Chapter 14 - My Good Luck

"How was it, Elian?"

I gave Teacher Xiu an OK gesture.

"I should be fine with these two tests today. Don't worry, Teacher Xiu."

"Don't be arrogant. Keep working hard tomorrow—final rankings depend on total scores."

It was a quiet night.

The next day, we arrived at the academy at the same time. The third test was on magic control. The specific method varied by the candidate's major. For fire-type candidates, the test was very simple: use the most basic Fireball magic, then control the magic to follow a specified route to the finish line without exploding. Scores were based on completion time. The other elements were similar.

What would the light-type test be? Teacher Xiu had said that since no one had majored in light-type for several batches, he didn't know what to expect. It seemed fate would decide.

Since I was the only light-type major, I went directly to my test venue—Venue 5 on the right side of the academy. Wow, I was taking the test alone, but there were actually 5 invigilators. This was too exaggerated!

"Hello, respected invigilators."

"Hello, Candidate 1503. Since no one has studied light-type magic in recent years and you're the only one this batch, the academy's examination team has decided to set a new test method for you." The teacher sitting in the middle said.

Ah! No way—"special treatment"? I fainted.

"What do I need to do, teacher?"

The invigilators looked at each other, and the teacher in the middle smiled mysteriously at me. "It's actually very simple. We heard you created a defensive magic in yesterday's magic comprehension test. Today, the five of us want to try it out. You just need to hold on under our continuous primary magic attacks for 30 minutes to pass. We will score your magic control based on your defense."

That's great—this was my specialty. But to be cautious, I asked tentatively: "Only primary magic attacks? Can I use my secondary magic?"

"Don't worry, only primary magic. But I must remind you—our primary magic attacks are not weak, so be careful. You can use secondary magic. Alright, let's start."

I immediately gathered elements, cast Light Prism Shield, then added Holy Protection to myself, and got ready to use instant teleportation at any time. (Primary magic has no all-around spells—this was a big advantage for me.)

The five invigilators launched their attacks.

The exam ended, and of course, I was unharmed—and I barely used the Light Prism Shield. It was too easy, much simpler than the burlap sack formation. Although the five invigilators' primary attack magic was like a rain of arrows, there were still many gaps. Haha, it was a piece of cake.

"Teacher, did I pass?"

The five teachers looked at each other and helplessly announced: "Passed."

"Young man, why do I feel like your major is spatial magic!"

I scratched my head awkwardly and said: "Sorry, teachers. When I was in the primary magic academy, my mentor evaluated me as having first-class escape skills, second-class defense, third-class healing magic, and bottom-tier attack. So..."

"Candidate 1503, no need to be embarrassed. Actually, when confronting each other with magic, being able to escape the opponent's attacks is very important—even more so when mages fight warriors. Warriors usually don't give mages time to chant incantations. If you can maintain a safe distance first before casting magic to your advantage, your chances of winning are much higher. So never be ashamed of this—keep working hard."

Wow, I didn't expect escaping had so many benefits. From now on, these words would be my motto. Haha.

"Thank you, teachers." I bowed sincerely to all the invigilators present.

Walking out of the test venue, I couldn't help thinking—my luck was really extraordinary. Since I had nothing to do, I wandered around. Teacher Xiu had said that after the first three tests, the top 500 candidates based on comprehensive scores would proceed to the fourth test. In other words, results would be announced tomorrow, and the final test would be held the day after. I wasn't in a hurry to go back—if I did, Teacher Xiu would start nagging again.

I came to the outside of the fire-type test venue. Looking back inadvertently, I saw a red-haired male candidate around my age sitting in the corner. He looked very depressed. I walked over.

"Hey! What's wrong? Did you not do well in the exam?"

"Worse than that! I did too well." A pleasant childish voice replied.

"Why?"

"My teacher told me not to do too well—just enough to get admitted. Otherwise, after enrolling, many people will challenge me, and I won't have time to practice magic."

"Wow, your teacher is even more perverted than mine. My teacher is only perverted during training, but yours doesn't even let you do your best during the exam. I'm impressed."

"Don't say that about my teacher. He's doing it for my own good." He was really considerate of others! (Author's note: Not everyone is as lazy, greedy, and slippery as you—he's a good student. "I, I, I...")

"Never mind that. How well did you do exactly?"

"I originally just wanted to get a mid-to-upper rank, but seeing a few candidates doing really well, I got itchy hands and gave it my all. In the end, I was 10 seconds faster than the fastest among them."

"How many seconds did you take?"

"6 seconds." Wow, this guy was a genius just like me.

"I didn't expect you to be so powerful! Hello, let's formally introduce ourselves. I'm Elian Rayner, majoring in light-type magic and minoring in spatial magic." I held out my hand to him.

He quickly stood up and shook my hand. "Hello, I'm Mark Sedd, majoring in fire-type magic and minoring in wind-type magic."

"Can we be friends?"

"Sure! Then we'll be friends from now on."

Two childish voices decided a lifelong friendship.
