Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Awkward Silence

Days had passed.

Amara is still waiting for him. Always looking out of the window, hoping to see him walk through the gate. But there is still no sign.

Amara was very distracted while doing her studies. Adrian kept coming in her mind, the call.

His voice.

His teasing.

Him telling, he misses her.

every single thing about him.

While she was thinking about him and acting like she was studying, there was a knock on her door.

She opened the door, it was Lyra standing there.

Amara asked, "What's wrong, Lyra? Is everything okay? Do you need help with something?"

Lyra just nodded her head no.

They both were quiet for some time.

Amara was feeling awkward with this silence, but broke it asking, "So how are studies going?"

Lyra answered her, "Well it's going great, exams are coming up so preparing for that."

Amara tried to keep the conversation going. "That's great. Good luck with your exams — I know you'll do great."

Lyra only hummed in response.

The silence stretched again — thin, uncomfortable, almost heavy. Amara shifted slightly, unsure what else to say. Lyra wasn't usually like this. She was quiet, yes, but not… distant.

Amara tried again, offering a small smile. "Do you want to sit? We can study together if you want."

Lyra shook her head. "No. I'm fine."

Another pause.

Amara tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, trying to ignore the strange tension. "Um… did you need anything else?"

Lyra looked at her — really looked at her — eyes sharp, unreadable.

"No," she said softly. "I just… wanted to see you."

Amara blinked, surprised. "Oh. Well… I'm here."

Lyra nodded once, but her expression didn't soften. If anything, something flickered in her eyes — something Amara couldn't name.

Jealousy. Curiosity. Suspicion. All mixed together.

Lyra stepped back. "I'll go now."

"Okay… good luck with studying," Amara said gently.

Lyra gave a small nod and walked away, closing the door behind her.

The moment she left, Amara let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding.

"That was… weird," she whispered to herself.

She sat back at her desk, opened her book, and tried to focus — but her eyes kept drifting to the window.

Her mind kept drifting to him.

His voice. His laugh. The way he said my love like it belonged to her. The way he whispered I missed you like he meant it with his whole heart.

She pressed her hand to her chest.

"I miss you too…"

Her eyes stung a little.

She didn't know how much she needed him until he wasn't here.

She didn't know how much space he took in her mind until he left.

She didn't know how deeply she loved him until she felt the ache of his absence.

She sighed and leaned her forehead against the window.

"Come back soon…"

Outside, the gate was still empty.

But not for long.

Because the reunion — the moment her heart had been waiting for — was already on its way.
