What is magic ?
Magic is the most fundamental element of life most scholars believe that it is of equal if not more importance that physics as with magic physics can be defied. Though all scholars agree that magic and all that is life is deeply connected.
Biology ,for example, tells us that all living things have a mana channel, this mana channel is connected to all major organs helping to boost and even power some organs in the stead of blood.
On the continent, there are only two surviving intelligent species Homo sapiens and Homo Arcanids. The difference used to justify the separation of species between the two are the activation of mana.
Though all living things have mana and mana channels activating or awakening them is a separate conversation.
20,000 years ago, humanity faced a calamity the earth began to gain more and more mana, to this day it was unclear what caused this phenomenon.
15,000 years ago exactly 5000 years of mana being absorbed by the earth things began to change.
This change is called "The Leap" from the leap a change began. Animals evolved strangely and quickly, some changed sizes , others gained intelligence but all gained the ability to utilise "mana". Lizards evolved into dragons, they could summon lighting and breathe fire. Sharks evolved into Megalodons able to use water and frost (ice). Plants adapted too, some gain intelligence, others gained longevity. Rarer plants are now characterised as treasures able to increase mana or even lifespan.
Humans didn't lack behind either, a separate organ was formed called the mana organ, I know not a creative name the guy who named it was probably lazy. Before the separation of the two species, activating or more aptly called "awakening" this organ was believed to be based of high emotional reactions. For example near death experiences or witnessing the death of a loved one. Awakening was often a turbulent experience, before the standardisation of awakening by the association, people often hid their awakening out of fear of ostracism and persecution.
My fellow reader you have to understand back then awakening was a rare often miraculous experience which ,if you were a commoner could cement a painful death by people jealous and envious of your powers. Often , rightfully, these awakened individuals fought back against their perpetrators leading to further fear and segregation of awakened individuals.
This lead to a separate community of awakened individuals coming together and created their own nation, Gyestrum. The first magical nation. They called themselves the arcanids and realised the power they hold were not cursed but blessings. They rightfully viewed themselves as superior beings and began to scheme on how to establish that.
Awakening lead to a general improvement in one's constitution (and to the jealousy of many improved one's looks and appearance) such as a higher metabolism,increased lifespan, stronger bones and immunity to most diseases.
They used their improved looks and better physique to approach nobles and coerced them through seduction or blackmail to wed with arcanid men and women. Soon most of the nobles were arcanids or children of arcanids , they funnelled the wealth towards Gyestrum and often gave land and wed with the nobles of Gyestrum too.
This help solidify Gyestrum's legitimacy and influence. As Arcanids have stronger constitution most children born of an arcanid and a Homo sapiens lead to the child's genes being throughly dominated by arcanid genes. This on top of the fact that arcanid women often birth 3 or more children in 5 months with high survival rate less than 2000 years later. Society was dominated by arcanids in a 75-25 ration.
Soon the global population reached 40 billion, an unimaginable number. With multiple magical dynasty's or magical democracies. Though most arcanids at the time believed they were the protectors of humanity and it was their duty to protect those without powers some factions of the conservative hawk factions believed they were the superior species and that the Homo sapiens should just be subservient to arcanids and pay for the persecution in the early days
Though most liberals and leftists factions and countries didn't publicly state that agreement with this view, it was clear they had held on to the superiority belief. Even in the most liberal countries discrimination among species was evident some conservative countries even ban the entry of Homo sapiens and were actively removing them from their country.
