"Heh. I feel stronger already. I haven't even fought a single Monster yet, but I'm already Level 3. My Stats have reached double digits too. I did want to use Appraisal on Frank but that'd feel like an invasion of privacy. He went out of his way to send all of that information to me. I'd rather not turn away such a good grace. And in Farming Is Life, there was a Friend List too. Maybe I'll get to see that here sometime down the line?", Lloyd uttered, wondering if there was such a function in Solaris. There were already multiple different layers that the Earth Goddess Gaia added to creating this world.

And with the information presented to Lloyd already, he was already starting to ponder whether it was just Gaia who created Solaris. After all, there were multiple continents which matched the known elements.

As he wondered whether that was the case, Lloyd suddenly felt a hard object strike against his feet, almost causing him to tumble over several pieces of farming equipment.

"Oof...I need to watch where I'm walking--?", Lloyd tried to say, only to see an item roll out that was buried within a large pile of pitchforks and farming hoes.

It was circular, and round. On top of that, Lloyd's eyes turned serious once he saw a blue glow shine over the item. On the backside of it, Lloyd saw a firm leather strap laced from side to side. It was meant to grab a hold of it that way. After all, Lloyd recognized what this item was.

[Ding! You have tested your luck once again.]

[Ding! You have found Fine Sturdy Shield-Lv2.]

[Ding! As you have found a Fine or higher grade piece of Equipment, you can register it. Would you like to proceed?]

"Bruh.", Lloyd said, feeling surprised that he did have another encounter. Moreso, it was another blue piece of gear! "And why would I decline? Proceed."

[Ding! Fine Sturdy Shield-Lv2 has been registered to you. It can no longer be dropped or stolen.]

"That's fine and all, but what is a shield doing here in a maintenance shed that barely had any upkeep? Seriously, it's such a mess in here. But I guess one man's trash is another person's treasure. Hah.", Lloyd said, and laughed again. To think he'd find not one, but two blue pieces of gear. On his first day too.

"Appraisal.", Lloyd continued, and went with the flow.

[Fine Sturdy-Shield-Lv2]

A sturdy-looking shield that cannot be easily pierced through. Reinforced with several layers of metal that has been hardened through an extensive striking of an anvil. Monsters will think twice before proceeding to bite it.

Enchant Tier: Lv2

Rank 2 Effect: Strength: 2 Endurance: 8 Spirit: 3

Durability: 100/100

Bonus Effect: Grants Skill - Parry. Upon certain mastery, Parry can be added into Skills.

(Empty Slot)

*This piece of gear can be Refined. One slot is available.

**Refining is unavailable with present Occupation.

Remark: Can easily fend off attacks from monsters or block incoming arrows.

"A Parry skill, eh? This place isn't some turn-based game. I'll need to effectively read an enemy's movement first, and calculate where they will strike if I'm to make effective use of it. If I'm reading this description right, once I use Parry enough, I'll obtain the Skill itself, without having a need to equip this particular shield. Let's say I find a higher grade piece of gear. Is that how I obtain skills in this world? Or can I obtain them through certain actions too?", Lloyd wondered. Another layer suddenly added, causing anticipation to appear in his eyes.

Still, Lloyd fiddled with the shield, and before long, another prompt appeared.

[Ding! You have equipped Fine Sturdy Shield-Lv2.]

[Ding! Your Harvester Log has been updated. It is now ready to view.]

All of a sudden, Lloyd saw his Endurance shoot up all the way to 19, becoming his highest stat. That isn't something a beginner would see in a game. That much he could tell, even if shields didn't exist in Farming Is Life. After all, that game didn't have monsters. But Solaris did.

Lloyd also saw in his Log that both hands were now equipped. Both blue pieces of gear. A Fine Hoe in his left hand, and a Fine Sturdy Shield in his right hand. Gripping onto the shield with a firm grip, Lloyd smiled. He then proceeded to place it on his back. He didn't have a need to use it right now, but it stayed equipped for the stats.

Lloyd had another glance through the stuffed shed. Different piles of tools laid atop each other. Most shimmered white. Every so often, he would see a green shimmer. But none of them were blue. He already got what he came here for, a tool sturdy enough to finish the rest of his second Quest. He also came to test his Inventory out. But he didn't think he'd come across rare pieces of equipment like this. He'll need to test this out later. He didn't want to take too much from here. Otherwise that'd make it suspicious.

