Chapter 9 - Behind the Back

JAY-JAY POV

I woke up earlier than normal and went to shower.

After showering, I stood in front of the mirror, staring at myself.

Today I did my make‑up—mascara, lip gloss, blush, the works.

Why?

I don't know.

I normally do make‑up, but today I went extra.

When I went downstairs, Percy was already there, fussing with his shirt and hair like he was about to walk into a movie premiere.

"Percy… Why do you look like you're going on a date?" I asked, raising a brow.

"Because he is, he hasn't stopped talking about it since last night," Felix said, stumbling out of his room with messy hair, grabbing a piece of toast like he was half‑asleep.

His uniform was half‑buttoned, tie dangling loose around his neck like he'd lost a fight with it.

"Really? And you didn't tell me?" I asked Percy, narrowing my eyes.

Percy puffed his chest, flashing that smug grin.

"I was gonna, but you were sleeping, and I didn't want to ruin my baby sistah's beauty sleep." He reached out and grabbed my cheeks like I was five.

I quickly pulled his hands away, glaring.

He is gonna ruin my beauty one day.

"Who is the girl?" I asked, my eyes narrowing with curiosity.

Percy puffed his chest, flashing that smug grin. "Honey Bee Rider," he declared, like it was the most important name in the world.

I blinked. "Honey Bee Rider… as in Keifer's secretary?"

Percy nodded proudly, like he'd just announced royalty.

"What is wrong with you?" I yelled, throwing my hands up. "I swear to god, just yesterday you said you didn't like her!"

Percy shrugged, smoothing his hair in the mirror. "That was last month."

Felix nearly choked on his toast, laughing. "Percy, you change your mind faster than you change your shirts."

Percy gasped, pointing at Felix with all the drama of a stage actor. "Excuse me! Love is a journey, Felix. A man of my caliber evolves. Yesterday was dislike, today is destiny!"

I groaned, throwing my hands up. "Save me from him before I lose my mind."

Grabbing my bag, I headed toward the door. "Anyways, I've got a meeting with Section B. Don't wait up—I won't be back until eight o'clock, maybe later."

Felix trailed after me, his bag barely hanging on one shoulder "Jay, can you give me a ride to school? Percy can't—he's too busy with his so‑called date."

I nodded, sliding into the driver's seat, I adjusted the mirror while Felix plopped down in the passenger seat

I started the car, the low hum filling the silence between us.

For a while, neither of us spoke.

The quiet pressed down, heavy, almost awkward.

Felix shifted in the passenger seat, fiddling with the strap of his bag.

His messy hair stuck up in every direction

Finally, he sighed, turning toward me with wide eyes.

"Jay… please talk to us," Felix said, his voice soft, almost pleading.

I glanced at him, raising a brow. "Us? Felix, it's just you sitting there."

He grinned sheepishly, shrugging. "Yeah, but Section E is always with me. So when I say 'us,' I mean me… and them."

I rolled my eyes at him

"Jay, I know what we did was wrong but… please na," Felix said, his voice softer now, almost pleading.

I stayed silent, staring straight ahead, the steering wheel tight in my grip.

"Jay, the only reason I got involved in the plan was because when I found out you were Aries' sister, I was so mad. Back then, I thought Aries was the reason Percy died… and I wanted to get back at him," he explained, his words tumbling out fast, desperate.

"So you thought to get revenge through me ?" I asked, my voice sharp, cutting through the air.

"No, it wasn't like that—" Felix started, panic flashing in his eyes.

"You guys didn't hurt Aries, Felix. You hurt me." My voice cracked, tears already forming but I forced them back.

"Do you know how many times I cried because of what you guys did? How many nights I couldn't even sleep that I had to—" I stopped myself, biting down hard on the words before they escaped.

The silence that followed was heavy, suffocating.

Felix's face fell, guilt written all over him.

He opened his mouth, then closed it again, like he couldn't find the right words.

I shook my head, whispering, "And the worst part was knowing you and Ci‑n were involved in it… because I looked at you guys like my brothers."

Felix froze, his toast forgotten in his lap. His eyes widened, guilt flashing across his face.

"Jay…" he started, his voice trembling, "I didn't mean for it to feel like that. I swear, I never wanted to hurt you."

I clenched the steering wheel tighter, my chest burning. "But you did. You broke something I can't fix. I trusted you, Felix. I trusted Ci‑n. And you both threw that away."

Felix leaned forward, desperation in his tone. "I was angry, Jay. I was desperate and wanted to get back at Aries."

