Chapter 1 - CH1

- GENIE -

Anything is possible, that's what my father told me. I never really believed him because I thought that even if he was right, there was still one thing that wasn't possible and that was my world falling apart. Eight years — that's how long it took me to create the life I have today, but it took one text message to tear it all down.

* * * * * *

It was raining that night when I drove into our villa. I climbed out of the car and went straight into the house, walking through the passageway of my matrimonial home, a cell phone clenched tightly between my fingers; the message our neighbor sent me still on the screen. With each step, I muttered a silent prayer, hoping on heaven that what she said shouldn't be true; that my Leo wasn't with another woman.

As I reared into the passageway leading up to our room, I could faintly hear the sound of whispers and moaning; it broke the surrounding silence. I stopped and tried to calm myself, but I couldn't. I clenched a fist full of my dress and I struggled to breathe.

'This isn't happening… it can't be happening'. I mumbled, tears pooling up in my eyes. Since I got the message, I had been trying so hard to lie to myself but it wouldn't work. Nothing could change the fact that my man was cheating on me.

I bit down on my lips and blinked back my tears. From the beginning, I knew this was reality, but still… I gasped, gripping my chest that felt so tight. 'Oh God it hurts so much. I don't think I can open the door to see them. I don't think I can…' I crumbled, my back hitting the wall. I covered my mouth and sobbed. But my sobs stopped as abruptly as they started. I staggered away from the wall and continued down the hall until I was right in front of the bedroom.

I wiped the tears on my face. 'I can't believe I'm crying over a man who is enjoying his life without giving a f*** that he is married to me'.

A sadistic smile crept up my lips as I dipped a hand into my pocket, pulled out the keys and unlocked the door, pushing it open slowly; the creaking sound it made silencing every other noise in the room. They had turned the lights off, so when the brightness of the passage cast into the room, it magnified my shadow as if I was a horror film monster.

I didn't raise my head, I didn't look. I merely listened to them make shuffling sounds while getting off the bed; covering themselves, I presume, because I heard the sheets ruffling. It was then that I looked. Standing beside the bed slightly concealed by darkness was the woman I spent my entire life cherishing, my mother.

My eyes nearly popped, the shock freezing me on the spot. I opened my mouth but no words came. Leo, not reading the situation, spoke immediately.

"Genie baby, em… just calm down, okay. I can explain."

My eyes rushed to meet his own. His ridiculous words so much baffled me I couldn't help but scoff.

"You can explain. You slept with my mother you bastard. What kind of freaking explanation do you have about this?"

"Genie, watch your mouth. Don't yell at him." My mother finally spoke. I glared at her praying my gaze would bore holes into her disgusting face.

"Are you talking right now?" I almost laughed. "How can you be talking right now in this situation? Are you mad? Oh God, you are my mother. Dad just died. Jesus Christ. How can you even do this and with my husband?! Are you even human?! God! I trusted you. I… I loved you." My voice broke me, tears overwhelmed me. My head was throbbing, and my knees felt too weak to hold me up.

"We were drunk, okay. It's just… I'm still in my late forties. The wine got the best of me – of us. We are sor…"

"Shut up!!" I flung my bag at her. It almost hit the unclad woman had my husband not blocked it. I cupped my mouth, looking back at them with despair written all over me. They stared back, but there was not even a hint of remote in their eyes.

"I hate you. I curse the day you became my mother. I wish you were dead. Just f**king die."

My cell phone flew out of my hand, bullet right at her face. The last thing I remember was her head making thud sounds on the floor. I stared at the ground with my eyes wide. The cell phone actually hit her right in the forehead, and she crashed to the floor. I saw blood flow and damp her hair; fear gripped me.

'Oh my God, is she dying?'

Leo rushed to her immediately, knees on the ground. "Bella, are you OK? Bella! Bella! Shit! Call the freaking ambulance!" He yelled at me. I jumped in shock, rushing for my handbag. I fumbled left and right and realized that I had already stoned her with the bag and the cell phone. My eyes went to Leo; he had paled like a ghost, trying to wake Mother. I thought it would scare me, but I frowned instead.

In all the years I have lived with this man, he had never shown this much care for me, even when I was in between life and death in an accident. A disgusted scoff escaped my lips: who freaking cares if she dies? I didn't kill her. Her sins killed her.

I turned around, taking a step back; my leg shuddered. I staggered, almost falling. The walls outside the room caught me. I continued to wobble, carrying my body out of the house. I slipped back into my car, started the engine and drove out into the road. I could feel my heart thumping, banging against my chest and it hurt. It hurt so much. I mean… I was just betrayed by the two people I love the most in this world.

My heels rammed down on the paddle. The speed of the car clocked its limit, but I didn't notice. I was lost in my mind, thinking, 'I feel like I'm going to suffocate. Why would they do this to me? I never did them any wrong." My mind flashed to the blood on the floor. I hissed. 'I don't regret what I did. They should all die. They should both die. I wish they would just stop exis…'

A truck appeared right in front of me. I stepped on the brakes, immediately.
