Chapter 2 - Pre-Structural

-----Recap-----

The old castle continued to change and shift trough the night, the stones talked, the fire flickered, the stairs creek'ed, the Ghost listened, the Portraits looked, Magic flowed trough each brick and Stone of Hogwarts Castle as it laid awake and observing on top a dislocated mountain in Scotland the squid in the lake guarding.

-----Story-----

The next morning at Hogwarts didn't arrive in the blink of an eye, not it took it's time to slowly creep past the mountain's to shine the new day upon the old Castle. The light slowly creeping in trough the castle windows, the tall, the coloured and small one's, the castle shifted in response to the morning sun waking it up, it's magic flowing faster trough the stone and creaks, the fire dimming down to let the sunlight do it'S job and with that a new day started for Selena as she opened her eyes, starring up at the ceiling.

Selena listened, to the breathing of her Dorm mate's, to the rustling of the sheets, the fire in the common room, to the creaking and shifting of the castle. Her curtain's opening without a request, she sat up, gave a quick look around and then stood up to get dressed into her school uniform, patting down the fabric to remove some of the loose wrinkles it had formed.

Then put on her boot's and laced them of, making sure no dirt were on them from Yesterday, she made her way to the Bathroom, brushed her teeth and combing her Hair into a neat pony-tail.

She went back to her room, her trunk sitting in front of her bed, she opened and looked inside, it was larger on the inside and her Clothes, School supply's, Book's and other Items were neatly sorted in. Selena turned to her book's she sorted trough them until she found what she was looking for, it was an old leather bound book, with engraving's (rune's) carved into the spine.

Selena closed her trunk and went into the common room where she sat down on a dark red couch near the fire and turned the book, her hand gliding over the title before opening it. The title read.

Pre-Structural Magic.

She then started to read the book.

---

Magic did not beginn with Word's.

This is the first lie that the new Magic's had taught there Children, deeming old magic dangerous and hard to control.

Before that though, before the Wand waving, before the word's, before the rule's, there was magic that did not want to be commanded and there still is, that is what we call old Magic or Ancient Magic, It wasn't there to be commanded, no it was there to be guided, it flowed.

This Magic, it just existed like gravity did, it is a rule, unquestioning, inescapable and utterly indifferent, but you can learned to use it, dangerous it may be but you can.

This is Pre-Structural Magic.

It is not cast.It is not shaped. It does not answer.

So heed my warning, those who touch Pre-Structural Magic needed to learn not how to use it but how to survive it, so if you are reading this and find the text responding to the pulse of your magic, keep it and learn it, those not, leave it, you were never meant to wield this.

Selena looked up from her book and shut it close as she hear footsteps come down the stairs and then the hushed voices of other Student's, murmurs of half conversations with topic's of how it was to early or that they were still tried so mostly just complaining expect for a few early raisers. She turns her attention away and watches the fire grow brighter, warming the room up more to accommodate the other students that just got out of bed.

She waited for them to move from the staircase before getting up and returning the book to her trunk and getting her school bag, it was a neat black leather bag with many compartments enlarged by magic that could be swung over one shoulder like a messenger bag. After grabbing it Selena made her way back down into the common room a few student's were still lingering, some watching her as she walked past her long hair gliding behind as the air made way for her, as the shadows gathered and twisted and danced around her, Selena ignored it all and walked out the portrait once it opened and stepped trough the halls of Hogwarts the castle still watching through the Portraits and hearing through the Ghost.

But something did change compared to the night she arrived in the castle at day-time was brighter, the shadows more reserved, hiding even and the magic no longer run wild but sat and observed, passing message from brick to brick and stone to stone. Selena walked past, ignoring the looming Arches, the play of the staircase as it twisted and changes path to make her way aligning out of courtesy.

She walked past student who talked, she walked past the watching portraits and ignored the listening and talking Ghost as she glided through the Hallway soon to reach to the door to the Great hall. Breakfast waiting, she stepped inside and returned to her seat a plate already fully served as if just waiting for her to eat from it.