"Stop using Aries as an excuse," I snapped, my voice trembling with fury. "Maybe if you actually asked Aries what happened, you would know the truth instead of blaming him blindly."

The silence that followed was heavy, suffocating.

I pulled the car into the driveway and stopped, my hands still gripping the wheel like I was holding myself together.

Felix sat frozen in the passenger seat, his messy hair falling into his eyes, guilt written all over his face.

He opened his mouth, then closed it again, like the words he wanted to say weren't enough.

I exhaled sharply, pushing the door open.

"We're here," I muttered, stepping out before he could answer.

He froze, his shoulders slumping as if the weight of my words pressed down on him.

His messy hair fell into his eyes, and for once, he didn't try to joke or deflect.

"I'll give you all the time you need," he whispered, almost to himself. "I just… don't want to lose you completely."

I turned away, blinking back the sting in my eyes.

The school courtyard buzzed with laughter and chatter, but between us, the silence was heavier than anything.

I walked ahead, forcing my steps to stay steady, while Felix lingered behind, guilt shadowing his every move.

was about to enter Section B when I met Aries downstairs.

"Good morning, Aris," I said, smiling.

"Morning, Jay," he replied, his tone steady but his eyes flicking toward Felix.

Felix froze, like he already had the clue, then slipped quietly into Section B without a word.

"What is it?" I asked, my smile fading.

Aries exhaled, his voice low. "Jay… I don't know exactly, but I feel like Section A is doing something behind my back. And I know it involves you and Section B. So watch out."

My brows furrowed. "But aren't you the president? How do you not know what's happening in your own section?"

His jaw tightened. "Jay, you know after the fight with Mykle everything got… messed up. Section A is split in half, but we didn't tell anyone because it would ruin our reputation as Section A."

The words hit me hard. A split section. Secrets. And now, danger circling closer.

"So, please… watch out," he said, pulling me into a hug.

I nodded against his shoulder. "Thank you."

He pulled back, his expression softening. "Mama wants to see you. When can you come?"

"Maybe over the weekend," I said, sighing. "This week's schedule is busy."

He nodded, his usual calm returning. "Alright. Bye, take care."

"You take care too," I said to Aries, managing a small smile.

He gave me one last look, the kind that carried more meaning than words, before turning and heading down the hall.

I stepped inside Section B.

"Pres, did Aries talk to you?" Caleb asked, his normal playfulness gone, his tone serious.

I nodded once.

"Good," Ben said, leaning forward, his expression tight. "We need to discuss this properly"

The room grew heavier, my classmates exchanging uneasy glances.

Even Section E, usually loud and chaotic, quieted down.

Their laughter faded, their jokes cut short as they caught sight of my worried face.

Mia crossed her arms. "If Aries himself feels something's wrong, then it's bigger than we thought."

Olivia added, "Jay, Section B is also involved in it too."

"I know," I said, sighing, the weight of it pressing down on me.

"We don't know what Section A is planning, so for now, stay calm. We'll discuss this in our meeting today," I told Section B firmly.

"Jay… are you in trouble?" Ci‑n asked, his usual sarcastic tone gone, replaced with something sharper—concern.

I turned to face Section E, my voice steady but commanding. "Please, Section E, stay out of this matter."

Keifer's jaw tightened, his eyes locked on mine. "If you're in it, then I won't stay away."

"I already told you—stay out of this matter," I said firmly, my voice cutting through the silence. "This is my job as a president. And if I really want help, you will be the first person I contact." I tilted my head slightly, my tone sharper. "Happy?"

Keifer's lips pressed into a thin line, his frustration clear.

For a moment, it looked like he might argue again, but instead he exhaled slowly, his shoulders dropping.

"Fine," he muttered, though his gaze never left mine. "But don't expect me to sit back if things get worse."

I was about to say something, but Miss. Smith walked in, her heels clicking against the floor.

"Hello everyone," she greeted warmly, scanning the room.

Her eyes landed on Section E, who were still scattered among Section B's desks.

"Section E, how are you? Are you okay in Section B?" she asked, her tone curious but firm.

Of course they were. I mean, bothering me was practically on their to‑do list, so yeah—they're okay.

Section E straightened instantly, their usual chaos replaced with polite nods and forced smiles.

"We're adjusting fine, Miss," Keifer said smoothly, but then his eyes flicked toward me. "I just wish the president was more collaborative with us."

Miss. Smith raised a brow, glancing between us. "Collaborative?" she repeated, her tone curious.

