The morning after the fire, Kira found herself sitting in the sleek, glass-walled boardroom of King Enterprises. The room was vast and intimidating, a stark contrast to the cramped office she had just lost. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered a panoramic view of the city, but Kira barely noticed. Her eyes were fixed on the man at the head of the table—Alexander King.
He sat with effortless authority, fingers steepled, eyes sharp and calculating. The air between them was thick with tension.
"Ms. Kira," Alexander began, his voice smooth and controlled, "I understand the fire was unfortunate. However, King Enterprises has already acquired this building, and your lease is terminated."
Kira's jaw tightened. "I know. But my company isn't just a tenant here. It's my life's work."
Alexander's gaze didn't soften. "Which is why I'm offering you a choice. You can sell your company to us, or you can enter into a partnership. Under my terms."
Kira's heart pounded. "Your terms?"
He nodded. "You'll have access to our resources, our network, and capital. But you'll operate under King Enterprises' oversight."
She leaned forward, eyes blazing. "So, I'm supposed to hand over control of my company to you?"
Alexander's smile was thin, almost amused. "Control is a luxury few startups can afford. You want to survive, Ms. Kira. This is the best chance you have."
Kira's voice was steady but fierce. "I won't sell out my vision."
Alexander's eyes locked onto hers. "Then you'll have to learn to work with me."
The room fell silent. Neither willing to back down.
Finally, Kira broke the silence. "Fine. But know this—I'm not your puppet."
Alexander's smile widened, a spark of respect in his eyes. "I wouldn't expect anything less."
As the meeting ended, Kira gathered her things, her mind racing. She was stepping into a world she barely understood, with a man she barely trusted. But she had no choice.
Outside the boardroom, Alexander's assistant approached him quietly. "She's tougher than I thought."
Alexander nodded. "Good. She'll make this interesting."
