Chapter 4 - Encounter

"Breaking news! There have been reports of people biting people across the country, suspected to be due to a virus.

Local troops are working to contain the situation. Infected individuals have pale skin and pupils, their movements vary in speed, but they possess great strength and are extremely aggressive, indiscriminately attacking anyone nearby.

Those bitten will also undergo a transformation within a short period of time. All residents are urged to remain indoors and take precautions…"

The voice on the broadcast was filled with fear and despair.

The school's broadcast system was controlled by the main station, so the survivors naturally heard the message.

"A virus?"

Ye Xin frowned. So many people had already died, and they still wanted to suppress the situation. What were they thinking?

The campus supermarket was a bit of a distance from his fourth teaching building. He would need to pass the first three buildings, cross a bridge, and then reach the cafeteria, where the large supermarket was located on the second floor.

Getting down the stairs wasn't easy. Many Zombies blocked the way at the intersections, so they had to force their way through with brute force. They also rescued a few students from the neighboring class.

"I only called for Lao Zhu. What are you all doing following me?"

Ye Xin turned around, staring coldly at the group of people behind him as he heard the sound of footsteps.

"Ye Zi, I told them to follow. They want to leave for a safe place too."

They had been classmates for several years, and with Lao Wang playing the emotional card, Xu Chu couldn't bring himself to refuse.

"Classmates, in the face of disaster, we should help each other."

"The police and military will send people to save us. Since you have weapons, can't you give us a ride?"

"Yeah, yeah..." The others chimed in.

"Haha…you can read web novels without thinking, but can you guys try thinking when you talk?" Ye Xin was both amused and annoyed.

Is there a future after the collapse of order?

The local government can barely take care of themselves, and they're going to send people to rescue you?

So many idiots.

"What's so funny? Kid, I'll give you a hundred thousand for protection, and take me out of here. I'll give you a million more later."

The person speaking had a round, plump face and was wearing expensive clothes, swaggering over.

Dong Zhu pulled out a card. This was his father's allowance, worth at least tens of thousands.

As he handed it over, he looked at Ye Xin's ordinary clothes with disdain.

He dared to swagger around only because he had a sword in his hand.

But it's only useful now. Once order is restored, he'll still be a nobody.

After thinking this, Dong Zhu sneered, confidently extending a card: "There's a hundred thousand in the card. Take it first. I bet you, a nobody, have never seen so much..."

Before he could finish the word, money, a stream of blood suddenly splattered onto his face.

Following that, a sharp pain shot through his arm. Dong Zhu realized his right hand had been chopped off. He quickly covered the wound with his left hand, trying to stop the bleeding and pain, even rolling on the ground.

"Ah... my hand... my hand... ahh..."

"Idiot!" Even more annoying than Lao Zhu, Ye Xin wished he could just kill him on the spot, but this guy still had some use.

His screams attracted many Zombies nearby, giving them some time to escape.

"Ye Zi, the Zombies are swarming us, we need to get out of here!" Xu Chu shouted.

"Ye Xin, as the homeroom teacher, I know this is a bit of a moral burden, but I implore you, take us away from here. We still have families, we can't just die here..."

"Xin-ge, considering our past as classmates, please take us with you. From now on, Liu Hao and Biao Zi will follow your lead."

"Yes! We won't cause any trouble, we'll just follow behind you."

The others chimed in, intimidated by Dong Zhu's fate. Ye Xin had naturally become their core.

"Family..." Ye Xin murmured to himself.

In his past life, he was an orphan with no family. In this life, he didn't have much affection for his relatives either, except for Xu Chu's parents, who treated him well.

After pondering, he turned his back and said, "The supermarket on the second floor of the cafeteria. Follow if you want, I don't care about your lives."

With Ye Xin leading the way, the group followed closely behind, quickly joining the tail end of the main group of survivors.

Some people even thought Ye Xin was very strong and deliberately walked beside him.

To avoid being affected, Ye Xin swung his sword, lopping off a man's leg to buy time for those escaping.

After this display, they realized this "god of death" was just as dangerous as the Zombies, so they obediently followed behind, hoping he would run faster.

Zombies weren't strong; ordinary people could easily fight back with weapons, and the situation would be quickly brought under control.

Of course, Ye Xin knew the disaster wouldn't end so easily; the cracks in the sky were constantly expanding.

The sky was faintly turning crimson. It was only nine in the morning, and the chaos had been going on for less than half an hour.

Ye Xin turned and glanced back. The remaining few boys were using wooden stools as weapons, fighting off the Zombies to protect the girls, their silhouettes outlined in the dim red light.

He sped up, wondering what other changes might be coming.

Arriving nearby, Ye Xin saw people on the other side of the bridge, about eight of them. Six were in black suits, but the sunset made them look blood-red.

He was shocked to see that the six were in a circle, as if protecting someone important inside.

They were all highly skilled, and even surrounded by Zombies, it was hard for them to get close. One of them had something like flames in their hand, which didn't look like a lighter. A lighter's flame couldn't be this big.

"Su Wu, look for that thing…"

The voice sounded like a clear, sweet female voice.

A guy named Su Wu nodded and without hesitation, pulled out a sharp dagger. He knelt down skillfully, sliced open a Zombie's skull, and began digging around inside.

At the same time, the Zombies, who looked like students, staggered toward Su Wu.

Just as the situation was critical, Su Wu's companion kicked out with a powerful blow, striking the foremost Zombie. The force of the kick sent it flying, knocking down several other Zombies following behind.

Seeing the scene unfold, this person wore a smug grin, casually shaking his hand before plunging into the horde.

As he charged into the Zombies, he turned his head and asked, "Miss, if we meet other survivors, should we keep them?"

The Miss, standing not far away, replied without expression, "Do as you wish!"

Her tone was indifferent, as if she didn't care about such matters, but her eyes revealed a coldness and ruthlessness.

Su Momo's only goal on this trip was to obtain the Primal Seed Core.

As for the survival of humanity, she didn't care, as long as it didn't endanger those around her.

"Alright, first transformation skill, Werewolf Form!" Su San roared, his body hair instantly growing wildly, his nails hardening into claws, and his ears becoming sharp and pointed.

"Awoo–"

After the wolf-like roar, he vanished in a leap!