Creeek.

Closing the shed's door, Lloyd was greeted with the harsh rays of the sun. It was Monday. Looking toward the southside of his plot were more buildings, neatly aligned with one another. They all had a medieval-look. Two-story buildings aligned one after another. Every so often, Lloyd would spot this string of buildings, just like the sheds.

"That solves my lodging issue. The only thing is...I was kind of dropped here. Do I even have a room?", Lloyd questioned. Looking at the position of the sun, it was now three o'clock in the afternoon. The sun was already beginning to set. He didn't have to rush the rest of his plot, seeing as he had an entire week if he wanted to complete his second Quest on time. Then, Lloyd recalled part of the reason why he wanted to see how Inventory worked and Gaia's words at the same time.

Lloyd smacked his head. He had forgotten something important!

"Right, the Beginner's Gift. Let's see what this has to offer me.", Lloyd said. After arriving on his assigned plot again, he looked around, and ensured no one was near him. He fiddled around with his Inventory just like how he did so with his equipment.

"Open Inventory.", Lloyd uttered. Sure enough, a blue screen appeared. Rows upon rows of blank icons suddenly appeared before Lloyd. It seemed to be a...ten by ten square? That meant he had a full hundred slots. He didn't know how items stacked yet, but his eyes were drawn to the very first slot. He saw Beginner's Pack - Lv1. It had a little sealed envelope attached to it, hinting at an unread note. He just willed it to open, and was soon greeted with a new prompt.

[Ding! If you are reading this then you managed to learn how to open your Inventory. Congratulations! This should cover any gaps from you to other newbies here in Solaris. I am sorry I cannot assist you further. And you might have learned this already, but the residents here all can use a Skill called Item Box. The Harvester Log belongs to you and only you. It is set up in a way where any inputs your Inventory has, it will be read the same to how Item Box operates. I placed a hidden brand on your left hand that you can use whenever you turn in your Tasks. Your lovely Earth Goddess - Gaia.]

"Gaia...", Lloyd uttered. He smiled. To think she thought that far for him. Should he come across one of those churches, he will for sure provide an offering of sorts. He'll need to learn about that later. For now, Lloyd's eyes glanced upon his left hand for a moment. There wasn't anything there, so it was likely hidden. Or perhaps the brand only made its appearance once he turned in Tasks. He wasn't sure. After looking at his hand for a moment, he shifted his gaze back to his Inventory. He saw a neatly-wrapped present icon with a red ribbon and everything.

Silently thanking the Earth Goddess Gaia, he looked at the icon, and pondered. "Hmm, do I just tap it?"

Making a decision, Lloyd reached his hand out toward the blue screen. He stretched one of his fingers out, and tapped it. Sparkle!

A light blue glow struck his eyes. It wasn't bright but a prompt immediately followed after, causing Lloyd to look at the new screen before him.

[Ding! You have opened Beginner's Gift-Lv1.]

[Ding! You have received the following items: Beginner's Gift-Lv3, 100 Copper Coins, 31-Day Temporary Pass - Rooting Plains (Plot 91) - Room 205, 1 Basic Mastery Skill Book, 3 Minor Medicinal Pills, 5 Available Stat Points, 1 Basic Earth Spell.]

[Ding! Points*2 has been triggered. Available Stat Points 5 -> 10.]

All of a sudden, more than half of Lloyd's first row of his Inventory were filled with items he didn't previously have. The first cell didn't change, as it still had the same gift icon. But this time, it was for Lv3. And guess what? He already reached Lv3.

"Heh, I bet Gaia didn't expect I'd already be ready to open this next gift pack. I've seen some games do this. If it's anything to go by, the final step is Lv10. From there, we'd be on our own. I no longer have to question where I'm living for the time being, either. I don't have to wander into town every day. I'll be residing in...dorms, if I had to relate it to something? That isn't the best part of this first gift pack either...", Lloyd uttered.

Lloyd's eyes wandered beyond the 100 Copper Coins. It landed on two different colored books.

Bonafide Skill Books!

Excitement once again appeared in Lloyd's eyes. He didn't have any hesitation. It was time to use them!
