Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Until Death Does Us Apart

The soldiers started to charge and Shin and Iza. In this world, and in this time most soldiers were swordsmen of some sort. Whether they were vagabond, knights or full our samurai was completely up to the skill set and preference of said man but regardless they existed and the system heavily relied on it. Politics around ancient items, weapons, claims of killing. These were all things the people of this world were accustomed towards.

Izanami surprisingly made a move before her brother. What was once her bright white aura that shined, now became a darker velvet color. It was none other than the mana that she housed in her spiritual vessel.

All living creatures had access to mana. All living creatures were made up of mana. All living creatures mana was inherent to their biological vessel and system.

Therefore, there was no question that Izanami, especially with the creature that she was, could use Mana to destroy her enemies. Her aura started to sharpen before she got close to the men, she swung her arms, just as her brother did earlier with his blade. The only difference between the siblings being that, her aura had gave her hand the properties of what seemed to be a high rotating blade on her forearms, so when she sliced at the men their remains exploded upon impact, easily shredding through them even with the usage of a mana barrier to protect themselves. It didn't particularly matter. Izanami was far to powerful for the average man and by extension the average creature to the point where laying a scratch on her was nearly impossible, under most circumstances at least.

Shinseina did not fall far behind his sister as he used the same technique from before, speeding through the remaining men and destroying them effortlessly. The small man from before watched in silence, that smile on his face immediately dissapearing and becomimg a frown of some sorts. He crossed his arms and shook his head at the situation.

"To think you give me one of the weaker squadrons to handle the Visceral Soul. No wonder were one of the three weakest units." The man rolled his eye and continued watching, studying the siblings movements.

Izanami on the other hand did not waste any time in dealing with the enemy. She flew forward, a common characteristic of all spirits, and met the smaller man's blade witn her own forearm. He had managed to block the attack before it had even reached him. A good sign of reflexes. His mana slipped off his blade as he counter attacked, swinging straight for her head as she leaned back, the blade cutting one of her hairs in to the air before it dispersed, she quickly jerked her body forward, before attempting another slice at his abdomen. The man twisted his arms and blocked another one of his strikes aiming his blade downwards, sparks flying off. She repeated the same strike combination. One for his head, and when that was blocked, a blow to his side, to which he countered effortlessly once more. He rolled out of the way to stop himself from getting stuck in a loop.

The man had already figured out her strategy in less than a minute or so. Izanami was physically capable of putting pressure on him to the point where he would lose composure and he would have to fight back by any means possible, however there was always a clear indication that someone was holding back and that was by the amount of Mana someone used when they attacked, more specifically in this instance Izanami was holding back for the purpose of wearing him down to no energy so that either her, or her brother, could deliver the killing blow to him.

It was an extremely intelligent idea. Izanami had no clue what he was capable of, which is why she never showed any more power than she did just now. It was like a game of cards. She didn't want to show her hand to the man immediately, and he on the other hand had no reason too considering he knew how dangerous the two were off the status of their name alone.

The two had been running through government camps left and right through the past few weeks. There was always talk in the newspaper about the duo, and because of that staying out of the public eye was a serious concern for the two. Their anonymity was important, especially because they were Hunters. If the organization were to be found and caught for their plan there would be serious repercussions. Repercussions that the Gods of this world would have to enforce.

Izanami continued to strike at the man once she caught him again, however, she completely changed how she was attacking him. Instead of aiming for his head or side, she had switched styles seamlessly and ripped at him, the power of her attacks doubling in theory. At least, that's what it seemed like to the small man who ran his brigade. One of thousands that existed im this capital, which was completely ignoring how many they were outside of it on the outskirts of the kingdom and country.

The man watched as his sword immediately started to chip. A startled expression on his face. His heart raced. Not at the beauty of the spirit in front of her but of the malevolence. If this is how she was now, imagine when she gained her full power back. It struck fear into the small warrior, and when you flinch in battle, you've already given up the out come. He raised his sword once more but the next blow completely shattered the blade into pieces in front of him.

The man stood in front of her, unable to move. Not because of some battle plan, or because he was stuck in fear, or because he was in awe of the beautiful women in front of him, but because he could only imagine what had just happened to him. As he looked down, a large gash lied on his chest, with pieces of broken armor melting and hanging off off of him from breast to breast. He had thought to himself in that moment how he wished he never had the eyes to see such a thing done to him.

Perhaps it was God, or it was the universe, or maybe even fate itself that answered his call, at that moment everything went pitch black for him. Had he died already? Had he been crushed so easily? He could still feel everything while standing. Maybe facing the Visceral Soul was simply something that existed in his imagination.

If only it was.

Izanami had used her mana and her hand to cut the sergeants eyes out, which lied somewhere beneath her feet. It was delayed, but the general let out a very loud scream. One that echoed just like the boots of his men.

At that moment he was met with nothing but a revelation in his philosophical ideals, something that was cliche of a man before his death. He no longer wanted to be apart of that government. He no longer wanted to feel that pain. He no longer wanted to feel that suffering.

However, we have no choice in our fate. We simply obey it until our pitiful end.

Izanami made two final slashes in succession as the man's torso disconnected from his lower body, his disconnected vessel slamming onto the ground. Izanami watched silently as the rain fell on both her and her brother, and the men that they slaughtered in less than five minutes. Izanami had considered what she could do with these creatures, considering another meal. However, something about that man gave her a disgusting feeling. Something about him was rotten to her just as the government was. Obviously he was apart of them and that was apart of her disgust but her feelings were far more peculiar than that. Her brother walked back to her.

"Nothing like when we were children, huh?" She spoke in a solemn tone, turning from all the massacre and bloodshed behind them.

"No. No it isn't." Shin spoke back. Cold in his time. He couldn't help but start to clean his blade again. A silence fell on the two. Izanami didn't wait another second to speak.

"We should probably report back to the boss and get our next mission. Everyday were closer to getting vengeance over our past selves." She started to power down, her aura dissapearing.

"There is no vengeance until I become stronger than him. There is no vengeance until I kill him." For the first time in the day, Shinseina showed emotion. One of a boiling anger. He was very good at hiding it from his sister, but things had changed once she brought up their past, even if vaguely.

"Oh Shinseina." Izanami floated close to him, putting her hand on his face. She looked him in the eyes, a sadness meeting Shin's anger. A complete juxtaposition. A complete opposite.

"Please let it go and have a great night."

She dissapeared into his necklace, fading from existence. The cold air met the lonely man. He began walking forward, placing his sword back on his side. He kept his gaze down, not wanting to look at the world for another second.
