Chapter 4 - Shadows of Babylon

Erold returned to reality and looked around, but did not find the two unknown figures. The man called him, floating in the air, and said in a comforting voice: "You've returned, little one... Did you know the truth about Hoor? Who killed him? And what happened that day? Did you understand how all of this transpired?"

Erold thought for a moment and said: "I never really asked myself how that happened... What happened to me?"

In the blink of an eye, the unknown man was in front of Erold, pointing to the mark on his chest and saying: "Because of this... there are many things you don't know about yourself yet."

Erold was surprised and asked him: "What do you mean by this?"

The unknown man said: "Didn't you wonder about it, boy? Even its shape is strange."

Erold replied: "No, I didn't. But Elizabeth used to wonder about it when she was protecting me the first time. But... what is this thing?"

The man: "I cannot answer that question, boy."

Then he said in a tone closer to boredom: "Why don't you ask me three questions, and I will answer them if I can."

Erold said: "Right, why is your other friend quiet and not speaking?"

The unknown man replied in a joking tone: "Is that your first question? Well... we agreed that each of us would speak in his own time, and by the way, he was the first one to speak to you when you entered."

Erold said with annoyance: "No, it's not a question! Wait! Do you both have the same voice? No... no, that's not a question either, don't answer!"

The unknown man laughed and said: "So, what is your second question?"

Erold thought, remembering his conversation with Hoor during their first meeting. Hoor was a kind person, so he asked: "What happened to Hoor? Why did he turn against the King?"

The unknown man replied: "Hoor saw King Amun as an oppressive and unjust person, because he was invading neighboring villages and annexing them to his rule, and those who opposed him were killed. This is from Hoor's perspective. But he did not know that King Amun was doing this to protect them. And his advisor, Erold, supported him in this decision."

The man continued: "One day, Hoor noticed something strange happening... a voice speaking to him, telling him that it understood his feelings, and it continued to talk to him every night until he trusted it. One day, Hoor asked the King to stop invading the villages. The King got angry and told him: 'Do not interfere in my affairs, Hoor.'"

"Hoor left the Throne Room angrily, and Erold said to the King: 'Your Majesty King Amun, why don't you tell him your reason?' The King replied: 'He is my only son, and he doesn't possess the sufficient acumen to know the real reason. I only want to teach him how to be a king in the future, and to understand what is happening around him by himself, without anyone telling him.'"

Hoor returned to his room, sad and angry, until the strange entity began whispering to him to assassinate the King and stop his 'injustice.' Hoor became afraid and asked it: "How will I do that?"

The entity replied: "Don't worry..." Then it whispered an assassination plan to him.

We see Hoor disguised in a cloak, sneaking among the commoners, reaching a narrow alley, knocking on a door, and saying: "Open Sesame."

The door opened slowly, and a dark-skinned man came out asking him: "What do you want?"

Hoor replied in a firm tone: "I want the King of Thieves."

Hoor was brought inside, and the man told him: "Go down to the basement, you will find him there."

Hoor asked: "And how will I recognize him?"

He replied: "He will be the one who comes to you."

Hoor went down to the basement and found it filled with thieves and mercenaries. He looked firmly from above, and saw a man surrounded by concubines, drinking wine. He approached him, and someone from behind the bar said to him: "Won't you have a drink, boy?"

Hoor: "Not now, please."

He approached the man and said to him: "King of Thieves, I want a favor."

The man replied, drunk: "Haaah? Who are you talking about? Leave, boy!"

Those around him laughed and mocked him, so the man behind the bar shouted in a heavy voice: "Silence, you vagrants!"

Silence fell, then the man said to Hoor: "What do you want, you?"

Hoor replied: "I want the King of Thieves."

The man smiled confidently and said: "You are speaking to him now... What do you want, little Prince?"

Everyone was surprised: "Prince Hoor?!"

The man who shouted sobered up and said: "The Prince?! Is Erold here? Prepare yourselves, guys!"

The King of Thieves replied: "No, that annoying one isn't here, and I want to punch him because he stole that little one from me. Alright, what do you want?"

Hoor said: "I want fifty elite mercenaries to distract the guards, and spread chaos in the palace... I want to keep Erold busy away from me."

The King of Thieves laughed and said: "Fifty? Why such a large number, Your Highness..."

Hoor took out five gold pouches and said: "I think this is enough for you... and enough for your curiosity."

Everyone was amazed by the amount, and the King of Thieves laughed and said: "When do you want the operation?"

Hoor replied with sadness apparent on his face and in his voice: "Tomorrow at sunset."

That night, Hoor sneaked into the Royal Wing. He stood beside his father, and took out a poisoned dagger that one of the mercenaries had given him.

He plunged the dagger into his father's heart, crying and saying: "I didn't want to do this... but you didn't leave me a choice, Father... I want peace!"

The strange entity appeared next to Hoor and said: "Well done, Hoor... you have taken a step on the path of peace."

Hoor asked: "What is left for me?"

The entity said: "To unite our powers. I will make you kill everyone who opposes your path to peace."

Hoor was afraid and asked: "Will I achieve peace?"

The entity replied: "Peace cannot remain forever. You will need violence for those who oppose you, for there are those who love war."

Hoor trembled, then composed himself and said: "I trust you, my friend... Agreed."

He extended his hand to the entity, who told him: "Don't do anything... just close your eyes and relax."

Hoor closed his eyes... and could not open them again. He shouted: "My friend!" He found himself in boundless darkness, yelling: "Where am I? My friend!"

But the entity had taken control of Hoor's body and said: "Stupid boy..."

The unknown man said to Erold: "That is all."

Erold replied: "That idiot... didn't he realize he was being deceived?"

The unknown man said: "That is the nature of humans... Don't you know? Grant a human power, and you will see their true nature exposed. The weak, when they lack authority, speak of justice and virtue, but as soon as they taste the flavor of power, they turn into the tyrants they once hated. Man is not ruled by morals, but by desire, and when the opportunity arises, he always chooses himself over others. The true character is not measured by words, but by what a man does when he believes no one can stop him."

The unknown person replied: "If so, then we may not see you again... Goodbye, in a moment of breakage and ruins."

As Erold was being pulled out, he shouted: "Who are you?!"

The unknown man replied in a confused voice that Erold could not clearly understand: "We are... Ha... ru... t and... Ma... r..."

Erold came out, sweating profusely, to find Jasmine yelling at him: "What happened to you, Erold? You were like a statue, not moving!"

Erold said in astonishment: "I never expected in my life that I would meet them..."