I forced a calm smile, though my chest tightened. "Section B and Section E have different responsibilities, Ma'am. I'm doing my best to keep things balanced."

Ben shifted beside me, his jaw tight, clearly ready to defend me.

Mia crossed her arms, glaring at Keifer, while Olivia muttered under her breath, "He's pushing it again."

"Okay, everyone, let's start our class for the day," Miss. Smith said, moving toward the board with her usual calm authority.

Ben leaned closer to me, whispering, "We'll talk later, Pres."

I nodded, eyes fixed on the board, though my mind was far from the lesson.

Aries' warning echoed in my head, Keifer's defiance still lingered, and Section A's shadow loomed over everything.

Miss. Smith turned back to the class, smiling faintly. "I expect full attention today. No distractions."

The rest of the class went on like that—quiet, tense, everyone pretending to focus while the storm brewed underneath.

By the time lunch came, I was barely holding my thoughts together.

"Jay, the meeting can't wait until after school," Ben said, walking toward me with urgency in his eyes. "So, we decided to have it during lunch."

I nodded, my stomach twisting. "Alright. Let's do it."

Section E left the room.

"Okay everyone, go grab your lunch from the cafeteria," I said. "Then we will start."

Everyone nodded and filed out, their voices fading down the hallway.

"What about you?" Ben asked, pausing at the door.

"I'm not that hungry," I replied quickly. "I already ate a lot during breakfast."

Ben studied me for a moment, then nodded and left without pressing further.

The truth was different.

The real problem wasn't hunger.

Ever since Keifer's and Section E's betrayal, my appetite had vanished.

Food felt heavy, tasteless.

I only ate because I didn't want anyone to worry about me—so at home, I forced myself to eat more, pretending everything was fine.

Now, alone in the classroom, the silence pressed in.

Section B trusted me, depended on me.

I sat down, staring at the empty desks.

President or not, I can't let them see me break.

Then Section B started to come in one by one, their trays clattering as they settled down.

I walked to the front, my voice steady. "Okay, everyone here?"

Ben nodded.

"So tell me—what did you hear from Section A that made you so worried?" I asked, scanning their faces.

"Jay…" Ben started, his tone heavy. He glanced at Mia, then at Olivia, before continuing. "It's not just rumors anymore. Section A's split is real. Half of them are siding with Mykle, and the other half are with Aries, pretending everything's fine. But the part with Mykle… they want to get back at you and Aries."

"Why?" Caleb asked, confusion etched across his face. "If the problem is between Aries and Mykle, how is Jay involved?"

"Because when Mykle and Aries got into a fight, Jay helped him—remember?" Mia said sharply. .

Her arms crossed, her voice cutting through the silence. "And that bastard is just embarrassed because he got hit by a girl."

"I still don't get how Section B is involved in it," Lila asked, her brows furrowed.

"It's not," I said firmly. "Because I'm your president, they want to mess up our Section."

"Any ideas how?" Caleb asked.

"My guess is the spring festival next week," Olivia said. "I mean, think about it—during the spring festival, the sports and all the competitions happen."

"You've been practicing tennis for the competition," Mia pointed at me.

"Okay, first, I already told you guys—it wasn't for the spring festival. It was just a hobby," I said firmly.

"But still," Caleb pressed, leaning forward, "you can play tennis like a professional in less than one month."

"You also promised us that you will participate in the musical championship too," Olivia reminded me, her tone sharp.

I sighed, rubbing my temples. "I didn't promise—I said I'd try. And now you're all turning my hobbies into weapons against Section A."

Ben shook his head. "It's not about turning them into weapons, Jay. It's about being prepared. If Mykle wants to humiliate you, he'll use the festival. Sports, music, competitions—it's the perfect stage."

Mia crossed her arms. "Exactly. He'll want to prove he's better than you in front of everyone. That's how he'll strike."

The room fell silent, their words sinking in.

I exhaled slowly. "So the spring festival isn't just fun anymore. It's where Section A plans to make their move."

Ben nodded grimly. "Which means we need to be ready—for every event."

"And Jay, you need to practice more on tennis and your singing," Mia said, her tone firm, almost like she was scolding me.

"Fine, you won't let me survive if I don't sign up for it," I said, throwing my hands up in defeat.

Mia smirked, satisfied. "Exactly. At least you know when to listen."

Caleb grinned, his playful spark returning. "See? That's the spirit, Pres."

Ben nodded, his expression serious. "We'll help you practice. Tennis, singing"
