Chapter 17 - Run Toward the Storm (Final Chapter)

The Wind Spine floated before Aru like the world's most terrifying running track.

A spiraling bridge of thin air and glowing wind threads stretched across the sky. Below it, endless blue. Above it, storm clouds boiling with violet lightning.

And somewhere inside that storm…

The Voidbreaker lurked.

Hunting him.

Aru swallowed."Okay. This is fine. Totally fine. Definitely not about to run across a bridge that doesn't exist."

Zara squeezed his shoulder."Hey. You're ready."

Tiko nodded. "I BELIEVE IN YOU. AND PLEASE DON'T DIE BECAUSE THEN I WILL FEEL CRUSHED."

Rella smiled softly. "Run with your heart. Not your fear."

Bolo placed a hoof on Aru's back."You are Aru. You run. That is what you do."

General Galeon approached, armor glinting with stormlight."Aru… are you prepared?"

Aru looked at the swirling storm where the Voidbreaker was awakening.

Prepared?

Probably not.

But ready?

He took a breath.

"Yes."

Galeon unsheathed a glowing sky-forged blade."Then the Council grants you the mark of the Skylands."

Elder Iridia raised her staff. Wind symbols circled Aru, marking him with glowing trails.

"Aru, Golden Runner. The Skylands runs with you."

And then—

The horizon exploded.

A vortex of darkness ripped open the clouds.

Two massive eyes—purple as lightning—snapped open.

The Voidbreaker roared. The Wind Spine shook.

Tiko screamed, "IT'S HUGE! WHY IS IT THAT HUGE!?"

Bolo shouted, "NO ONE SAID IT WOULD BE THAT BIG! THAT'S AGAINST NATURE!"

Zara whispered, "Aru… go."

Aru felt his heart racing.

His legs humming.

His wrapping glowing.

He stepped toward the Wind Spine.

The sky rumbled.

A gust of golden wind lifted him.

And then—

He ran.

The Chase Begins

The Voidbreaker surged toward him, a tidal wave of shadow and wind.

Aru sprinted across the Wind Spine. The sky platforms appeared beneath his hooves in ripples of glowing light. Behind him, the storm roared.

Lightning forked.Clouds imploded.Wind howled as though the world itself was screaming.

Aru pushed harder.

His legs blurred into golden streaks.

The wind wrapped around him like a cloak.

"Aru! Don't slow down!" Zara yelled from the distant sky barge following him.

"I'M NOT SLOWING DOWN! THIS IS MY MAXIMUM PANIC SPEED!" he screamed back.

The Voidbreaker lunged.

Aru leaped over a collapsing wind gap.

He landed on a spiraling air path that twisted upward like a corkscrew.

The monster snapped at his heels.

But he kept running.

Running not away—

But forward.

Toward the Skyforge.

Toward hope.

Toward purpose.

Skyforge — The Final Stand

Ahead, the Skyforge glowed like a burning star—a floating island of molten cloudstone and ancient machinery.

Galeon shouted from the sky barge,"Bring it closer! We need it inside the containment ring!"

Aru yelled, "WORKING ON IT!"

The Voidbreaker lunged again—

Aru dodged—barely—

The shockwave sent wind platforms scattering like feathers.

Aru fell—

"NO!" Zara screamed.

But Aru wasn't done.

In mid-air, his wrappings glowed bright gold—Wind surged upward beneath him—And he blasted back onto the Spine.

The Voidbreaker's jaws snapped shut where he'd been a second earlier.

Tiko cried, "HE'S DOING IT! HE'S DOING IT!"

Rella clasped her hands together. "Stay focused, Aru."

Bolo wiped tears. "Such bravery… such running…"

Aru shouted, "Everyone stop giving emotional commentary!"

The Skyforge Rings Activate

As Aru sprinted through the Skyforge gates, ancient runes ignited.

Massive circular rings of glowing energy rose from the ground, spinning faster and faster.

Iridia raised her staff.

"NOW, ARU! BRING IT INSIDE!"

The Voidbreaker smashed through the Skyforge walls, storm energy spiraling around its enormous form. Its roar shook the entire island.

Aru leaped across the final gap—

Wind burst beneath him—

And he landed in the center of the containment ring.

The Voidbreaker lunged.

Its jaws wide.

Its eyes blazing.

Aru closed his eyes.

Not from fear…

But focus.

He remembered Whiskblade's words:

"Motion through fear."

Aru lifted his hoof.

The golden Flow burst out of him like a sun.

The Voidbreaker slammed into the containment field—

And the Skyforge activated.

The Binding

Light.

Wind.

Energy.

The storm shrieked as the rings spun faster, forming a vortex around the Voidbreaker.

Galeon swung his blade into the activation pillar.

Zara pulled the wind lever.

Rella channeled healing energy into the forge core.

Bolo sat on Tiko so he wouldn't faint.

And Aru stood his ground.

The wind ripped at him.Lightning exploded around him.The Voidbreaker fought against the cage—roaring, snapping, thrashing—

But Aru didn't move.

The Flow surged through him, stabilizing the rings.

His legs glowed like golden fire.

His hooves cracked the air itself.

He screamed with everything he had:

"STAY—DOWN!"

The Skyforge exploded with light.

The Voidbreaker roared—louder than thunder—

And then—

Silence.

The storm collapsed.

The monster froze.

And slowly…

Dissolved into harmless glowing mist.

Aru collapsed to his knees, breathing hard.

Zara rushed to catch him."You did it… Aru… you DID IT!"

He smiled weakly."Did I…? Or did I… hallucinate… the last… three minutes…"

Tiko hugged him."You saved the Skylands! I am naming my future children after you!"

Rella smiled warmly."You found the Flow."

Bolo sobbed. "SO BEAUTIFUL… LIKE A SNACK THAT SAVED THE WORLD."

Galeon stepped forward and bowed deeply.

"Aru. Today, you outran a storm."

Iridia touched Aru's head with her staff.

"The Skylands owes you its life."

Aru felt tears gather at his eyes.

"I… I just ran."

Zara whispered,"No. You chose to run forward."

The Return

A week later, after celebrations, feasts, sky-parades, and Tiko fainting from altitude sickness twice, Aru and his friends prepared to leave the Skylands.

Iridia gifted Aru a sky medal.

Galeon gave Zara a Skylands blade.

Bolo was given an award for "Outstanding Emotional Support and Snack Resilience."

Tiko was given a pair of "Wind Earmuffs for Nervous Squirrels."

Rella received a Celestial Healer's ribbon.

And Aru…Aru received a new title carved in sky metal:

Aru the Golden Runner — Friend of the Skylands.

As they boarded the cloud ferry home, the wind whispered around Aru like an old friend.

Zara nudged him. "So… what now?"

Aru grinned.

"We go home."

Tiko cheered. "TO THE FOREST!"

Rella smiled. "To peace."

Bolo raised a snack. "To snacks!"

Aru placed a hoof on the railing.

"And if danger comes again…"

His wrappings glowed softly.

"We run forward."

The cloud ferry sailed through the sky as the Skylands shone behind them.

Aru inhaled the cool wind.

He wasn't just fast anymore.

He wasn't just lucky.

He wasn't just running away.

He had found purpose.

He had found courage.

And most importantly—

He had found who he truly was.

A runner.A protector.A hero.
