Chapter 136: The Fall of the Bessy Family

Early the next morning.

The residents of Poole Street slowly came out of their homes. After spending the entire night terrified, every one of them had dark circles under their eyes. Their bloodshot gazes were still filled with fear.

They cautiously stepped outside and looked toward the Bessy Family's great castle—the place they had always admired most.

But now, the castle had become a pile of rubble, with corpses stacked outside.

Men in black suits were hauling bodies away, while others searched through the ruins.

"Gulp…"

The residents who had gathered to watch trembled as they swallowed hard.

"I was so scared last night I didn't sleep at all… I was afraid someone would break in."

"The explosions were so horrifying… I hid under my bed the whole night, terrified one might land on my house."

"I thought I was done for. Who would've imagined the Capone Family and the Bessy Family would go to war—and the Bessys got wiped out? Not a single corpse out there belongs to the Capone Family."

"I heard Capone Bege ate some powerful treasure from the sea and became a Devil Fruit user. The Bessys were all ordinary people—how could they compete with that?"

"Exactly… though honestly, serves them right. Their protection fees kept getting higher these past months."

"Just hope the Capone Family doesn't start doing the same."

The frightened residents murmured restlessly.

In this area, even the royal guard didn't dare interfere in mafia conflicts. These families were tied to the kingdom's nobles, dealing in weapons and other shady business.

As long as they weren't slaughtering innocent civilians, the authorities usually stayed out of it—unless they were confident they could crush these underground groups.

Inside the Capone Family's castle.

It wasn't as large as the Bessy Family's former fortress—but that no longer mattered.

In one of the halls, Capone Bege lounged on a large sofa, one leg crossed over the other, blowing out streams of smoke.

A man in a black suit entered.

"Godfather, the Bessy Family's territory has been fully taken over. We secured 180 million Berries, and a fine sword."

The subordinate stepped forward, head bowed, respectfully offering a large chest and a beautifully crafted long blade.

"Hmm. Leave the sword. Use the money to recruit more men, and expand the armory. I don't need to teach you how to handle the rest, do I?"

Capone Bege nodded and spoke calmly.

"Understood, Godfather. I'll take care of it immediately."

The black-suited man carefully placed the sword on the table, then bowed and backed out of the hall.

Gulu gulu…

At that moment, the Den Den Mushi rang.

Capone Bege glanced at it and answered.

The Den Den Mushi's face shifted into an arrogant, defiant expression.

"Fufufufufu… Capone Bege, you've grown bold. You actually dared to lay a hand on my people!"

Doflamingo's eerie laughter carried through, the red lenses of his sunglasses flashing with a bloodthirsty glint.

"Doffy, don't make it sound so serious. What business did you really have with those two idiots? Working with me makes you far more money than partnering with those fools."

Capone Bege replied lazily with a mocking smile.

"Fufufu… If you don't give me a good explanation, I won't mind making your family disappear just like the Bessys."

Doflamingo said coldly.

The Donquixote Family had only recently begun its rise. Every business partner mattered. Having one wiped out without warning—by someone they themselves had dealings with—was impossible for him to swallow.

Especially when it was done by someone he had already formed a transactional relationship with.

"Guns twice as strong as standard ones. Cannons with double the firepower. Interested?"

Capone Bege's lips curved slightly upward as he spoke.
