Luelle's heart was pounding in her chest…thump…thump…this particular night was quite cold as it had just been raining heavily hours prior, however Luelle's body felt scorching hot all over from the fear and adrenaline surging in her. Her brother's words were ringing in her ears…loud…too loud… it felt almost deafening: "RUN LUELLE! DON'T LOOK BACK JUST RUN!!!" It kept repeating over and over again in her mind as she was running; the ground beneath her bare feet was creating a sloshing sound as was running, her feet and white frilly nightgown were covered in wet mud, her tears now dried; however her green emerald eyes remained bloodshot red.
Her long long straight black hair kept getting caught in the branches making her gasp out a grunt each time she was panting…her feet slowly slowing down. Luelle knew it was a matter of time before she would have to stop running. She finally stopped running as she reached a clear ending, the moonlight shining down right bellow, she stepped closer to the edge and glanced back…it was only a second however just then the mushy wet ground beneath her gave out making her screech loudly; she tried grabbing onto anything as she was falling, branches and thorns tearing at her gown and skin.
Luelle landed on the ground below with a loud thump…her arms and legs had scratches all over and her forehead had a wound that was gushing with blood…she was tired…tired of running…tired of everything that she just slowly closed her eyes making no attempt to get up. Luelle didn't know how long had passed when her eyes snapped open at the sound of a branch snapping behind her and footsteps stopping a few feet away from her body. A voice she recognized rang out, raspy out of breath " Princess Luelle Feywin….".
The history of the Frostvale Peaks kingdom starts millions of years ago tracing back to the first magic user. Elves weren't originally gifted with magic…they had no special abilities besides skills in battle and their spiritual faith. That worked out fine until a natural disaster wrecked the other side of the realm, the territory the goblins inhabited was destroyed and with it, their resources. The goblins seeked resources from the elves by force which led to a battle breaking out between goblins and elves. The elves were being killed one after another; pretty soon they would all be wiped out. Seeing as they were losing the battle;they chose to channel their last hope onto their faith pleading to their sacred tree, And at last they were heard, the sacred tree granted the most skilled elf warrior with magic abilities. He was granted light magic, This helped turn the battle around and the elves succeeded in winning the battle. The few goblins who survived fled-never to be seen again. After the success of the battle, the elf with light magic helped greatly by reconstructing the kingdom of Frostvale into the most secured kingdom of all the realm, it surpassed others in: resources, beauty, devotional faith, and skillful warriors. Now all elves gifted with magical abilities can be traced back to him, all abilities of all sorts but no elf has ever been gifted with light magic besides the first.
"He single handily killed 20,000 goblins and-" Luelle's quiet voice cut him off
"So he's our ancestor, right brother?" she twirled a leaf from the sacred tree in her hand, as she stared at it.
"He is, he's the very first king; the curious thing is that his name was never recorded ... .or so they say but it simply doesn't make sense " Terry seemed to ponder for a second before looking over at Luelle.
Luelle was staring quite intensely out the balcony at the sacred tree, it was a peculiar tree that stood in the middle of the kingdom, so tall it could be seen from miles and miles away. It was a purple crystallized tree with crystal like leaves that were so shiny it was quite an ethereal hypnotic sight.
Terry's voice pulled Luelle out from her thoughts "Listen Luelle I know what you're thinking, but don't dwell too much on it your powers will appear soon enough"
"Brother, you got your powers when you were 8…. I'm already 13…maybe I'm just not gifted" she grumbled quietly but before Terry could say anything else, she put the leaf aside on the inside of a book and clapped her hands.
