Wilson's POV
Seeing all these unfamiliar faces filling her home, Vera clearly thought they were Irina's friends. Her warm smile found me as she spoke. "I hope our Irina hasn't caused you any trouble."
I hesitated, my expression growing gentler as my eyes naturally sought out Irina. "Quite the opposite," I answered. "She's been remarkable."
Vera's entire face brightened at my words, nodding enthusiastically. "How wonderful to hear that. Irina's always been such a sweet child since she was small. I just fret that others might exploit her generous nature."
I watched Irina for a beat, finding the idea almost laughable. Anyone who believed this woman could be exploited obviously hadn't met her properly, I mused.
Nevertheless, I offered Vera a courteous reply. "That could never happen. She's far too good-hearted for anyone to mistreat her."
