Chapter 2 - CHAPTER TWO: GOODBYE.

~ANABEL'S POV~

"Anabel, who do you think you are to make decisions for me?" Damien's face was filled with anger, his eyes fixed on me without blinking.

It seemed he hadn't expected me to agree to FirstLove's proposal on his behalf.

I looked back at him calmly. "Isn't this what you've always wanted?"

Damien frowned, clearly displeased with my reaction. "Even if I plan to marry Sophia, I don't need you to make promises on my behalf. This has nothing to do with you."

I scoffed inwardly, I bet he was so happy I made it easier for him. If he wants to marry Sophia he had to divorce me and I already prepared that a while ago.

How ironic, the very woman he was complaining of was seated in the living room, staring at us arguing with each other. Are face was full of smiles, her eyes glittering like the blub above our heads.

I opened my mouth to answer his questions but then Sophia glanced at me with a hint of subtle triumph. "Alright," she said, pretending to mediate, "I just got back. Why don't Anabel join us for dinner?"

"Aren't we meeting the other of your friends tonight?" she asked casually.

Seems my husband was well aware of Sophia coming a long time ago. Just yesterday, Damien had whispered and promises to introduce me to all his friends, turns out it was all about Sophia. I was thrilled, thinking he was ready to acknowledge our relationship in front of them, how foolish of me to think. Now sophia wouldn't just be his first love in front of his friends but also his soon to be bride. His lifetime dream.

"We can also discuss the details of my wedding with Damien. After all, I'd love for Anabel to be my bridesmaid."

Bridesmaid! Was she kidding me? I am still legally married to him and she wants me to be here bridesmaid.

A bitter smile tugged at the corners of mylips. "I can't make it tonight; I have some work at work" I said, turning around without giving Damien another glance.

Damien unexpectedly grabbed my hand and pulled me to a secluded spot. A flicker of hope ignited within me, hoping this would be the moment he would finally chose to leave with me, reassure me that he wouldn't marry Sophia, and declare that he wanted to be with me.

I would apologize, tell him agreeing to Sophia's proposal was just a spur-of-the-moment retaliation.

He looked at me, struggling to find the right words. Has he finally realized he lives me. Did last night at least mean something to him.

Finally, he decisively said, "Anabel, let's not see each other for a while. Sophia has come back asking for my help. I plan to marry her. Her family's company, Parker's Group, is at a crucial point and needs an investment from my family. Sophia agreed to marry me, and I can't bear to disappoint her."

Not seeing each? Can't bear to disappoint her, but you're fine with disappointing me? What a perfect excuse he had come up with. I was meant to cry but I couldn't bring myself to. I had already decided to leave after getting the chance to go inside him.

He placed a black card in my hand, trying to comfort me. "Buy whatever you want. I'll marry Sophia in name only to help her through this tough period. Two months later, once her company's situation stabilizes, we'll divorce, and I'll come back to you."

'Divorce her? Well you would have to divorce me first! I thought within my head.'

"What did you say?"

I stared at him, feeling like my heart was being ripped apart. "Don't worry. Sophia and I, we know each other well. It's just a performance for her company's shareholders. You know, she's against the idea of marriage; marrying me is just a temporary measure."

Performance, it might be for Sophia but not to you Damien.

"Damien, Are we getting divorced?"

In the distance, Sophia's gentle urging could be heard.

Damien could no longer tolerate it when he heard Sophia's call.He raised his hand and absently touched my face, once again reminding me, "Anabel, it's just two months. Wait for me, the breakup is only temporary."

I stared at the necklace around his neck and quickly snatched it away. "It seems to be broken. I'll take it off and fix it for you." I plastered a smile on my face "One more thing Damien, I need a minute I would be right back."

I hurriedly went into the room and grabbed a file.

"Here, sign it!"

"What's this? he asked nonchalantly like I was disturbing him.

"It's related to the company and needs urgent attention."

"All right!" He said, grabbing the pen and signing it without even glancing through.

I felt a pang in my heart, I guess it would be the last I would feel. He had just signed the divorce papers. We were now divorced.

"Good bye forever Damien!" I whispered.

He paused, turning slightly. "What did you say?"

"Nothing!"

He didn't even bother to reply and he waved dismissively and hurried towards the love of his life.

I pulled out my phone and called Director Harvey, "Director Harvey, it's Anabel. Is that exchange spot you mentioned still available? I would love to participate in it.I agree to go abroad."
