sato's address, Higashida looked pleasantly surprised.

"You are the famous Consultant Hoshimiya? Please believe me, I'm innocent! Consultant Hoshimiya, you have to help me!"

Yuu raised his cuffed wrist. "I want to help, but I'm cuffed by this beautiful officer. I'm afraid I can't do much."

Higashida slumped again.

Sato laughed awkwardly, then turned serious, asking Higashida, "If you're innocent, why did you run?"

Higashida looked at Sato excitedly.

"Because I have to go somewhere! My daughter in Chicago sent me a wedding invitation. Since I divorced my ex-wife and she took our daughter, I haven't seen her in seventeen years."

"I thought she hated me, but she invited me to her wedding! So, how can I miss such an important day?"
