Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Guessing Four Magic Scrolls, Unexpected Blockade

It seemed Nolan had been browsing for too long.

The magician named Vara had already come back to his senses, an impatient expression on his face as he looked at Nolan: "Have you made up your mind yet?"

Hearing the question,

Nolan finally moved his gaze from the book, raising his head: "I've made my choice, and I have one more question I'd like to ask."

"Speak."

Vara's expression softened slightly as he took the manual and spoke indifferently.

"I saw two types of magic scrolls for 'Papermaking'. I'm not sure what the difference is," Nolan asked curiously.

When he opened the book, Nolan discovered that the unique otherworldly magic of "Papermaking" had not only zero-tier magic scrolls but also first-tier ones.

As zero-tier magic was unique to the otherworld, Nolan was seeing a situation where the same magic had different tiers for the first time, which made him curious.

Could people from another world develop life magic to the first tier?

You should know!

In the game "YGGDRASIL", the tier of magic was fixed.

No matter if you were level 100 or level 20, using first-tier magic made no difference; of course, the power would change according to the "Magic Attack" attribute, but the essence remained unchanged.

There was some more special magic, such as the third-tier "Fireball"!

This magic could increase its power and attack range based on how much mana the caster expended!

But third-tier magic was still third-tier magic; this could not be changed.

The "low-tier magic nullification" skill possessed by the Bone King and other Floor Guardians in the "Great Tomb of Nazarick" could completely nullify "Fireball".

Therefore,

in "YGGDRASIL", to hunt a level 100 player, one would need to use at least eighth-tier magic.

"Not much difference."

"If I had to say, it's just that the paper produced by a first-tier 'Papermaking' magic scroll is whiter, finer, and better, perfectly suitable for writing."

Vara spoke lazily, seemingly not wanting to talk much about it, while at the same time his eyes looked over, as if saying it was time for Nolan to buy something.

Hearing this.

A thought suddenly popped into Nolan's mind that even surprised him.

Suppressing the thought in his heart.

Nolan pondered for a moment, then said: "Give me one zero-tier 'Papermaking' and one 'Heating' magic scroll."

"And then give me one first-tier 'Odorless' and one 'Magic Arrow' magic scroll."

Hearing the magic scrolls Nolan wanted to purchase,

Vara finally nodded and got up, walking towards the back.

Behind the counter was a wall with several murals hanging on it, and Vara walked straight into the wall.

Under Nolan's gaze, Vara passed directly through the wall and disappeared.

"Is it a magic barrier? I couldn't tell at all," Nolan said, a little stunned.

It wasn't long before.

Vara returned, holding four magic scrolls.

"Two zero-tier magic scrolls, two gold coins."

"First-tier 'Odorless' magic scroll, one gold coin and 10 silver coins; 'Magic Arrow' magic scroll, three gold coins and ten silver coins."

"Total seven gold coins and seven silver coins."

Vara placed the magic scrolls in front of Nolan.

Hiss!

Hearing this price, Nolan's eyelids twitched. After a brief hesitation, he pulled out eight gold coins from his pocket and placed them on the table.

Even though they were both first-tier magic scrolls, the price of an offensive magic like "Magic Arrow" was nearly three times that of "Odorless".

Vara glanced at Nolan with a hint of surprise, but said nothing more. He reached out and collected the gold coins, while also giving him six silver coins in change.

Currently, Nolan had 14 gold, 7 silver, and 4 copper left, which, though not much, should be enough for his upcoming purchases.

Nolan put away the magic scrolls and coins, then turned and left.

Walking out of the Magic Guild's door,

Nolan's mind stirred, and he put all the magic scrolls on him into his item box, while also quickening his pace to return to the inn where he was staying.

He needed to go back and test his previous conjecture.

The sun had already set by now.

The sky had completely darkened. Although there were lit streetlights in the plaza, they were quite far apart, only allowing one to see the road clearly.

Perhaps because it was a border city, there were hardly any people on the streets at this hour.

Clatter!

Clatter!

Suddenly, a figure emerged from an alley not far ahead, playing with a dagger in his hand, intentionally making his footsteps heavy.

Nolan frowned slightly, slowing his pace.

Because not only had someone appeared in front, but a figure had also appeared behind him.

"Little brother, would you like to buy us a drink?"

The figure in front stepped out of the shadows. It was a man holding a dagger, wearing a mask, and dressed in black.

The figure behind also stopped, standing in the middle of the road, blocking Nolan's retreat.

Nolan glanced with the corner of his eye.

The other party, like him, was wearing a black robe, with even his head covered by the hood of the robe, and combined with the nighttime environment, his appearance was completely unclear.

"It seems I'm being robbed," Nolan said, while thinking of a countermeasure.

"No, no."

"We just want you to buy us a drink, and borrow some money while you're at it," the dagger-wielding thief said, spreading his arms and shrugging.

The figure behind did not speak, which made Nolan feel even more danger.

"How did you know I had money?"

Nolan squinted, using the cover of his black robe to draw his short sword, then continued:

"The Magic Guild? No!"

"People from the Magic Guild wouldn't need to do this, and I just left not long ago. Given the pride of the Magic Guild members, even if they were short on money, they wouldn't covet the small amount I have."

"And I only just arrived in 'E-Rantel' today, so…"

Nolan said this, already guessing something, and let out a cold laugh: "You've been watching me since I entered the city, haven't you?"

If he guessed correctly,

the moment the leader of the "Stone" team, Dosari, handed him the money pouch, these two must have seen it.

Perhaps these two themselves were targeting outsiders traveling to and from "E-Rantel", looking for lone individuals to ambush.

"Oh, a clever boy, indeed."

"In that case, we won't waste any more words. Hand over all the magic scrolls you bought and your money, and we can spare your life."

"Otherwise!"

The dagger-wielding thief chuckled, his voice turning cold: "I wouldn't mind cutting off both legs of you black-haired bastard and selling you as a slave."

"Surely, a black-haired faith-based magic caster who can use 'low-tier healing' would be very popular as a slave."

Nolan's eyes suddenly changed when he heard this.

Had his information been leaked?

Besides the "Stone" team, only Barareare's grandparents knew he could use healing magic.

However, neither of these parties seemed to have a reason to betray him.

First, he could rule out Barareare's grandparents. As for the "Stone" team, not only had he saved their leader, but they had also always wanted him to join them.

They shouldn't have leaked his information either.

Did they accidentally reveal it?

That's even less likely. After all, the "Stone" team was a silver-ranked adventurer party, and they had professional ethics. How could their information be easily extracted?

Thinking it over, it seemed only the "Stone" team… Wait.

More precisely,

it wasn't just these two parties who knew he could use healing magic; when he cast healing magic at the Royal Capital Adventurers' Guild, many people saw it!

The dagger-wielding thief's words just now weren't just about wanting his money; they also wanted to turn him into a slave.

Such behavior—

"Eight Fingers!"

Nolan suddenly uttered two words.