The plate was filled and waiting, it was serving her some toast, neatly cut and buttered, a bowl of porridge with a little bit of sugar it warm steam curling upward and a good cup of black tee to wake up the rest of Selena. It was nothing extravagant, but nothing was accidental, everything had it place and was where it should be, satisfied with that Selena sat down. The bench moved to accommodate her before she begann to eat.

Across from Selena sat a girl that she had noticed was watching her as the girl was walking down the stairs the girl's eyes focused on her book, eyes glued to the cover and now to Selena. Not being able to hold her curiosity the older girl decided to ask. "Did, anyone serve you?" she gestures to Selenas ready made plate. "It arrived" answers Selena calm and start to eat her food, her movement graceful. The girl too continued to eat her Breakfast but did continue there conversation, it turned into a pleasant talk about how each girl had arrived Yesterday and how the castle felt.

But a moment later it was interrupted by a bushy brown haired girl that had a book under her arm that she had been reading. The girl sat down next to Selena and Selena recognized it was Hermione Granger, she remembered her since she was the same that pointed out the enchantment on the ceiling of the great hall.

Hermione give's them a small greeting wave before asking. "Good morning, so i could't help but notice, you were reading a book, what was it?" Selena waited and stirred her porridge before answering. "Yes." Hermione sighted. "What was it?" Hermione asked again. "I didn't recognize the book, It wasn't on the first-year list" Selena stares at Hermione, the girl's eye's meeting for a uncomfortable time till Hermione broke it, her hands sweating cold and taking a deep breath to shake of the feeling of wrongness.

She hesitates. "So, i didn't recognize the book, it's not on the list for first years" Hermione gives Selena a curious look. Selena waited and ate a spoonful of her Porridge. "It wasn't a subject yet," she said and Hermione's grip on her cup of Pumpkin juice tightened, her expression a mix of confusion and curiosity. "What do you mean, yet?" Selena waited a moment before answering between her bites of food. "It was written before Magic learned to fear itself or cause fear" her voice eery and a soft smile graced Selena's face.

Hermione took a second to mull over what Selena had said. She tried to make Logic of what Selena had said, but it wasn't logical. "That is unlogical, does not make sense, magic doesn't fear," She leans forward. "In the book's it's just energy shaped by Wizard's and controlled into what they want it to be" Selena gives a soft hum. "Indeed, but it wasn't always so"

The Bushy haired girl swallowed, a little more aware of the thing's around her, the enchanted ceiling that was watching her, the talking of other students, the shadow and the lights doing there twisted dance and took a deep breath. "Who wrote it?" she break's the tension and Selena smile's eerily her gaze as if passing trough Hermione and looking at something akin to an old companion. "Someone who knows Magic, remembers and who too knew..."

With that there conversation broke of as Selena was done with her Breakfast, when she had finished only Magic may know but she did. With a wave Selena disapeared trough the door of the Great Hall and if you took a moment you would notice her schoolbag disappearing where Selena had left it sitting on the bench next to her.

Outside the Great Hall Selena stilled as if listening to something, her movement breaking from there smooth way just for a moment as she turn's to a Collum, then as if nothing happened she glided towards it, steps light and silent as she disapeared behind it. Wich each step she took down the path behind the Collum the castle grew quiter, not empty, but Attentive.

The Air around Selena changed, the sun disapeared as she stepped into a path that was dark, spiderwebs covered thew corners, some lose bricks laid on the floor and the air was just a bit colder then before. But despite that, Torched lit the way as if the path was used on a regular way, it's flame illuminating the way till Selena reached the next one and the game began anew. The Hallway tightened, it got smaller and smaller until Selena could not take a step further, the wall beside her changed the magic of the castle twisting and breathing in the stone, changing them to wood as a knob-less door appeared.

Selena give's a thankful nod, her hand brushing on the door and she pushes it open, it creak's and protest with hinges it did not posses, Selena pushes forward the door heavy as she finally pushed it wide enough to get out and once she was the door creaked and closed itself melting back into stone as if it was never there before. Now there Selena stood her bag over her shoulder and a door that is not there behind her in front of the entrance of the Transfiguration Classroom, its door open with a cat on the desk that was watching Selena.
