Chapter 167 - Chapter 167: Old Acquaintance

"Cough... cough..." Zeke weakly lowered his head, blood seeping from the corner of his mouth. Looking at Zeke in his current state, the only way to describe it was absolutely awful—his whole body was smeared with blood, faint steam rising from him, both his hands and feet all having been taken by the Ackermans.....

Seeing Zeke in such a miserable state, Yago felt a slight chill in his heart.

After greeting Hitch and Marlo, Yago walked toward Zeke.

"Hey, Warrior Captain Zeke, we really should find some time to have a proper talk," Yago said as he squatted beside Zeke.

Zeke raised his head with difficulty, forced a faint smile, and said,

"Talk? Cough cough, what's there to talk about? What, cough, do you want to seize our Titan power?" Zeke's voice sounded extremely weak.

Yago replied speechlessly, "Seize it? Wasn't it Marley who first wanted to take the Founding Titan from Paradis Island?"

Zeke froze. "How do you know? Oh, you're cough cough, from Annie's memories? How str—cough cough cough—strange. The Female Titan's power actually reaching its greatest potential in a man."

Even now, Zeke still believed that Yago had taken Annie's Female Titan power.

But Yago stared into Zeke's eyes and calmly said, "Euthanasia!"

Before the words had even faded, the previously listless Zeke suddenly snapped his head up, his gaze terrifyingly cold. He almost growled as he asked,

"What do you mean?!"

Yago curved his lips into a faint smile and answered,

"You know it, Warrior Captain Zeke. Isn't that your objective?"

Zeke was truly shocked—and enraged. He never imagined that the plan he had buried deep in his heart would be so easily spoken by a soldier from Paradis Island.

"Impossible! How could you know? Annie? No! That's impossible!"

Yago turned his head and said,

"So, Warrior Captain Zeke, I believe you'd be willing to talk with me. After all, our goals seem rather similar."

The exchange left several Ackermans nearby utterly bewildered. What were they talking about? No idea. It just sounded incredibly impressive.

Zeke suddenly calmed down. After staring at Yago's back for a while, he abruptly said something inexplicable,

"Outside your walls, heading straight west, there's a withered forest. At the end of the forest stands a very strange stone—its top is more than ten meters thick, yet its base is only three meters. Quite a spectacle."

Yago said, "Warrior Captain Zeke, what are you talking about?"

Zeke smiled slightly and said, "Nothing. Just that scenes like that—people inside your walls probably haven't seen anything like it in their entire lives, have they?"

"We will see it someday!" a powerful voice rang out from behind.

...

Commander Erwin, his face still stained with blood, arrived with the remaining Survey Corps. In the distance, countless Titan corpses lay scattered and evaporating. The Survey Corps' losses were minimal, thanks entirely to the Thunder Spear invented by Hange, such a formidable weapon.

Before, soldiers had to get close and cut the nape to kill Titans. Now, they only needed to drive a Thunder Spear near the Titan's nape—the tremendous explosive power was enough to destroy them.

"Commander," Yago greeted Erwin, who nodded in response.

Thud. "Ouch!" A cry of pain rang out as Pieck, her arms severed, was tossed in front of Yago by A-One.

"Pieck-chan? We meet again. I'm really sorry—last time you managed to escape, so this time I had no choice but to have A-One and the others cut off your arms," Yago said with exaggerated apology, utterly affected.

Pieck ground her teeth. So it was your idea?

"Heh." She let out a cold laugh and turned her head away, unwilling to say anything.

After instructing that the Marleyan warriors be securely imprisoned, Yago hurried toward the rear. He still needed to rendezvous with Annie.

Borrowing a warhorse and mounting it, Yago's gaze became somewhat unfocused as he pondered. Cooperation with Zeke was necessary. Without Zeke acting as an intermediary, Paradis Island simply couldn't cross the vast oceans to connect with the outside world.

However, Reiner, Pieck, and the imprisoned Bertholdt—Yago had no intention of letting these Titan powers go. Paradis Island was still too weak; it needed these powers, even if it meant.....

But would things really unfold as Yago hoped? Could he keep these Titan powers? Some things were already destined by fate.

...

Still deep in thought, Yago suddenly jolted. His mind screamed warnings of danger. Without any hesitation, he immediately rolled off his horse.

Bang! A bullet grazed past Yago's hair.

A figure hidden behind rocks burst from cover, raised a rifle, worked the bolt, and pulled the trigger.

Bang! Bang! Two bullets shot toward Yago. He dodged at speed, barely evading them. His expression turned grim. Seizing the instant the attacker worked the bolt again, Yago suddenly surged forward.

His whole body shot out like an arrow.

Bang! He twisted sideways, dodging another shot. Yago unleashed a whipping kick— the rotating device bound to his leg spun wildly, the blades embedded in it flashing with cold light.

Crack! The blade chopped into the rifle's body, making it impossible for the attacker to hold on. The rifle flew from his grasp.

Both reacted quickly. Yago drew a blade from his waist, while the other pulled a handgun from his holster.

Buzz! The blade stopped just before the man's throat, the steel still trembling. The dark muzzle of the gun was aimed at Yago's forehead. Yet both stopped at the same time.

They stared at each other's familiar yet unfamiliar faces, frozen in shock.

"Koris... big brother?"

Koris held the handgun, his face full of astonishment. He never imagined he would see again the child he had once been forced to push into the abyss with his own hands.

"You are? Yago?"

As the two stood locked in place, a petite figure rushed to Yago's side.

A high kick sent the handgun flying from Koris's hand, followed by a spinning kick that knocked him to the ground.

Koris struggled to rise, but a blood-stained blade was already pressed to his throat. Annie turned her head anxiously.

"Yago, are you okay?"

Seeing Annie, Koris froze. Before this mission, he had reviewed the Marleyan warrior squad's files. The girl before him seemed to be the very same person as the Female Titan.

Koris gave a bitter smile and murmured, "Marley..."

(A/N: Everyone, take a guess—will the Marleyan warriors manage to escape this time? (^w^) Will Zeke obediently cooperate with the protagonist?)
