Chapter 47: Legendary Beasts

"Harry, why were you talking to Madam Yafel? What is this all about?" Dumbledore grasped his shoulders.

Harry pushed his hands away and looked towards the large window at the end of the office. "You have better things to worry about right now. Something is about to attack this school."

"What?!" Dumbledore exclaimed.

"When you so carelessly decided to bring me here with your stupid goblet, I warned you that you were putting everyone in danger." Harry walked up to the window and glanced outside. "You see… I was right in the middle of something important, dealing with very dangerous… things."

Harry turned around to face the Headmaster. "And now they appear to have tracked me down to this castle. So… good job there."

"Who tracked you? Were they men wearing black cloaks and masks?" Dumbledore became alarmed, thinking that Harry might have already started a conflict with Death Eaters.

"No cloaks, but some of them do like to wear masks." Harry jumped onto the window ledge. "However, our current guests are probably not human." He moved his hand to one side, and a staff appeared out of thin air.

It looked like a long wooden branch with a white crystal embedded at the top and glowing runes carved on its side.

The name of this artifact was the Branch of Annwn, and it was the original staff he had wielded during his life as Merlin.

It had taken months to convince the two Spanish collectors who had it to sell it back to him.

It still irked him that he had to pay such a high price for something that was rightfully his, but at least he had it back.

"Now let's see what we've got up there." Harry tapped the stone wall of the castle and broke off a piece of it, before transforming it into a platform that floated in the air.

He stepped forward and placed his feet on the neatly created platform.

"Harry, wait! Where are you going?" Dumbledore exclaimed.

"I'm going to save your schoo—"

All of a sudden, a loud animalistic cry was heard coming from above, and it was potent enough to force the Headmaster to cover his ears.

Harry groaned. "It really is them…"

He moved the platform with his magic and rose into the sky, far above the castle.

Then, he was able to see them approaching. There were two massive red dragons flying directly at him.

"Mmm… did one of them get lost on the way here?" Harry was sure there were three dragons when he last saw them.

He glanced down for a moment and considered approaching the enemy first to avoid collateral damage to the school.

Harry tapped the stone platform beneath his feet, and it began to fly faster.

"Hlýd, ƿolcn! (Listen, clouds!)" His staff started to emit a humming sound, and the crystal on the top shone with a bright white light.

"þīn yrre is min. (Your fury is mine.)" Black clouds covered a large part of the sky.

Harry then aimed the glowing staff at one of the dragons. "Līget, strȳc nū!

(Lightning, strike now!)"

A powerful bolt of lightning descended from the sky and hit the colossal beast on its back, hurting it and piercing one of its wings in the process.

The red dragon let out a painful cry and was forced to descend from the air, landing precariously just a mile off the castle.

'Not enough…' Harry lamented. His magic had injured the beast, but it was far from dead. Even without its ability to fly, it was still extremely dangerous.

However, he had at least gained some time to deal with the other one.

His eyes moved to the still-flying red dragon, just in time to notice a humanoid figure sitting on the back of the beast.

"A dragon rider? So he must be the one who tracked me down."

The dragon was still half a mile away, and Harry was preparing his next strike when he saw the rider making a move.

He heard a loud explosion and quickly moved the staff in front of him. "Obice!" A translucent barrier manifested just in time to block the projectile that had been fired at him.

Harry could see the bullet glowing in an eerie blue light before it lost its momentum and fell.

The weapon that the rider had fired was specially designed to pierce through magical barriers, and if he had used anything less than his best protection, he would have died.

"They only give those to high-ranking officers," Harry muttered.

The person who had followed him was not an average dragon rider, and the dragon he was riding was also much larger than the other one.

"An ancient dragon, and an officer… great. This is not going to be that easy, then."

The red dragon opened its mouth, and Harry found a violent burst of flames aimed in his direction.

"Paries Undae! (Wall of the Wave!)" Harry conjured a potent water barrier in front of him to block as much of the fire as he could while moving away from the residual heat that was now producing a thick mist.

"Harry!"

He heard someone shouting from below, and after a moment of looking, he spotted the old Headmaster flying on a magical broom.

"What are you doing, you old fool?!" Harry shouted at him. "Don't come any closer unless you are trying to get yourself killed."

"Harry!" Dumbledore pointed into the distance. "There is a dragon over there! A red dragon!"

"There are two, actually. The other one is on the ground…" Harry sighed. "Is this really the old legendary wizard that everyone kept comparing with me?"
