Chapter 9 - Surprise

AIDEN'S POV

We got to the hospital and headed straight to Avery's room.

"Boss, Stephan called minutes ago, he wanted to know if you were here...said he couldn't reach you." Simon said the minute I got to the door. I stopped to find out why.

"Why?"

"He said something about a video...he got details on the video and the sender's location."

"Tell him I'm busy at the moment. He should handle it and give me details."

"Okay, Boss."

I stepped into the room to find Jayden kissing Avery's hand. "I'm Jayden Armstrong, Aiden's Cousin."

"Get your filthy hands off my wife!" I ordered.

Avery was startled by my reaction and turned to quickly. It seems the action made her head hurt because she held her head in pain.

"Avery, are you okay?" The girl with her, asked with concern obvious in her voice. "She needs a doctor." She stated, turning to face the rest of us.

"I'll go get the Doctor." Sydney rushed out to do exactly that.

I walked over to Avery. Honestly, I didn't know what to say to her. I just held her hand until the doctor came. "What's wrong with her?"

"Your wife's dealing with severe headaches, that's normal since she hit her head. I've given her a sedative, with enough rest, she should be alright. We had administered some pain relief earlier. Hopefully, there will be improvement when she wakes up."

"Thank you, Doc." The doctor stepped out of the room, leaving the rest of us.

I started at Avery as she drifted off. "You don't always have to be so mean and loud. You didn't want to be here, why now?" Her words slurred as she fell asleep.

She's pissed I wasn't here? What the fuck should I be doing here? Sitting around, counting ceilings?

"You know, she's quite right, you shouldn't have come here." Jayden said with a smirk. "She was much better before you arrived... just saying." Slowly, turning to look at the rest, as if seeking their agreement on this.

"Shut the fuck up!" My patience was running thin. I could just strangle him but I can't as much as it pains me, he's family.

"Aiden, you're being too loud, you're in a hospital. You saw what just happened." Sydney spoke in a voice almost as faint as a whisper and walked over to where I was. "Besides, Jayden is right. Maybe you should learn to speak softly and stop being mad at every minute of the day, don't you think?"

"And maybe you should stop trying to tell me what to do, Sydney."

"Here you go again, ignoring the truth and discarding advice." Jayden countered.

"I've tolerated you enough, we're family but there's a limit to my forgiveness." I saw the look of irritation on the other girl in the room. "Who the hell is she?" I asked pointing at her direction.

"She's—" Sydney was going to answer but the girl cut her off.

"I'm Kiesha, Avery's best friend." The irritated look never left her face.

"I see..." To Sydney, I said, "Let me know when she wakes up."

"The least you can do is stay for a bit. Besides, this is your fault, the shooting and now this."

I couldn't believe my ears, "Did you—" No, no, not possible. I looked at Sydney, "Did she just speak to me in that tone."

"Aiden, she's Avery's friend and she's obviously—" I don't give two effs about what she had to say in her defense.

I returned my gaze to her, a menacing gaze she was obviously intimidated by.

"I'm so—" she cleared her throat, somehow she managed to confident. "forgive my tone but I'm sure you will agree that I speak the truth."

Damn, I can't be here in this room right now. As much as I was pissed, every word she said was true. This hide and seek with the Martins is driving me nuts. What better way to unwind than a good fuck or good fight? I'll take the fight for now.

"Wait!" Sydney called out.

"What is it?"

"Why do you hate Jayden so much, Aiden?"

"Why don't you ask your brother?" She turned to look at Jayden but he turned away. With one more glance at Avery, I left the room and headed for the parking lot.

Why do I hate him so much? Maybe if he wasn't such a pussy we would be cool. He doesn't even have to balls to admit what he did.

I took a cigarette out of my pocket, lit it and continued walking to the spot the car was parked. My phone rang, an unknown caller ID but I answered anyway.

"Hello!" There was no response, not even a sound on the other end. I ended call and kept walking but it felt like I was being followed. I turned around, there was no one behind me. Soon, i got to the car and felt the presence again and turned immediately, this time, there was a woman dressed in black with a mask. She threw a punch at me before I could say Jack, her fist connected with my jaw. I must admit, for a punch delivered by a woman, it was good.

"Who the hell are you?" She didn't reply.

Enough of this crap. Girl or not, she was about to get these hands. I swung my arm and delivered a powerful punch that knocked her off her feet. Then I pinned her to the floor.

I tried to unmask her but she scratched at my eyes. "She devil!" I groaned. I could barely keep my eyes open but I chased after her till i got her again. We both stumbled, each one trying to overpower the other. Enough of your silly game, woman!" I said as I pinned her to the ground, forcing her to stay still.

Why would the Martins send a female after me? What hell was this joke for?

I immediately pulled her mask off. The face I saw, I couldn't believe it.
