Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Superpower Out of Control

Chapter 15: Superpower Out of Control

If Jennifer were a sleek, high-performance red sports car, then Edward would be the seasoned driver with her life in his hands.

For the sports car to overcome the wind's resistance, it depended entirely on the driver's precise control at his feet. Edward's long fingers gripped the steering wheel, his foot pressed hard on the accelerator, and the engine let out a low roar, like a caged beast breaking free of its shackles.

"Vroom, vroom, vroom, vroom—"

The roar suddenly intensified, the tachometer needle danced wildly, instantly crossing the red line. The car shot forward like an arrow from a bow, and in the friction sound of the tires on the pavement, there was a certain scorching heat eager to be unleashed.

In less than half an hour, the numbers on the dashboard surged to their peak. An ordinary person would have eased off by now, but Edward insisted on flooring the accelerator, his knuckles gripping the steering wheel with a force that seemed to want to mold every inch of this 'car body' into his control.

In his hands, the sports car became an unbridled wild horse, almost lifting off the ground as it sped along. The roar from beneath the hood grew more urgent, carrying a hoarse note of being overwhelmed.

After some time, a metallic grinding sound mixed into the roar, like the wailing of precise gears operating under extreme overload.

But Edward seemed not to hear, his fingertips gripping the steering wheel even tighter, causing the car body itself to tremble slightly.

Jennifer, this 'sports car,' had long lost its initial sharpness. The car's trembling conveyed an indescribable softness, and the engine's gasps grew weaker and weaker.

She could only close her eyes tightly, surrendering herself completely, allowing that unstoppable force to push her forward, only hoping that this uncontrolled sprint would reach its destination sooner.

Finally, with a sharp screech that almost wore through the brake pads, Edward slammed on the brakes.

The car jolted violently, then fell completely silent. The residual heat of the engine still radiated outward, and the burnt smell of rubber, mixed with a faint sweetness, spread through the air. Wind seeped in through the half-open window, brushing against the slightly warm car body. Everything was in stillness, slowly settling into damp traces.

The night was deep, and the hotel room was so quiet that their breaths could be heard. Edward sat gently on the edge of the bed, his gaze softly falling upon the sleeping Jennifer. He reached out and slowly caressed her beautifully sculpted shoulder, his movements as gentle as if fearing to disturb the night's tranquility.

Jennifer was in a deep sleep, her steady breathing rising and falling in the silence.

After a while, Edward got up and walked to the window.

Casually, he glimpsed three shadowy figures stealthily creeping toward the woods behind the property. Their eerie forms appeared particularly mysterious under the moonlight, and suspicion immediately arose in Edward's mind.

He fixed his gaze in the direction of the shadows, only to see something in the depths of the woods emitting a faint glow under the moonlight, the light flickering as if calling to him.

Edward thought for a moment, quickly got dressed, quietly opened the room door, and hurried toward the glowing woods.

Edward quickly ran through the woods, the dry branches and fallen leaves under his feet crunching loudly. As he got closer, he clearly saw three figures preparing to walk into a sunken area.

Seeing this, Edward immediately shouted, "Hey! What are you doing? This is private property!"

Hearing the sound, the three turned around and saw a figure holding a flashlight rapidly approaching. They immediately panicked and, without a word, turned and ran.

Edward muttered with a puzzled expression, "Seriously? They just ran? I thought there'd be more to this."

As Edward ran over, he remembered—this scene was identical to that in the movie Chronicle.

He recalled that beneath this seemingly ordinary forest, there was a mysterious crystal, and if someone obtained it, they could gain amazing telekinetic powers.

Almost the moment the thought flashed through his mind, Edward didn't hesitate at all. He leaped and jumped into the mysterious cave.

A damp smell, mixed with the scent of decaying leaves, permeated the cave. He carefully navigated the winding passage.

After traveling some distance, a strange light suddenly appeared ahead.

As he drew closer, the legendary crystal came into view.

It was larger than Edward had imagined, emitting a soft and mysterious glow, as if it possessed life itself.

Edward couldn't contain his excitement and slowly placed his hands on the crystal.

The moment his hands touched the crystal, a cold, mechanical voice suddenly echoed in his mind: "Acquired Telekinesis. Telekinesis +1 +1 +1 +1 +1. Telekinesis EX."

As the voice faded, the crystal, which had been emitting a soft glow, instantly turned red and began to flash violently, its light becoming increasingly dazzling.

Edward keenly sensed the abnormal changes around him; the cave walls began to shed debris, and the entire cave seemed about to collapse.

He swore under his breath, turned, and desperately ran toward the cave entrance, the massive sound of collapsing rocks constantly echoing behind him.

Finally, Edward managed to leap out of the cave.

When he caught his breath and looked back, the cave had vanished without a trace, as if it had never existed, leaving only a flat expanse of land and the tranquil surrounding forest.

Edward returned to the hotel, filled with exhaustion.

He walked into the bathroom, turned on the shower, and let the warm water wash over his body. After showering, he quietly walked to the bed, lay beside the already sleeping Jennifer, and soon fell into a deep slumber.

The next morning, before the first ray of sunlight had fully penetrated through the window blinds, Edward awoke early from his sleep.

He rubbed his sleepy eyes, and with a gentle wave of his hand in the air, a virtual system interface, visible only to him, instantly appeared before him.

Edward stared at the system interface, lost in deep thought.

The crystal's energy must have been converted into Gold. Edward weighed his options repeatedly in his mind: should he use the existing Gold for 51 basic ten-draw pulls to try his luck?

Or should he continue to accumulate Gold and go for a premium lottery draw directly? After all, the results of previous basic draws were truly disappointing; the probability of getting good items was way too low.

What if all 51 draws yielded only useless items like tissues and travel-sized toothpaste? That would absolutely suck, a complete waste of resources.

Thinking about this, Edward decided to save up for another round. Trying out his new telekinesis first wouldn't be a bad idea either.
