Chapter 87: Mission Completed
"Is that even possible?"
The bartender, a young blond man, stared wide-eyed as his unattainable goddess walked away nestled in another man's arms.
Later, this bartender adopted that line about seeing the sights of Paris as his secret to picking up women, but on his first attempt, he happened to encounter a woman whose family had perished in the attack and was nearly beaten to death on the spot.
Mason helped Scarlett leave the Louis Bar. He hesitated before opening the door. "We're not going to get shot at again when we leave, are we?"
Scarlett smiled. "We've already caught the shooter. He was one of McCullen's operatives. It turns out the General's death really had nothing to do with you."
"Could you tell me the whole story in detail?" Scarlett tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Without you, we probably wouldn't have been able to take down McCullen's criminal organization so quickly. We all owe you for that."
Mason shook his head. "There are some things you're better off not knowing. I came to you this time because I need your help."
"I've captured Dr. Rex, the creator of the nanotech warheads. I need you to take me to the detention facility with him."
"In fact, Rex is the true mastermind behind McCullen's organization. With his nanotechnology, he could easily build a vast criminal empire!"
"McCullen thought he was in control, but in reality, he was just Rex's financier."
Scarlett looked surprised. "No wonder we didn't find any nanotechnology data at the Arctic base—it seems they were all destroyed beforehand."
Mason nodded. "Rex is extremely dangerous. He modified himself, making him far stronger than ordinary people. It took me considerable effort to capture him."
"So I can only feel secure after personally delivering him to prison."
"Mason, I trust you."
"If it weren't for you, Washington D.C. and Moscow would probably be destroyed by now. By the way, do you know where the last warhead went?"
Mason shook his head. "Maybe Ana or Storm Shadow took it."
In truth, the last warhead had never left the aircraft Mason and his group were on. Storm Shadow had concealed the warhead, and after learning about Zartan's whereabouts, he'd left the Arctic base on that aircraft, taking the nanotech warhead with him.
The best place to hide something is in plain sight.
McCullen hadn't anticipated Storm Shadow's betrayal, nor had he expected that Mason would hide the warhead right under his nose, giving Mason the perfect opportunity.
"It seems G.I. Joe will have to issue a worldwide warrant for Ana and Storm Shadow's arrest," Scarlett sighed.
She then looked at Mason tenderly. "Now that we've finished business, shouldn't you keep your promise and show me around Paris?"
Scarlett had been drinking at the bar, and under the streetlights, a blush colored her fair face, her eyes like deep pools, captivating anyone who looked at them.
Mason's fingertips traced Scarlett's cheek. "In my eyes, a hundred Parises can't compare to you." He then gently kissed her.
On the streets of Paris, they kissed passionately like any ordinary couple.
On the aircraft bound for the Pacific...
Scarlett handed Mason a G.I. Joe tactical uniform. "Put this on—I'll get you inside."
"I'm curious, how did you explain to the others that you captured the COBRA Commander?" Mason asked as he donned the gear.
The uniform covered him from head to toe, leaving only his eyes exposed. Even the most observant person would find it difficult to recognize Mason by his eyes alone.
Scarlett smiled. "Don't you know women are the best at deception? Especially a beautiful woman like me."
The passion with Mason had released Scarlett's pent-up emotions from the past few days, and her mood had brightened considerably. She surprisingly didn't show her usual serious, academic demeanor.
"The team will be there soon. Stay quiet and speak as little as possible," Scarlett instructed.
Mason nodded. At that moment, the aircraft received landing clearance and touched down on the carrier.
Mason pushed a metal container taller than a man, following behind Scarlett as they quickly reached the depths of the carrier.
This so-called underwater prison had dozens of security checkpoints, each manned by at least six fully armed personnel. Any disturbance on any level would instantly lock down all the checkpoints.
Unless someone had the power to sink the entire aircraft carrier, escaping this prison was virtually impossible.
After passing through six or seven security procedures, the two finally reached the prison's interior, beyond which lay areas accessible only to prisoners.
"Bring him out!"
Scarlett whispered. Mason opened the metal container, revealing a transparent containment unit inside. Upon seeing this, everyone looked at Scarlett with apprehension.
"Uh... Scarlett, what did you do to him?"
Ripcord's face darkened. He'd always harbored feelings for Scarlett and was making his best efforts to win her over, but seeing what was in the container, he felt he should reconsider his approach.
Floating within the container was a bald figure. The baldness wasn't just on the head—all four limbs had been severed, leaving only the torso, making him look utterly pitiful.
"It really is Rex!" Duke exclaimed.
"How could he do this!"
If it weren't for Rex, Duke and Ana would have been married four years ago...
"Brother, it's all in the past. We'll find Ana," Ripcord comforted him.
As Mason delivered Rex to prison, a notification flashed through his interface. He checked his display, which clearly showed:

Mason closed his interface and quietly slipped away while the other G.I. Joe members comforted Duke. When Scarlett came to her senses, she couldn't find Mason anywhere.
Was he a hero or a villain? Scarlett couldn't tell, but she knew this man would leave a deep impression on her heart.
When Mason reappeared, he was already at a secret facility.
"Has all the equipment been relocated?"
Storm Shadow nodded, supervising personnel as they assembled the equipment. "To be honest, I really can't figure you out. I thought you'd become the next COBRA Commander."
"But you chose to freeze yourself at the critical moment!"
Mason looked at Storm Shadow and revealed a mysterious smile. "This world is too mundane. I'll come back when things get more interesting!" With that, he slowly reclined in the cryogenic pod.
"Begin!"
As he gave the command, he activated his interface and submitted the mission.
