'Isn't this core knowledge of the Order of Blue Fire?' Anser frowned slightly, feeling that things had become somewhat complicated.
He picked up the spellbook and carefully flipped through it, discovering that it recorded in detail every aspect of transitioning into a Spellscar Sorcerer.
From material extraction, potion refinement, magical ink, and magical tattoos, to ritual circles, bloodline development, and spell mastery—it covered everything, thorough and precise.
Moreover, this was not an early experimental version. The class system was relatively mature. The side effects were still present, but they were no longer fatal.
'Did the star fiend steal this, or did he also join the Order of Blue Fire?' Anser's mind filled with questions.
He had once assumed that the star fiend's ambush against him had been a coincidence. Now, it seemed that the star fiend had been deliberately selecting suitable targets.
If the star fiend hadn't been unable to call out his name, Anser would have thought the Order of Blue Fire had set their sights on him.
He flipped to the page on magical tattoos. The most important primary material was the blood of "bloodline creatures"—a broad category that included Sorcerers, dragons, fey, and fiends.
Among them, compatibility was highest with the same bloodline, followed by dragons.
'The star fiend's race is a fiend…' he wondered, puzzled. 'Could it be that he's already used the potion?'
He had too little information to reconstruct the full sequence of events, but he didn't dwell on it. Instead, he stored the spellbook in his Avaricious Dragonhide Pouch, unwilling to let anyone else see it.
This thing was extremely unfavorable to Sorcerers. Only a fool would spread it around.
He himself had no intention of taking on this half-finished class either. A Spellscar Sorcerer was far inferior to a true Spellfire Sorcerer, and its upper limit was likely not very high.
Still, this spellbook was highly valuable. It contained refined knowledge of magical tattoos, along with several tattoo templates—extremely practical.
After all, magical tattoos were the core component of the class transition ritual. There was absolutely no room for error.
Among them, the "Spellwrought Tattoo" was particularly versatile. It allowed a spell of up to 5th level to be inscribed onto the skin in tattoo form, to be activated directly when needed, without requiring material components.
Once the spell ended, the tattoo would disappear from the skin—it was a one-time consumable.
This method was not exclusive to Wizards. Other spellcasters could use it as well. Its essence was spell projection; the magical ink was merely the medium.
'Tattoo a Fireball onto everyone?' Anser immediately thought of numerous applications.
Magical tattoos could not only enhance the strength of his subordinates, but also be sold externally. Who wouldn't want a life-saving trump card inscribed on their own body?
He planned to experiment with it when he had time. If the cost wasn't too high, it could be widely implemented.
Aside from these books, there were only a few finely crafted tarot cards in the captain's cabin—nothing else.
Anser searched through the books and indeed found one titled Visconti Astrology, compiled by a divination wizard named Visconti.
The book contained basic usage techniques for various divination tools—fairly introductory.
'Perfect for learning.' He stored both the book and the tarot cards in his Dragonhide Pouch for easy access.
On the outer side of the captain's cabin was a circular porthole nearly one meter in diameter. It couldn't be opened, but through the clear magical crystal, he could see the distant horizon and the calm waters of the Sea of Fallen Stars.
'This spot is nice.'
He used Prestidigitation to clean the bedding, then sat by the crystal window, letting his mind sink inward.
On the silver die, the ninth symbol had already lit up more than halfway. It seemed that moving around more really was the way to go.
He opened his character sheet. The experience pool had reached 7,136—over six thousand points gained from the previous battle, most of it coming from the Minotaur.
That pirate captain had been a clever Minotaur. If they had truly fought, his dragonfly ship likely wouldn't have survived—but not a single one of those pirates would have made it back alive.
That was also why the priority of Fly was higher than Fireball.
This amount of experience was still far from enough for a Sorcerer level-up. After a brief moment of consideration, he decided to raise his Paladin level first.
He clicked on the Paladin tab, and a level-up prompt appeared:
[Do you want to level up?]
"Yes!"
The experience in the pool rapidly drained, leaving only 3,536 in the end.
[Level Up: Paladin Lv.4!]
[You have learned a new feat. You may learn one evocation spell.]
The improvement at level 4 wasn't particularly large—there were no new class features.
For the new feat, he prioritized strengthening Strength. After filtering his options, he selected Shield Master.
...
[Shield Master]: General Feat
Prerequisite: Proficiency with Shields
You gain the following benefits:
Ability Score Increase: Your Strength increases by +1, up to a maximum of 20.
Shield Bash: You are highly proficient in the use of shields. When making a melee attack, you can skillfully use your shield to deliver a charged strike, forcing the target to make a Strength saving throw. On a failure, the target is either pushed back or knocked prone.
Shield Interposition: Harming a Shield Master is no easy task.
When you are subjected to an effect that requires a Dexterity saving throw, if you succeed, you can use your reaction to take no remaining damage by using your shield.
...
This feat elevated his shield usage to a master level. Even if engaged in close combat by martial classes, he could rely on blocking, deflection, and similar techniques to stay alive.
If he were hit by spells like Burning Hands, Dragon's Breath, or Fireball—effects that required Dexterity saving throws—as long as he avoided the center of the blast, he could use his shield to block the shockwave and the spreading magical damage. It was extremely effective.
Coincidentally, Anser already had a legendary shield in his possession. With this class feat, he could maximize its value.
"Arcane Resonance" also granted him an evocation spell, but still only a 1st-level one, since a 5th-level Paladin was required to access 2nd-level spells.
However, he had already mastered most 1st-level evocation spells. After a quick selection, he chose Witch Bolt.
This was a concentration-based sustained attack spell. It fired a spear of blue energy crackling with fractured magic at a creature within range, and created a persistent arc of lightning between the caster and the target.
On the initial hit, it dealt 2d12 (2–24) lightning damage. After that, it could continuously "shock" the target, dealing 1d12 lightning damage each time, until the target left the spell's range.
This was a single-target attack spell. Once it latched on, the lightning arc allowed for continuous strikes—extremely useful in one-on-one combat.
[Feat: Shield Master, Innate Magic: Witch Bolt. Confirm?]
"Confirm!"
In the next moment, a vast surge of elemental power descended out of thin air along his elemental oath, swirling endlessly around him like rings of radiant rainbow light.
Time passed quietly. A quarter of an hour went by in no time.
The brilliant, multicolored glow that filled the captain's cabin gradually contracted, merging into Anser's skin until it became imperceptible.
Anser opened his eyes, took out Euryale's Aegis, and gave it a casual swing. A faint layer of platinum-white radiance clung to its surface and edges, giving it an unbreakable impression.
'Not bad.'
He had to admit—multiclassing before level 4 had an incredibly high cost-performance ratio. With just a few thousand experience points, he had gained two feats and a whole set of powerful features.
