Her hands shook as she pressed them together, lips forming the incantation in desperate silence. Reverse magic sparked around her fingertips, faint and flickering. Time bent backward, pulling at her body, her consciousness, unwinding her steps like thread returning to its spool.


The clearing blurred. Sounds distorted. And then—


Nyla gasped, stumbling forward as the magic released her. She spun around wildly, recognizing the path she'd walked minutes before. Before the clearing. Before that damned bush.


Her chest heaved as she gripped a tree trunk, steadying herself.


She sagged against the rough bark, relief flooding through her trembling legs. The adrenaline drained away, leaving her hollow and shaken.