"Let's go eat dinner, Father will be waiting" she smiled and turned to walk away before Terry could say anything
During dinner Luelle sat beside Terry as their father sat at the head of the table, their Father was someone who could send chills down someone's spine just by his stern stare alone, he had long black hair and blue icy eyes that was sometimes hard to read. Luelle and Terry inherited their features and green emerald eyes from their deceased Mother. It was said she was considered one of the most beautiful elves in all of the realm, she had been a princess of the neighboring elf kingdom Gardenia glades; her smile alone could charm anyone who glanced her way, she had a way at winning people over…she was not only beautiful on the outside but also on the inside….Luelle's Mother had died after giving birth to her, an elf doctor tried everything he could; using healing magic but nothing could be done. Contrary to what most would think, the king, her father did not blame her for his wife's death.
After dinner Luelle headed to her chambers, on her way there she saw her nanny. Her nanny was an elderly elf of about 12,000 years; she had been her mother's nanny and her Mother had brought her over when she married. Her nanny was named Eirdis, she had short brown hair and hazel eyes. "Nanny…" Luelle exclaimed.
"Luelle sweetheart, heading to bed?" Eirdis asked softly to which Luelle nodded "yes nanny, don't worry I'll be okay…the nightmares about my mother have been less frequent lately" Luelle turned to keep walking but then turned back and hugged Eirdis "nanny can you do my hair in the morning? I don't want the maid to do it, I want you to do it " To which Eirdis smiled and nodded.
Once in her chambers, Luelle changed out of her light blue gown and into a frilly white nightgown, before falling asleep she laid in bed and fiddled with her gold heart shaped locket, her locket had a small green gem on the outside and inside was a portrait of her mother, smiling as the sun shined down on her silver hair. At some point Luelle jolted awake "shh… don't make a sound, just follow me okay…?" Terry's voice was hushed and he looked panicked "Brother?…." Luelle's voice was barely a whisper. Terry pulled Luelle up by her hand, walking out of the room quietly and Luelle's eyes widened at the sight, 2 intruders dead outside of the hall ... .as well as one of her injured guards, his wound looked deep…blood gushing out of his abdomen. "We have to hel-" Terry cut her off. "We don't have time for that Lue, we need to get out of here" Terry insisted as he pulled Luelle harshly by her hand.
Terry's sword was gripped tightly in his right hand as he led Luelle, when making a turn around the hall; Terry paused and turned to look at Luelle "Cover your eyes, Luelle" Terry's voice was sharp and commanding, however Luelle managed to look behind him and her whole body froze…. It was Eirdis…oh no…. Eirdis…she had surely intended on heading to Luelle's room. To protect her but she didn't manage to make it far, she had a deep wound on her neck and she lay still on the floor. Luelle's eyes welled up with tears, Eirdis was a like Mother to her, she had always been there for her. Luelle's breath hitched as Terry gripped her shoulder and shielded her from the view, pulling her away though Terry's eyes were also watering.
The whole castle rumbled and shook, the sound of magic could be heard as well as screams and the metallic sounds from swords clashing. "Terry…Terry we have to find Father" Luelle urged however Terry didn't respond and just kept pulling her "Terry" Luelle pressed… but the next second Terry covered her mouth with his hand and hid behind a corner. A couple of intruders were walking close by but they went the other way. "Listen Lue…Father….he….he'll be okay, let's focus on getting out of here first" Terry's voice was shaky as he spoke quietly.
Terry managed to get Luelle out through a door, there were dead bodies everywhere…several of the castle guards dead on the ground, several of their throats cut opened . Terry spoke up "we need to leave, we'll head towards the woods. I'll think of something on the wa-" Terry was abruptly cut off as a beam of magic hit his arm tearing off flesh, making him shriek in pain. A couple of intruders were closing in on Terry and Luelle. One of them used some sort of plant magic that was about to strike Luelle' neck before Terry protected her by making a magical shield appear. "Luelle, run!" Terry's urgent voice was loud as Luelle was hesitant to move, her body going rigid. "RUN LUELLE! , DON'T LOOK BACK JUST RUN!!!" Terry's voice sounded louder and more urgent, that's when Luelle finally took off running in the direction of the woods, more tears welling up in her eyes as she could hear the sounds of swords clashing and the sound of magic.
